Kraken Spawn Question

  • I'd like to put an end to a debate I have had with several people regarding the Kraken Spawn, I'd love if a dev could reply with confirmation.

So I've been told that the Kraken only spawns when there are no events (Skull Fort/Skeleton Fleet) in the sky. Is this true? (and if so does the Kraken moaning sound indicate this is the case and a spawn is likely)

    Thank You

  • In the olden days a kraken wouldn't spawn with a skull for active and would actually spawn almost instantly after a fort was cleared (there's a timer ticking down and it takes the first oppurtunity it gets after the timer hits 0 to attack a ship).

Nowadays this is no longer the case (forts are active all the time so then it would never spawn)

    Here are a few tidbits:

    • The kraken moan is at the same time each night.
    • The kranen has a cooldown timer it ticks down to 0 and when it hits 0 it will spawn on a random ship.
    • If you're the only ship on the server you get a 100% chance to spawn the kraken on you (joy)
    • Kraken won't spawn near islands or rocks or in Ship battle areas.

So if you're joining a server and you set out, every ship is mored near an island and the kraken timer is on 0 you'll get krakened as soon as you are far enough away from the island....

Edit: Welcome to the forums, dev's won't react to messages. They used to do this but it became tedious and time consuming.

  • @hynieth Thank you for the reply and the information mate :)

  • @hynieth
I did not know this at all. Thanks for the info. Do you know the mechanics behind meg/skel ship spawns by chance?

  • @neetzilla

@Hynieth Is mistaken. Please disregard some of what he said.

    First and foremost.

The Kraken only spawns when there are no raids in the sky. This is the way it is programmed and anyone who says otherwise just hasn't been paying attention.

The raids despawn when no one is doing them. The skeleton ship raid is tied to a shorter timer than the forts. So when they despawn the game has a chance to spawn the Kraken.

So if you are hunting the Kraken, after you see a raid go down, head to open waters and just drive around in a circle. She'll spawn on you if she does spawn at all.

  • @Neetzilla

@Hynieth is correct for a previous build but that has changed with a patch in the past. Without proof, I believe he just has it backwards. The servers can't handle that much at a time now with so many additions. I believe @Xultanis-Dragon is more accurate for the build of the game we have now. Forts and ship battles prevent the kraken from spawning while they are active but in the short window between clouds it's almost guaranteed that the kraken will attack someone, and as long as that kraken is active it will delay the next cloud. Knowing this, I've successfully hunted the kraken numerous times. It's so easy to defeat solo and can drop stronghold pieces so I'm always looking for him when possible.

  • @testakleze Are you sure thats how it was in the past? I could have sworn this is how it was from the beginning....hmmm

OOOH wait. The way forts worked in the past was different. They only spawned once every 3 to 4 hours. Which means the Kraken had more chances to spawn.

Kraken still only spawned when the Forts were down in the past. Its only that the Forts were down 90% of the day because the second it went up people would fight over it and complete it.

  • @xultanis-dragon I'm not 100% on this but way back in the day my galleon was contesting shark fin camp. We sank and while three of us were sailing back to the cloud, our fourth member stole the other galleon and sailed it off. Then the kraken attacked it. We watched the kraken battle their ship as we came back to the fort. Now my thought is, if the fort was completed, they wouldn't have been on the island allowing their ship to be stolen. They would have killed my crewmate and defended the key in their ship. If they had the key on the island, they wouldn't have been able to return to their ship to fight the kraken and ultimately saving it to come back. If three went back and left one guy with the key, they would have easily lost it to our crew and I don't believe they were that dumb.

I genuinely feel the fort was still active when the kraken hit. That's why we left their ship to its fate and went back to the fort. This was before everything that had been added. So I believe in early builds, forts and krakens could exist at the same time.

Many people argue the mechanics now saying that they can exist at the same time and that they have witnessed it, but I just believe they are recalling previous builds when it happened and possibly as early as cursed sails or even as late as shrouded spoils changed that.

  • @testakleze If your teammate took their ship its probably because they all left the boat.

A lot of players who are unfamiliar with protecting their ship will all run to the room with the loot, unload it to the beach and then load it into the ship.

They could have all just been on the island.

There was even a time when I stole an enemy ship, sailed it away and they never noticed until I sailed it 3 islands over when they spawned after dying to a skeleton.

I'm pretty sure anyone who things the Kraken spawns when the cloud is up is just not really paying attention. They are focused on a lot of other things when its going on and just kinda get details mixed up.

  • @xultanis-dragon you may be right. That was very early in the game and I can't remember all of the details of what happened. It was just very memorable when he stole their ship and sailed it into the kraken. As far as the fort goes, I can't be sure what was going on with it.

I may be wrong about past builds but I strongly believe that right now, the kraken is basically another cloud event, only appearing between actual clouds. That's why people get attacked a lot leaving forts or collecting loot from the skeleton ship battle in the open ocean. Which fuels the belief that the kraken likes ships with loot.

    Yeah I completely agree.

  • Kraken spawns in my experience can happen at anytime to anyone. Two days ago I was solo slooping it and got attacked by the kraken twice.....In the same voyage I might add. Left first island, kraken spawn on my and I barely get away. Go second island and get my treasure, on my way to third island Kraken probably got salty that I escaped the first time and attacked me again. Almost immediately picked me up and through me so far from my ship that my ship sunk before I could even reach it.

Kraken seems to be turned up lately, that or I was alone in a server and didn't know it. That would be a good reason why it attacked me twice so close together.

  • It 100% only spawns when there is no cloud event active. It's been this way for as long as I can remember. Devs probably won't tell you that but it's a fact, ✌.
