Sea of Thieves Insider - Reward Progression is too slow - Suggestion

  • Hey!

Playing only one hour a week for one progression reward was fine in the beginning of Insider but now that there are so many weeks to catch up it feels too slow.

I play it mainly for the cosmetic rewards. Many do too. I usually just try to do a random event or something else that's new but most of the time I already unlock the hour reward before completing those things so I just get off. Sure you could play more but that's why I'm suggesting adding a quicker progressive system so that people like me who play to catch up the cosmetic rewards can also play longer and test the build better. It's also hard to play every week to get the best progression. Sometimes you just forget about it for a few weeks or months.

  • The rewards are there as a bonus for testing features every week. They don't care if you're behind, because that isn't the focus for the Insider program. They aren't going to add a catch up mechanic for these rewards unless the insider program ceases to exist, and even then it's doubtful.

  • To echo what @d3adst1ck said and add to it, the reward is actually access to new content first for the means of testing it. A sweet bonus is exclusive cosmetics to those of us who test out new mechanics and report on the bugs we find.

Basically, it would be a pretty big slap in the face to those of us who have remained active in the community over the last year and a half to then essentially gift those cosmetics to newcomers who have not yet put in the time and effort to be a part of said community.

  • The only concern I have is when there's going to be a definitive cutoff date and whether the Insider rewards will end prior to that - I have already fallen a few weeks behind and would hate to find out that I won't be able to finish the Insider set as a result.

  • To continue with what @D3ADST1CK has said i agree a catch up would take away from those that grinded for the last year. I'm like you @MeatDude4 I've played a few times then skipped a few months I wish I hadn't skipped but I don't want a catch up either when I eventually get the cosmetics I want them to be exclusive. Also @KommodoreYenser are you the guy that made that parody? If so thanks I still go back to watch it every so often and if not thank you all the same I think i'll go watch it again today

  • @kommodoreyenser you don't get them gifted you will be able to earn them quicker because it will take you over a year to earn them.

Rare also made black market items come back so why not make this easier. It's not about the exclusivity here it's about participating in Insider. They need more Insiders otherwise they would've closed it already so this would get people to play longer and instead of it taking a year+ to earn the rewards you can earn them in 1/3 or 1/2 of the time.

I don't like rare not making some things exclusive but by now we should know what will be exclusive/limited edition and what not. Insider will always be a thing because the game will always get updates that need testing.

  • @d3adst1ck If their focus is for you to play Insider then why not suggest players to play for longer than an hour so they can test longer/better while also adding a catch up system for the cosmetics that are clearly not limited edition since the game will forever be updated and need testing for those updates.

  • @galactic-geek Pretty sure there won't be a date any time soon. Sea of Thieves is doing really well so for the next 5-10 years they will be adding content and updating the game. Those updates need testing = Insider Program is needed.

Lol, no man wasn't me. Was ArinsMind

I still get a laugh out of it to this day! Reminds me of how bad a lot of us really had it when I read all these "PvE mode" and "Bring back X cosmetics" threads.

  • @meatdude4
You could also just get rid of the random 3.000 gold rewards eventually. Or at least most of them.

With these suggestions you will have a more consistent amount of testers each week. People look forward to getting the actual rewards the next week and since you don't get a random 3.000 gold (hopefully as often) it would motivate them.

    TLDR

Either way you could debate which would be better. More hours for more rewards a week or less rewards but more rewarding rewards per week.

  • I used to play insiders just for The rewards. But then I realised - I wasn’t making any progression in the game, and I was spending my valuable time, for a ship set that I would rarely use because I have dozens of sets. Spending 20-30 HOURS for a ship set, when you could just put on a different ship set and save yourself over an entire day of your life to do on other things.

Now I only use Insiders occasionally, for testing - as intended.

  • We are not part of the Insider program just because of the rewards... we are there to test new things. Our reward is that we get to see and test stuff before others.

Insider will always be a thing because the game will always get updates that need testing.

...and our punishment is the plethora of bugs, glitches, exploits, and what in the?'s we encounter.

I mean, we could always go back. Take all this loot everywhere out of the sea, go back to one world event every 3 hours that way people have something central to fight over. We could revert to time limited cosmetics and make them buyable with a currency you can only earn by doing specific tedious tasks that also involve the co-operation with another crew.

Keep in mind I am not saying any of this sucked, I found most of it fun, but losing a boat haul of loot means nothing in comparison these days. Certainly not to get upset enough to demand a completely new game mode or the return of old cosmetics because you either couldn’t complete all the tasks or missed out cause you weren't playing at that point in time.

  • @galactic-geek Search up sea of griefs it's a sea of thieves parody publish date was 2018 has over 785k views definitely a good watch

And...you are insider for the wrong reason.

  • @voidshipwrecks I will, but I think I've already seen it - it sounds familiar.

    UPDATE: Yep; seen it.

  • @meatdude4 the system is fine as it is. if you want the cosmetics, put in the time. i know i enjoy insiders to go bug hunting, the cosmetics are a fun bonus.

It's become clear to me that I misread your post. I thought you were still referring to what ArinsMind did, and not the general state of things.

Ahh yes, I meant I get a laugh out of it thinking about "the old days" and then reading these ridiculous complain threads about this being too hard now or getting attacked all the time.
