Reaper's Lvl 5 feels useless in it's current state

  • From my experiences in getting a reaper's emissary to max rank about 5 times, there aren't enough emissary ships remaining to make the emissary marking worth it. After sinking emissaries, they tend to not re-raise their flags, leaving the lvl 5 effect worthless in most situations.

  • @papesearch There's not much the dev's can do about that.

  • @papesearch only slightly relevant but they need to fix the logging off strategy so that the emissary flag doesn’t come up.

Also I think we should get emissary progress when attacking other ships. If they don’t have loot you get very little progress or have to attain loot yourself. It becomes sort of dead weight since it’s only the gold and only 1/4 of the progress.

  • @papesearch

It's true that other players tend to avoid you once you hit rank 5, but you can still use the grade 5 multiplier to turn in, well, everything to the reapers' hideout for 2.5X its regular value.

  • @kakashi-lord I'm personally on board with gaining rep for sinking ships or killing players, but there needs to be something implemented with that to prevent too much xp gain from grinding PvErs too hard.

Oh of course, definitely needs a balance.
It’s just annoying at time because we sank 3 ships and got their flags but we were sitting in emissary 2 still.

Honestly, they should just rework the map mechanic and ships appearing on the Emissary Board.

I would like to see something like a Skull Cloud or a set of Stars that indicates the Reaper's location and the other Emissaries to the Reaper once they are Grade V.
Could be anything that gives an indicator, but is not always visible. (Unlike the map table)

If the Reaper's Emissary continues to appear on the map like it does, and has the ability to track others, then the other Emissaries will just leave the lobby and find a new one because they don't want to be seen on the map.
In order to really catch people, in my experience, I have to go after them without a Reaper Flag up then throw up the Reaper Flag for a second so I get the Emissary Value towards the ledger, then take it back down before anyone in the lobby notices.

It creates all the wrong kind of PvP, imho.

  • Whilst I agree on changing the gameplay just slightly, They could make it so Grade V reapers that have zero emissary ships on the server, are more likely to server merge.

That said, there's nothing stopping reapers from chilling and doing PvE for a bit, until someone cocky comes along. Whilst it's probably not the salty content y'all are looking for, it gives a secondary benefit of ships avoiding you whilst you get forts and stuff done :P

  • All emissaries can see all reapers, grade 1-5.
After being pirated, they server hop or don't put their flag back up.
If they see me actually making progress towards 5, they finish up their voyages, turn in loot, and take down their flag or server hop.

I've reached grade 5 reapers multiple times. Every time, there's not even any other emissaries left; they've all taken their flags down or server hopped away.
(Edit: And I know it's a bit hypocritical, but most of the time this is after I server hopped to find a server with 4 or more emissaries. It's not that emissaries are lacking; there were a bunch of them to begin with, but they just server hop out when they see a serious reaper)

  • I think they need to completely rework the reaper progression so it is entirely pvp focused. Non stolen loot should give you no grade value. But sinking enemy pirates and taking their loot should give you more progression than it does currently. It should also not matter if they are an emissary or not; it should still rank you up if you pirate them. That way people can’t just spam skull forts to get grade 5 in reapers bones. It also shows that grade 5 reapers have been dominating the server and have sunken and stolen loot from several ships.

  • There needs to be some kind of benefit implemented to encourage people to keep emissary flags up beyond 5 and keep playing. More than just gold and progress but perhaps cosmetics commending the crews for time durations the flag is up. That way, taking it down to avoid reapers becomes less attractive as a strategy to avoid the threat. Similarly, Reapers need more incentives to keep going and a server full of emissary ships that are reluctant to lower their flag would do it. I don't have an issue with the map system or the reward system for grade 5 but once any of the other factions gets their complementary voyage done, they tend to rip their flags down and server hop or start over...or get off.
Because others can see reapers from grade 1, the reapers are at a distinct disadvantage as soon as their flag goes up because the majority of people avoid reapers like the plague and by the time reapers reach grade 5 to obtain emissary locations, most savvy crews have successfully evaded them for the session and lowered their grade 5 flag.

I feel, for time and / or distance travelled while flying an emissary flag, it should be rewarded with titles, cosmetics and commendations to further encourage players to retain their flags beyond grade 5. Super cool titles and cosmetics is what the game is geared towards obtaining for the element of prestige and this I feel could be part of a suitable solution to the server hop / no emissary problem.

  • Reaper V should get stealth mode and become invisible on the map!

  • reapers chests giving a lot rep and they spawn constantly

  • The tweaks I’d make would be no visibility on the map table at all. Would be more intense searching for ships. As the hunter or the prey. What emissary flags does that ship have that’s fast approaching? You look through you spyglass only to see it’s a reapers crew.

As far as keeping the flag up they should implement a standing with company. If you lower it with reapers on the server your warned you’ll lose reputation in the form of less multipliers. As you sail you’ll be told if the reapers are making the seas more dangerous therefore you’ll receive higher multipliers.

Please stay i'm hunting rb emissary ships 😋

  • @groggy-mayles This was what I was going for, but I just couldn't get the wording right.

  • @papesearch

    Agree very much.

Every time we reach grade 5, we check the map to find absolutely nothing...

We find ourselves having to hunt down whatever non-Emissary ships remain on the server, and fight them until they log out so we can hopefully get a server merge.

It’s awful, but we don’t really have a choice, otherwise we can’t make use of our grade 5 Emissary status.

Reapers should not be shown on the map. Right now, it’s simply deterring players from raising an Emissary flag since they can just server hop for a server without a Reaper.

I don’t know how hard this would be, but I think they also need to find a way to regularly backfill all empty server space, rather than needing to merge at all...

  • i think a good solution would be to remove all reaper tables from the outposts and let the only one be at reapers.. while everyone could see a reaper while they are lvl 1-4, but not anymore at lvl 5 when then reapers could see what kind of flag and level are other emmisaries....

Also selling a reapers emmisary flags could only be done at trading factions on all companies, for a fair ammount of rep and coin. that way there would be an incentive to either let the reapers come or even go after them.... reapers takes all flag but reapers..and trading companies only buy reapers flags....

  • @brunk there should be a pvp server for that in that case. some ppl dont want to just have ship battles. Should be an option to go into pvp only servers.
