  • I was looking at the last News video just a couple hours ago, that was 4 months ago!! 4 months! Glad to see them again :D

  • @taaaamas Me too! I tried to list all the new stuff... I hope I got it all in.

  • Yippie , Magical Mike has returned back to the surface and wow, God ,i have missed this voice ... The inspiration, that storytelling voice that enrich my imagination just by telling about all those upcoming features and events... it has just let me run to my desk and write a few thousends of Letters of Marque . Whoever brings me the head of that snakey Corona virus will get loaded in treasure. i have missed the Great Visionair for far too long...

May this man never leave Rare because Rare without Mr Chapman would never be Rare anymore... All hail to the True Pirate Lord!!!!!!

  • @clumsy-george With Mike Chapman in charge of creative design and lore we are in safe hands!

  • News update very refreshing to see. Hopefully we get this with their new schedule, every 3 months before each season is released.

  • @musicmee

January will kick off a very fun time in Sea of Thieves. With 100 levels of renown to progress through, I could just curse like a sailor out of sheer excitement!

  • @chronodusk And each and every season will work that way! Always something to aim for and a reputation system that keeps expanding/changing!

  • I am excited to see some changes with the events, and I can hope that the new update schedule will allow for larger more bug free updates

  • Some exciting stuff here! Plenty to get our hooks in to.

  • @luciansanchez82 Agreed! The new year should be filled with new content delivered in new and exciting ways!

  • Looks like 2021 is going to be another strong year for SoT. Can't wait!

  • "Plunder Pass - A season pass with exclusive rewards and fast track access."

    na na na na
    hey hey

  • Hehehe, great to see more news for SoT!
Its been a few good months since we got a SoT news, so this is a welcome surprise!
More gilded voyages you say? Hahahahaha! I've still got me gilded Athena from last year!

Anyways, I'm keeping my spyglass to horizon, 2021 sounds promising.

  • "It's you the players who make Sea Of Thieves of what it is today" - Really?

  • Arena is a sad one but could see it coming. Has so much potential but I feel the overhaul earlier in the year didn't work and it would take another complete change to get people back in it. Was hoping just maybe they had plans to get people back in arena but I guess not, current mode has very little replay-ability once you've done the commendations other than TDM/custom games.

  • It's a pity that Arena is not getting any update... like Emissary or new modes like Land Battles, Devil's Roar Maps or just simply small events alongisde with new cosmetics.

  • @guilleont I would love to have seen them have add the emissary style leaderboards to Arena and see if that drove competition and players returning to keep their top spots.

A quick win where they get reset monthly and each month could add a simple cosmetic as a prize for top tiers.

  • This part caught my attention:

Rewarding players for shorter or longer sessions, even when not doing specific quests.

I’ve always said SOT’s is a session based game and if I don’t have 3 Hours to play (minimum) SOT’s isn’t even an option. I just play something else. When RL gets busy SOT’s gets shelved for days, weeks even months at a time.

  • @glannigan

I know a few people who will be happy with this too, they just cant invest great amounts of time into gaming. But players will be able to progress through tiers without choosing any particular quest, faction or play style. This one really is a rules not rules kind of thing... Sailing around could possibly just be enough to get you to the high tiers!

  • I like the idea of longer development on updates and am excited to see what the new reputation system and "rewards for long or short sessions" will look like.

Not very jazzed about the Battle Pass though. It's not a huge deal, I don't plan on paying for it anyway, but it's a little too close to cash mules like Fortnite and COD for my tastes and a little disappointing to see here.

I'll give Rare the chance to keep it reasonable, but I'm gonna be side-eyeing them from now on.

That’s a really good and easy to implement idea that would probably quell some of the constant “tdm?” rallying in the Arena Tavern!

why did they add seasons that's dumb

  • @closinghare208 you should wait to see what it looks like in game. It might just surprise you matey ;)

No thx, let it finally die.

  • This seems quite an exciting time for Sea of Thieves! Regarding arena though I think it is such a shame to hear that it will not really be considered for further development. I totally understand that if it’s currently only such a small proportion of the player base it makes sense to devote the vast majority of development to adventure mode.

My opinion is this: effectively cutting it off from any further development is misguided. Yes it may be a small user base at the moment but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be larger with changes to it. Making arena esports friendly and encouraging that competitive side could be great for the game overall. Established esports lead to longevity of the game, increased merchandising and increased breadth of coverage and publicity in different media alongside new potential sponsorships.

I think for the longevity and diversity of the game some development should be given to arena even if it’s a tiny proportion in comparison with adventure. Why stymie what could be a huge boost to the game just because the arena mode we have isn’t popular. That says to me that arena needs more development, not less. Obviously adventure keeps the game going and requires most attention but why not diversify better and hedge your bets a little in order to ensure the future of the game?

It's also a pity that Emissaries, a system that everybody loves, won't have any update in its rewards in a near future.

I also think that Arena could have a big benefit from EM, with the expansion of levels up to 75. Or with little events that don't require a lot of development. A monthly reward may be too much, but each 2-3 months will be alright.

Since Arena is not tie to Lore as Adventure does, they could include cosmetics behind new commendations easily, like the Arena ship sets (win 10 times with the blue ship as a Triumphant Dog), more Courage cosmetics, or a new reskin of the Sea Dog cosmetics. Arena cosmetics are the more flexing ones, since you need to be somewhat good at PVP. But first, Rare should fix the sword at least, and the cheap cannon farming on Galleon Arena.

  • Bluntly we get battlepass, yay..............

I am happy for cosmetics and the stats for the player base sits around 50/50 which is really good news, but im not very impressed.
Looks like an addition to the Merchant alliance is coming but its still not many of us are waiting for.

Cant say that the future of Sea of Thieves is promising, far from seeing a Tall Tale havent heard anything about a map expantion or new mythical creatures, maybe they are all coming but i want to hear it from Rare.

  • @capteggpants None of that matters if that's not the direction Rare wants to take their game.

  • @galactic-geek

But one can't help but to feel the reason The Arena has failed is because the Devs failed at listening to what the players playing in that mode were asking for..

They tried to be unique in their design of a combat mode and really failed in their delivery of it. And on top of that, as fewer enjoyed it, fewer played it, and then it became riddled with issues that they wouldn't, or couldn't fix and fewer still played it.

When time is short, i loved jumping onto the arena for some fun action, and gained invaluable combat experience which i carried over to the adventure mode with me.

It is such a shame to see the mode die off. It just needs new direction and not be afraid to copy other ideas from popular combat games. Rare can do that.. They are moving to seasons and plunder passes after all.. A very common way of playing..

Glad the game is doing well, but I’m
    In the same boat.
A battle pass, is just... meh more monetisation I guess.
But I know it will make a lot of people happy with stuff to do. Just not for me personally.

I do wonder if when they say that it will mean you can have shorter sessions, if that only really applies to to premium variant.
I can’t say I’ve ever seen a free BP which has been easy for anyone to do without investing money or a lot of grinding.

Either way 2021 will be an interesting year for SoT. I hope they add some stuff which draws me back to the seas.

  • @knifelife Great to see you around these parts matey :)

Ohh I’m still lurking around haha. I just haven’t been playing to much recently so don’t want to give out to many uninformed opinions 😂

  • @knifelife Hahaha 🤣 I saw that avatar and said "wait a minute, I know that avatar"... and low and behold its YOU!!!

Either way, glad to see you still lurking :D I think Seasons may just have the ability to draw you back... I hope.

  • @galactic-geek I know, I said it was just my opinion. Seems like some good things ahead, I'd just personally prefer it if arena had a little place there beyond a legacy mode.
