Doubloon-Boost for Pop-Up Plunder in Season 19

  • Community Weekend is March 27th-30th

Since we're kissing the old Doubloon-system good bye, how about we give them one last hoorah through Pop-Up Plunder? Rare said Pop-Up Plunder is a chance for them to introduce loot into the world without breaking the economy.

Since the most valuable item (an ashen chest with 3 items that give 10 Doubloons) would feel underwhelming, how about using some of the planned Bilge Rat Weekender loot pieces and introducing them early for a higher payout? Or introducing some event deeds that give a good chunk of Doubloons for activities (like the announced cake hunt)?

This would help players achieve more of the commemorative items (though very likely not the cutlass). Those not attempting to get those could still spend it on Outpost-Items, Level-Letters from Larinna or Gold with boosted Community Weekend rates.

Since the Doubloon rate will be reset later anyways, I don't think it would matter too much if the Doubloon-Rewards for the weekend were more generous than usual. Think of it as something like the boosted spawn rate of Ancient Skeletons for the fifth Anniversary Community Weekend.

kind of defeats the point of those items being earned through gaining large quantities of doubloons through the existing system. Adding an inflated way to obtain them last second would invalidate any amount of doubloons people had prior. All items except the sword cost a mere 4,050 doubloons which is still a good year+ worth of doubloons for a player that plays consistently. Grab the title and call it a day imo. If they add popup plunder to give you like 500 doubloons that's a good months worth of grinding doubloons in an instance. If it gives you like 20 doubloons I imagine it wont be a good enough source of doubloons to make a meaningful difference in how many commemorative items people can obtain.

There's still plenty of good doubloon sources outside of exploits you can do right now, the grinds are best used to get to a threshold you are near, rather than trying to go higher. For example if you have 900 doubloons you may grind to get the 1,000 doubloon item, but I wouldn't then suggest attempting to go for the 2,500 item.

  • If they did this, the commemorative doubloon items would loose all meaning, which is the only reason they are being offered in the first place.

That's about 2 skeleton fleets as a Reaper, just saying. Let's not overexaggerate the lower tiers.

Pop-Up Plunder also has the "disadvantage" of the server getting notifications when it is dug up and being marked on the map, nerfing it in comparison to a regular ashen chest by automatically coming with a drastically increased risk of pvp.

  • No they shouldn't make changes. I say this as someone who only has 10k doubloons. I don't think I ever had 50k doubloons and I've been playing for I think 5 years now pretty consistently.

This is a reward for people who have been around since the beginning and have played enough to have that amount. I know personally maybe 3 people who have BARELY enough for everything.

Having a "one last hurrah" for people who are now FOMO is not a good idea.

This reeks of when Rare announced Arena was closing and so everyone and their mother started playing Arena again because FOMO. Sure was nice for those of us who were already doing arena, but people were whining that they were going to miss out because they never cared about it until oh no good boy set.

    Rare don't change a thing.

As mentioned in the first post, I'm clearly not talking about amounts that would allow people to achieve the Cutlass. Just to get a part towards one more item pre-reset, either commemorative or from the Outpost stores. I also never asked to make changes to the Doubloon reset or items, as you imply.

I am aware that adding too much would hurt the Gold economy in the end, as every surplus will be turned to Gold.
I'm talking about amounts and rarities that wouldn't exceed any other high-tier loot from Pop-Up Plunder. A Box of Wondrous Secrets for example is 62.5k with the full Weekend Multiplier (156k if you add Reaper emissary as well). It's a loot item most only know because it's regularly at Pop-Up Plunder. If we take current Larinna conversion rates, that would be ~300 Doubloons at the rate where you get the most gold per doubloon (10k Gold for 50). A Chest Of Fortune would still be 250 Doubloons, and most Pop-Up loot is usually around 12-20k Gold in base value.
In both cases, calculated without emissary bonus (as this special item also wouldn't get any additional boosts). So it should probably be less than that, and I don't see how that would be more game-breaking than other pop-up plunder.
Especially considering how in this case it would be comparable value and risk to a skeleton fleet (55-95 Doubloons multiplied by 2.5, depending on ashen chest contents).

500 doubloons in 2 skeleton fleets? you get like a few ritual skulls, ashen chests and keys. At most like 50-70 doubloons at grade 5. You can absolutely grind that to get more than 500 a month but I mean the average player that plays a good amount per month isnt gonna make more than 500 doubloons passively. As in just random doubloon earnings while doing normal stuff.

As mentioned in the first post, I'm clearly not talking about amounts that would allow people to achieve the Cutlass. Just to get a part towards one more item pre-reset, either commemorative or from the Outpost stores.

The total price of all the items except the sword is 4050 doubloons. If you think you get 500 doubloons from 2 skeleton fleets then just do 8 Skeleton Fleets, and therefore we don't need to do anything.

  • @frogfish12 45-95 (you can get up to two additional Doubloon items per chest, not just one). +10-30 more if you fish for an ashen key, though you might only do this if you did one and want the doubloons. It's inefficient if you do several or only do it passively. Which all gets multiplied by 2.5.

But that's besides the point. I already finished the grind for the commemorative items before the prices were even announced. And as said, I am aware the 50k aren't meant to be farmed for.

Edit: I guess Rare changed their mind on the latter too, lol
