Goodbye, and good luck in the future

  • Well, I'm kinda glad I gave my copy of this game away.. not because of the game, which is a nice "PG" look at the more whimsical part of piracy done in that Rare way that reminds me of those N64 days playing Banjo-Kazooie or Diddy Kong Racing.. just a really mellow tone..
Then I pick the game back up and haven't been playing for even a month, and I want to Drop it.
I'm not sure if this is an issue with the community as a whole or just and Xbox problem (Can't switch Servers)
I have legit just set sail from the menu, and only had to have been just out of the tavern when a Brig Sunk me.. This again happened by a two man Sloop, right after I grabbed the closest voyage.
Before, when I had actually put a little money in the game, it seemed there was a better player base whom would roll up on an outpost, see an undistinguished sloop, perfectly parked.. and shout on the horn or Voice Chat, just asking what's up.
I knew about the loss of digging up a whole literal Boat-Load of Treasure only to be Sunk/Boarded/Camped/Kicked Off Server.
So small loads, only one or two voyages worth of loot per load.

But these players are only out to make the game unplayable.. they'll pick a region it seems, like the Shores.
Prowl for a ship, sink it, then head to the area they think it just spawned to sink it again..
If you're fast enough, playing Solo, you can Raise Anchor, Lose Sails, and hopefully spot them before they Cannon over a guy who just anchors you and prevents you from fighting on the Cannon.
    Sink - Repeat.
Leaving and coming back did nothing.

So I look up the best way to contact anyone who's involved with the culture of the game.. Realized I got Insider Ready to Download (don't know how I have it)
Come here, ask a couple legit questions explaining I'm new and get talked down to by Players who claim that this is how things were meant to be.
Especially when I ask for some kind of something to deal with this problem, yes, I was asking for the Dev's to pull "Acts of God" levels of deterrence by the end of it, I got Angry.

Everyone knows people become bigger jerks online.
Doesn't mean we have to cater to it or let it dominate something meant for everyone..

I'm going to leave you with this video because it's what got me to try this game out again.. and I wish I hadn't

Devs, if you read this - I'm not going to erase my "Retail" Pirate - I'm going to wait and see what the game is like a few months..

If it's a ganking "Heck-Pit" (You know what I mean) then I'm deleting it and any gifts that might be awarded in the absence.. I'll just Delete the Pirate and be done with it.

I'n glad the only money I sunkk into this game was Xbox Free Play

  • I definitely get where you're coming from... I've run into so many toxic people within this game and community that it becomes flat-out exhausting.

I've been playing off an on since launch and I've had to take so many breaks from this game that it's insane.

There are amazing people playing this game, and friendly players running around too, but the overwhelming amount of toxicity is mind-boggling. (I feel it's an issue with most online games these days)

I will say it IS a part of the game, but I don't think it is meant to be as bad as it really is sometimes...

I won't belittle you like others, nor will I give you the same useless advice many give. I wish you well in your other ventures and I hope that if/when you come back you find the seas a little kinder.

  • I’d like to express a sorrow for you as the game can be overwhelmingly enjoyable. I’ve solo slooped since day one. Did a few things with a couple of crews here and there. But 80% of my way to many hours played was solo.

I’ve experienced just about every thing this game can offer and been on the receiving end of some pretty ugly people. While it’s unfortunate there isn’t some for of a Mod in game that can be called like an MMO. You can mute all other players at least.

However being attack right when you log on shouldn’t annoy you. Use it as PvP practice.

When I get on to play I never get on with a set goal in mind. That way I won’t be disappointed. I’ll put down the voyage I want to complete or go out and collect what I want and what ever happens happens.

Sometimes I think players take their gaming way to serious. As if the whole world saw what happened and you’ll be ridiculed. Aside from MLG tourneys no one really cares what you do in a video game. So just enjoy the game for its sandbox cartoony pirate theme.

  • it's so sad that you have given up on a game like this, i get where you are coming from and i definitely think there should be some kind of protection system when you spawn in and when you are fresh into the server. i personally think that when you spawn into a server your ship and yourself should not be able to attack or be attacked until you have gone a certain distance from the outpost(bear in mind this is only when you have first spawned in) just to give you a chance to stock up ect.

