@skylerpk said in Cross platform is ruining Sea of Thieves:
I have played both platform and i have to urge the developers to remove cross platform.
The setting that allows to choose Xbox players is there as a facade.
And to the people who say, just get good, i have played this game since day one sunk both types of players due to my tactics and critical thinking, but that will not help you much against a PC player and your only hope is that you get lucky and they make severe mistakes.
It's not just their use of mouse and keyboard, but it is way more extensive than that.
Usage of SSD: up to half the loading times on xbox, meaning they will be able to tend to their ship faster than you can.
Special network cards: reducing latency to extents where they are more in sync with the server. I had missed important cannon shots because the server updates slow on exbox and as soon as my seemingly perfect cannon shot fires, the latency updates my game and i missed greatly, because the seas elevation decreases and inclgreases all the time, yet pc players have that update faster and more smoothly.
144fps: this one is a no brainer. At that framerate, its easy to always stay behind your enemy and disorientate them. In certain cases you can skip out their view immediately. Your brain does not have to fill in the blanks like it does on 30 fps, thus you can be way more responsive and tactical with your movement and fighting.
PC players that say "get good" are just toxig by trying to keep these issues on the down low.
Another problem is that people say that if they cut off crossplay it would alienate the PC community. Why?
Well, its fun to win. They would be less incentivised to play against other PC players because it would be more work for the same level of gratification that until now, they've been pampered with.
Why make more effort now, they would just find somethong else to play. It is definately not because there aren't enough PC players.
A voyage takes usually between 45 min to 2 hours to complete. Its not worth it if you have a high chance of sinking and on PC, while there is one, its not high. They would just go play something that can give them that gratification and only have to play 10 or 20 minutes.
I love this game but i may find it not worth playing soon if this continues.
The most valuable thing we have as people is time. And i thing because of these factors, a PC players time is rewarded greater than an Xbox player at this point.
Again, on PC i have sunk endless xbox gallions solo on a sloop. Technical limitations would not allow me to do the same on xbox to PC gallions.
Quick note before i finish, i do not want private servers. That would ruin the idea of the game. Just remove crossplay. If you want to pool crossplay, do it with other consoles. Not PC.
I'm sorry for any spelling mistakes. I do not have autocorrect on.

Xbox users can have SSD's too.
Network cards are for wireless internet on PC... It has nothing to do with being somehow MORE in sync with the server. :P
If anything, wireless internet on PC actually makes their connection WORSE than with wired gaming.
PC and Xbox on the same server are, as i just said, on the same server... If you are experiencing lag spikes, and PC players aren't, that means YOUR internet is having issues... Fix your internet bro.
Anything above 30 FPS is a LUXURY, not a necessity... Meaning it's easier on the eyes, but higher FPS doesn't make you perform better.
And the amount of FPS a PC player can have, depends on their screen...
The newest 1080p screens can handle 240 fps max.
The 1440p screens can handle 144 fps max.
The 4k gaming screens can handle 60 fps max.
Now, here comes the mindblowing part... I have a 5500 USD PC with a 1440p monitor maxing out at 144 fps, so an expensive setup, in fact, an OVERKILL setup.
But Sea of Thieves is a poorly optimized game, so i frequently have my frames drop down to somewhere between 30-40.
And yet i have no problems fighting other pirates...
- it would alienate the PC community. Why?
Because 30% of the SoT playerbase is PC, the rest are Xbox... And a large portion of the PC playerbase, also use controller.
So really, the amount of KB&M players is astonishingly low... Removing crossplay would remove 70% of player activity, for PC players, because all the Xbox players are gone.
Which means, globally, the chance of a PC player finding a populated server, is more or less not possible or extremely hard... Therefore, PC players would be alienated... Because there would be no enemy players, in a multiplayer pirate game.
The most valuable thing we have as people is time. And i thing because of these factors, a PC players time is rewarded greater than an Xbox player at this point.
No, they are rewarded equally.
You have misunderstood the game on a fundamental level, this game isn't about treasure, it's about being a pirate. That's why most of us are comfortable with farming treasure for a few hours, and then losing it in a feat of piratical interactions.
This is a social game, where each session is an adventure. You're not playing for the treasure, you're playing for the adventure, the treasure is only there, to get the adventure going.
That's why this game rewards all players, equally, regardless of what platform they are on.
The reason people are telling you to "get good", is because it's the solution to your problems. ._.
They are helping you, but you just don't want to listen. : /
