Personal loot caves that encourage pvp in an interesting way.

  • This is more for 'end game' players that have excess gold. The idea is basically this;
    Adding caves on the map that players can use to stash their excess gold. With the way loot works in the game currently, it'd work like this;
    A large chest in the middle of the cave, and the more gold deposited into it, the more lavish the cave would become, i.e Piles of gold and valuable
    gems pile higher and higher within the cave.
    BUT, there's more!
    When the player claims a cave for their own, a locked door is added to the entrance and they recieve a key, which hangs around their neck.
    A large keyhole would adorn the locked door with glowing golden light shining through it to indicate to other
    players roughly how much loot is inside! (The brighter the glow, the more gold contained within) (There's a good reason for this, bare with me).
    If another player finds the locked door, and reads the name of the owner written above it, they can go to the nearest voyage giver, and bribe them
    with 1000 gold to tell them which voyages they have granted to the owner of the loot cave. That way, they can look at the locations
    and potentially hunt them down, steal their key, and raid the stash.
    I realise that there are some flaws with the way players hunt the key holders, but this is just an initial idea of how it would work.
    But being able to bribe NPCs for information seems like the piratey way to go about it. It's would have to be difficult to find the player of course, because the
    payout would be huge.
    So what do you guys think?

  • @l3m0nxman I think this is an interesting idea. However, the use of prescribed cave locations makes the whole thing seem a bit limited. I just posted something similar in this thread which suggests we can bury our low level chests and they can then appreciate in value the longer they stay hidden. Combining that with your idea, other players could then bribe the gold hoarders to get a riddle or a map to the location, making the return for you much more treacherous. What do you think?

  • @fenderbendur I mean it could potentially be every cave? Perhaps the world would need to be bigger to make the whole idea viable but who knows. I like your idea, however I'm not sure how comfortable I am with buried gold just multiplying for no reason? xD I get that it's a reward for keeping it hidden for so long but it doesn't really make much sense. Also, it'd probably be pretty difficult to write an algorithm in the code that reliably provided accurate clues for players to use when searching for buried player chests. And if they used general ones that hinted at the name of the island, it wouldn't take long for players to make a cheat sheet telling which island relates to which clue.
