Please make solo slooping viable

  • I'm a long time player of the game and usually play solo sloop. It is ridiculous how unplayable solo slooping is in its current state.

Solo slooping is so restrictive to the point that if you have a SINGLE hole you cannot leave your ship to capitalize on pressure you create and it is nearly impossible to outmanoeuver an enemy vessel if they have two or more players on board.

It is a terrible idea to three man a galleon, or two man a brig but yet solo players are supposed to sail a sloop with no advantage against a sloop of two players.

Whether it comes in the form of a new ship, or some kind of ai companion to delegate simple tasks to (i.e. repairing) to relieve some of the pressure, I beg of you to PLEASE make solo slooping viable.

I love this game, especially it's pvp aspects but I can't see any rational reason why someone would opt to fight to defend their loot when they are at a disadvantage in every aspect of pvp combat.

    (fella solo sloop) Do tell...

Solo slooping is so restrictive to the point that if you have a SINGLE hole you cannot leave your ship to capitalize on pressure you create

Bucket is like 5 steps from any place on the ship, single hole isnt the death, its when you have 3 high tier holes that may struggle.

nearly impossible to outmanoeuver an enemy vessel if they have two or more players on board.

Sounds you need to learn the difference in ship sailing... Sloop into wind, always better deal.

yet solo players are supposed to sail a sloop with no advantage against a sloop of two players.

Well..technically..solo sloop shouldnt even be a thing, its the "Hard Mode/Extreme Mode" of SoT, its a choice. But it super doable.
Advantage, I have only myself to worry about, not someone else who could be doing something silly. Or nothing

Still, sounds to me you havnt yet grasp how to solo sail yet, keep at it and you find you have more tricks than most.

  • You cant leave any ship with 1 hole in it or it sinks. You choose to solo sloop, it is essentially hard mode. No one is forcing you to do so.
I solo sloop all the time, and yes it does make capatlizing difficult, especially in HG.
    But there it is.

I've got about 5k hours in SOT. Of which, probably 4k is solo. I love PvP. I love stacking loot and defending.

That said, solo slooping has become less and less manageable in the last couple years against larger crews.

Resurrecting. Shortened respawns. The "necessary change" to the Blunderbuss. The Harpoon Gun. Seemingly infinite pineapples. The mast buff on the sloop (which really just made fighting a duo worse and didn't in any way make being a solo better). The general degraded server performance costing a solo slooper precious seconds with every bug/lag/desync/etc.

I used to be opposed to solo sloop servers as an option.

These days, I'd be all for it as an option for matchmaking preference.

  • @WonderNoob65 It's not THAT hard. I solo took out a full crew galleon of super sweaty guys stacking eternal guards. If you don't think solo slooping is fair on PvP, just keep a black powder handy

  • @wondernoob65

At least half of my 2400 hours are solo. I played solo 99% of the time until somewhere along the way I got a crew.

I do change the way I play as a solo, I adjust to my capabilities. For example, if I’m a brig seeking to contest an event, we’ll probably just head directly towards their ship with intent. Whereas if I’m solo, I might be going on a lovely rowboat ride with a keg.

  • I pay solo.
It's hard but certainly not unviable.

I need to curtail my expectations of what I can achieve - especially with my poor TDM skills.
Ship to Ship PvP is generally avoided unless end of session, or I just want to YOLO for the giggles.
    Play sneaky. Rowboats or BBKs.

True, decisions have been made that are detrimental to the game as a whole - grappling gun boarding cheez in particular.

A change that would be appreciated to dial back the boarding meta : Traps are not damaged by splash damage from cannons fired etc.

I don't think there is any buffs that can be done to solo experience that can level the playing field - just need to play to the resulting limitations of the experience.

  • Choosing to SOLO just means you'd rather be solo than risk open crew. I respect that. But it IS a choice.

I've done heaps of solo, but it's not my first preference. If you'd rather play with others to avoid solo, there are guilds out there you might join.

FWIW, I still think the Harpoon-Gun was a mistake. Turning pirates into Batman might seem like fun, but it's made solo play a bit more challenging.