  • i also think when you spawn in from being killed there should be a 3 second period of invulnerability where you cannot be killed, stopping this recent trend of people keeping your ship afloat just to kill you

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 You just loaded into a server, just got a few steps in.. when you hear Cannons.. and see you're boat burning and sinking at the same time. (Remember this is the retail build so all that extra stuff isn't going to make this pvp any less stressful)
Is that "Sporting" behaviour or is that just defecating into someone's food bowl just because you couldn't control your impulses.. in other words "you felt like it"

  • @civildistrophey K bye.

  • @captain-coel don't be mean this guy is bringing up genuine problems with the game, don't be like the guys hes describing

  • @simplelyricc but he is describing people playing the game as intended. If this game as it's designed is not what hes looking for he should play something else. People need to understand a few things

Sinking a new spawn at an outpost is not toxic or griefing.
Taking fort loot from someone who just finished a fort is not toxic or griefing.
Spawn camping is not toxic or griefing.
Sinking a boat for no other reason than to sink it is not toxic or griefing.

This is a shared world pvpve game. You do not get pve or pvp by itself. I hope the OP finds a game they enjoy.

  • @simplelyricc bUt tHeN tHe pVp pLaYeRs wIlL tRoLl mOrE pVe pLaYeRs

I agree, even suggested something similar in an earlier post.
There should be a blast of energy from the ferryman's boat that knocks off all boarders or damages them for half health or more kinda like a powder keg.. this will stop "Spawn-Campers" but it should not be used for Mermaid spaens because you left your ship unattended.

    Seems fair right?

Suggest that in it's own topic and just watch the PvP Players Complain and Detract without giving a clear reason why this would hurt the game other than that the PvP "Will suffer" and that players will leave.. yes, the Jerks and Trolls will leave when they can no longer stress someone into tears.. and good riddance, we want them gone.

The only ones I paid attention to where the ones explaining how something could possibly back-fire.. they were the only ones who seemed to have actually ran it through their heads and though "How would I approach this"

  • @captain-coel i mean it kind of is griefing, you are sinking someone when you are pretty sure they have no loot, and keeping them afloat just to kill them over and over and ruin there experience, you are going out of your way to aggravate other players and ruin there experience

  • @civildistrophey

    Bon voyage Matey.
The days will turn to night, the tides will continue to ebb and flow.
If you ever find yourself back on these waters.
There shall still be plenty to plunder.

edit: It's a pity, like many.
You chose to join the forum just "hours" ago.
    To post... such a post.

It's a pity for the health of the "community" that it continues to be an issue re. first time posters.
They basically say something for the 1st time... and then for the last time. The one time.
I'm thankful... however... for a change, you do have the eloquence to carry your argument without venom.
These usually end up... with the OP throwing the toys out of the pram.

One would almost think, that maybe for the first Seven days, "New Members" should be unable to post in this manner.
.... Oh I wonder, if there has been a recent post/topic on this issue :)

  • @simplelyricc it's called scuttle. you have control to get out of being spawn camped.

  • @captain-coel but it is still griefing to spawncamp no matter if there are alternatives

  • there is some that just keep you ship alive to force out some salty tears an outrage.
My best advice is dont, you dont have to shuttle, but dont start a conversation with them, since that is just fuel for those types.

If I get in a situation where someone park up next to me to spawn camp me, I just wait in the ferry for some minutes, maybe peek out an see if they let me sink or left, killed again? just wait on the ferry, an wasted they time, an the oppetunity for another crew to come an ambush them while they are on your ship

  • @greencamillion1 but then that is a waste of your time

  • @simplelyricc no it's not. there are reasons to spawn camp.

  • @greencamillion1 Yeah, I saved One Kid from Campers near Cannon Cove.. Could hear the poor kid crying when I was nearby so I set a banana on the Griefers stove and then filled them with enough holes to let the kid escape.. watched their sails burn trying to catch me.

  • @simplelyricc well if I put myself in a situation to get spawn camp, I have probably shot at them myself.
An maybe I waste a little time, but for a PLA10, If you short at me an if you HIT my ship, then revenge is on the menu.
An from a mathematics standpoint, they are wasting 2-4 the time that Im wasting.

  • @piratecraggy Yes, I legit made this last night and by this morning I am about done with the Community.. not the Game, The game is excellent.. the Players less so..

Mostly in their mentality and unwillingness to see further than their own fun.

