New Hourglass Faction

  • Just a random thought, but it's about a passive faction, one were the player engages in skilled passive play. Using wit, charisma, perception , luck, and a variety of other skills to build up reputation with this faction.

With this faction direct PVP combat is discouraged, in hourglass your goal in this faction would be to sail to a pre selected port by the game and make it there before your opponent sinks you.

Along with this new achievements would be added.

Ex. "Blasting off again" Use Horn of Fair Winds to propel a certain number of non teammates off your ship.

"Pulling the Rug" Steal treasure a certain amount of times from other players without fighting back.

"I Get by with a Little Help from My Friends" An NPC enemy (Meg, Kraken, Skelly ship) intervenes and goes after another NPC enemy or player while in a certain vicinity of each other.

In return when a player gets the reputation needed, they'll be rewarded with a new cosmetic that adds wings (non flyable) to their character. If a player played passive they can receive angel wings and a halo, if they played passive aggressive they can receive devil wings and horns

  • So this would be a whole new thing, not connected to Hourglass...not even pvp.

  • @burnbacon Okay, I'll change the title to fit better after the post cooldown. Thank you for replying!

You essentially want to be rewarded for running. The game is designed to give you a fairly large chance in doing so successfully (opponents cannot easily shoot you while behind you and travelling in the same direction). There are no players in game that would think that chasing you is a worthwhile activity if you can just reach an endpoint and declare yourself a winner.

  • @rare-jumbie I was thinking its's more based on luck and skill. They would have to go to a certain location which would be a long ways away so it wouldn't be a simple head to the nearest post easy peasy, plus there are certain factors like number of players, weather, NPC encounters, and just like in regular Hourglass the player would be revealed on the map.

If I rise up to engage, and their sails are already dropped, I'm not going to catch them, even using the same ship type. Not even going to bring up the fact that this just encourages running, which has been a frustrating tactic many pvpers in Hourglass have had to contend with, leading the devs to create a shrinking circle.

Avoiding PvP by running away isn't the goal of hourglass lol.

  • What you want is already in the game. It's basically what happens when you acquire a Faction Stash and turn it in without getting dived on.

You have to sink another player when you get dived on, but I think that's fair, because otherwise the Runner would always have the easier exit. Which is why it's now a requirement that no ships are near Reaper's Hideout before the manned Burning Blade can be "sold"

    Or smugglers in HG.
