Scuttling ship should sink ship immediately

  • So I had the unfortunate experience today of being griefed by a sloop of kids with nothing better to do than to torture anyone they could find. Unfortunately, as I was still trying to get the reaper's mark commendations, I was easy pickings for them.

Now, I get it. This happens, and I was kind of expecting it. I decided to scuttle my ship from the ferry. Problem is, those damn kids were keeping my ship afloat deliberately so they could spawn camp me until I left the server. Thankfully, I was able to stop them from keeping it afloat so it could finally sink. I did, of course, have to leave anyway because I knew that they would just try to do it again when I respawned.

Personally, I feel that if one votes to scuttle the ship, it shouldn't be possible to keep the ship afloat. It should sink immediately. By doing this, it will not be possible for griefers and trolls to infinitely spawn camp their victims.

  • Also dealt with another two trolls in a brig earlier in the day that did the exact same thing (but I didn't scuttle. I was able to kill them both and their ship had already sank). I'm failing to understand what fun people get out of spawn camping.

  • The ship will still sink after a short period of time even if you are trying to keep it afloat when scuttling.

  • @r4bbi-the-shark If i may, i would like to present an alternate reason why they wanted to keep the ship afloat. They may have done so just so they can steal your suplies. I maybe wrong here but when the ship sink you lose access to all supply barrels. Players ships are by far the best source for supplies. Which i suggest they make it so when a ship sinks all their supplies float back up like the barrels of pleanty. So that way we can at least rule out this reason for spawn killing.

  • I think people might be misunderstanding me here. Though I accept that attackers may want to raid supplies, the ones who attacked me weren’t. They openly said that they wanted to prevent my ship from sinking so they could kill me again and again.

As for the ‘choosing to respawn’, you fail to realise that from the ferry there is no way to tell if your ship is actually sunk unless you respawn. So it becomes a guessing game.

And for the record, I ain’t naive. I’m simply voicing a concern. No need to insult me.

  • @enf0rcer This would indeed be a good idea. Tbh I don’t know why it never worked this way from the start.

  • Also worth pointing out that in the second instance I listed here, the enemy ship was already sunk, so they had no reason at all to gather supplies. I’d also bled my ship dry of supplies in the fight, so there was no reason to loot mine either. They were silent but it was clear they kept my ship afloat to spawn camp me.

In the end, I managed to kill them both AND repair my ship using planks from a nearby island. But sure enough they came back within minutes, so I left the server immediately knowing full well their intent.

Ironically, you can usually tell when a ship is out to grief by the fact they come at you with a non-customised ship. Both ships in this case had plain sails.

Ok then thats sound terrible and one of the most obvious forms of grifing outship crews i heard of. I'm sorry yohad to go through that. did you manage to get the GT's of the players who did this. I would advise you to submit a report ticket with a recording if possible as this is a clear violation.

  • It is literally impossible for them to keep your ship afloat if you scuttle. If they keep it afloat beyond the time it's supposed to take to sink, the ship simply forces a sink and disappears.

If you're in a situation in which you want your ship to sink... simply scuttle, go to the bathroom, get a drink, and come back. It will absolutely be sunk and respawned somewhere else.