I'd rather Play a CoD Free-for-All with Wall Hackers, but instead I subjected myself to this Forum and the PvP players who shout down anyone explaining what they're doing as bullying.
Not to mention I got heated, so I didn't filter what I typed (just had to "Sanitize" it in order to post it)

  • @captain-coel like?

  • @civildistrophey said in Goodbye, and good luck in the future:

mentality and unwillingness to see further than their own fun.

Well.. you got me there matey. Completely agree.
It's a shame, you have joined the forum late... to leave so soon.
    That.. and now the game.
    At least for a while.

edit: It's a pity... we needed you here.. in the forum, before now.

  • @simplelyricc moving loot, moving supplies, waiting for the boat to sink.

  • @captain-coel we are talking about ships with no loot and very few supplies, them keeping it afloat for the sole intention to cause annoyance which happens in almost every PvP instance i get into as a solo slooper

  • @simplelyricc if you are getting spawn camped and cant recover just scuttle.

  • @civildistrophey Smart choice. The pvp survival games are brutal, nothing for fainthearted. Personally I wouldn't be able to play games like Rust or Ark. The only reason I can play SoT is the sailing which provides at least a little chance to get away from unfair fights. The game might look like cartoons, but it's still the same genre which attracts players lacking friendly attitude... and those that are friendlier can't risk being friendly because that makes it easier for others to sink them. This is never gonna change because it's in the core of the game. If you don't like the concept it's better to just delete and move on.

  • @piratecraggy Why?
I'm just some guy with a Dirt life, who has OCD and Aspergers.. I can't understand people and it really makes things like this hard because it was one of the only ways I kept in contact with my brother.. But the Bullies win.. let the [mod edit] destroy this game.. I'm done with the Condescending "Advice" I've been getting and I'm done with the [mod edit] who think that just because they've nosed their way up to an internet forum title it somehow invalidates the issues brought up by others.. especially new players trying to tell the Dev's what is making the game hard to break into.. it's not the learning curve of the mechanics, let me tell you that for sure.

Most of you don't even give much thought into how horrible you really are

  • @civildistrophey Insulting other people and calling them "[user edit - before it gets mod edited ;D" doesn't really help you make a point when you try to complain about "toxic players".

    But maybe that's just me.

  • @l4chsfps So replies the aforementioned "Naghty Word"

  • @civildistrophey

Suggestion take a break, play some other games.
You obviously love the core of the game.
Stay involved. Continue at least with "Insider" work... help on it's direction.
Provide feedback, we need voices such as yours. Get involved.
We need voices from all over ( including ones others may not agree with )
A game for all. Outside looking in... you still have a role.

  • @civildistrophey I quoted you and quite clearly used quotation marks. If that's the level of discourse you want this thread to come down to - good luck, it is clear that you are not trying to be constructive in any matter whatsoever.

  • @civildistrophey Your post has been edited as it goes against the Forum Rules and Pirate Code.

    Circumventing the Forum Profanity Filter

A profanity filter is in place to support our commitment to our community to create the world’s friendliest multiplayer game. Topics and posts which attempt to circumvent the filter will be edited or deleted and the users involved warned. Other kinds of advertising are not appropriate. Any form of spamming should be avoided. Trolling, baiting and witch hunts are also unacceptable. Please read and abide by the Forum Rules and Pirate Code in future.

    Thank you.

  • @civildistrophey

    Condescending "Advice"

Well... with your last response & attitude like that.
Guess you are on your own.

    ..moving on matey... next topic

  • @piratecraggy I'm sorry, I uninstalled both.
I'm staying on the forum for 24hrs to see if I can maybe relay to a Dev my personal experience over Xbox, it might be something the have no control over or it might be something that can be addressed.
Never will know unless somebody asks right?

But @L4chsFPS is the kind of example of condescension, adding the fact they seem to take my words or outrage towards PvP bully types, personally.

We get it, you like to Gank people because you just can't be bothered to actually work for some loot.

I can get sinking someone for their loot.. but fish? And Consistently?

This attitude of Defecating in others food bowls, just because you can, has got to be curbed.

I don't know who said it earlier, but there should be a sort of "Black Spot" that marks known trolls and Gankers to all players.. maybe more of a mark of shame.. but Mark them, let the community decide afterwards

  • @civildistrophey i agree with your points but not the methods you are taking to get them enforced
