Forsaken shores is the worst update ive ever played this game is awful now

  • Where do i begin? The fact that the Volcano will shoot rocks that litearlly heat seek towards your ship when you are 200% out of range of any possibility for a rock to hit your ship, the fact that earthquakes and geysers happen every 20 seconds so you litearlly cant do anything or explore without getting killed or hurt. Ontop of it all you have players who will kill you on sight and wont let you explore or leave you alone and the fact that we still dont have private servers is beyond me. I cannot and will not play this game, its awful. Too much going on at once, the grind is still slow, and there is just nothing to it. Quests are still all the same, regardless, no variation to it. But other than that what really set me off was the fact that you literally have rocks THAT HEAT SEEK TO YOUR BOAT. Its just like the skeleton ships with their aimbot that allows them to hit your ship every time. So thanks for wasting my time with this update. See you next time

Could not agree more. My crew will not play this update with me again after tonight. It should be fun having to adjust to the world from time to time but the dangers were constant. At one point we were on a small island and I kid you not the entire sand surface was covered in geysers and all going off at once. It looked like a kids splash pad. This is not fun Rare. You need to turn them down by at least half on the frequency and the range on the volcanoes is insane also. I rowed in over 200 yards to an island just to have a volcano go off and destroy the rowboat. The volcano had just stopped 3 or 4 minutes before that. What is the point of rowboats then?

  • Gotta say, I also agree. Just like the meg..the volcanos, geysers and barrel/sniper skeletons are turned up to 11. Everything in moderation, please! Bring it all down to about a 6. Let me love you SoT!

  • Have to say that i rly wnjoyed this update but still to short (alrdy Done with it)

Vulcanos and there heat seeking rocks abit to much in My opinion but still they made the game more intresting for My part, (there is something going on all the time)

And the loot is rly Good in that area :)

And Op Said that it takes too long to grind?? How long have you played the game???

  • My first rowboat was decimated within minutes : (

    Good fun

Lol this sums up the SoT complainers quite perfectly.

  • Forsaken shores is the [redacted] filter of this game, Im very happy on how it turned out, a challenging area where loot is worth more and voyages are more dangerous + no annoying animals to fetch it`s paradise for me, if anyone complains about the islands being too hard, well that is a pretty good sign that such opinion and all subsequent opinions of that person are to be discarded forever.

All hail Forsaken Shores, the [redacted] filter.

edited on my own behalf out of concern for the forum rules regarding personal attacks.

  • @walperr

You're just being a [mod edited] here. Don't. Just don't. Pretend to be better than that.

As for the actual topic of the post, not just trolling for the sake of it, I have to say that despite other problems with content updates in the past I was still willing to play through, knowing that things would be fixed. But the game as it stands right now is basically unplayable. I'll be watching out for Rare's inevitable "Soooo we heard your feedback, and we fixed it..." youtube video... those are starting to show up biweekly nowadays...

    Classy...

  • Have you considered the possibility that everything's more intense due to the new weekly event (you know, like every single weekly event they've had so far)? I'm almost certain it will be dialed back after the event is over. Be patient.

I'm not exactly supporting this thread but I still like to listen to the complaints so we can make ideas to help improve the game. Your statement is a little incorrect.

    1. The Meg shows up and can attack you at will (actually more than when the event started because Meg was isolated to an area).

    2. Exploding Skellies spawn at the same exact rate as before. (Athena missions still spawn like 4 barrel skellies on a regular island spawn - not Order of Souls spawn.)

    3. The Cursed Crews have no real change other than the loot is less than when the event was going (only real change is the type of crew you encounter is random and the timing is offset from a skull fort).

  • @urihamrayne plebe filter? Whatever happened to the part of the "magic code" that says the sea calls to everyone?" You wouldn't be being deliberately antagonistic here, would you?

  • Give it some time to adapt yourself to it...Before Forsaken Shores we could sail our boat uncontested next to the shore , only a skeleton would shoot a crackshot once and a while...Now things are more perilous , it has been said ,more than once that the rowboat is needed to put your ship out of harm...And yes those rocks can be hurled very far ,but not all over the map...The game has become harder since we are now challenged by nature ,something we never had before in this amount of power...A storm could kill us ,yes ,if we were too slow but now it's more dangerous and ...thrilling...You will see that within a few days you will have lesser losses...we just need time to adapt , me too because i'm the worst pirate around...

  • I was thinking that if they can code the rocks or canonballs to hit you right in the head, it might be better to code them to miss you by an inch. It's much more spectacular and rewarding than dying lol

  • @supriseautopsy I think they probably are... reported for mod as not so sure on intention or meaning...

Back on topic though... I haven't played yet, thankfully the lack of time restriction on commendations now means I can explore at my own leisure, so I won't rush in day 1 when it is hyper busy! Plus I had a load of work on this week!

If you want to avoid dying then look at the sky and run below deck to avoid a hit. Watching my crewmates and have them watch me do it was a joy. And it works! You will survive if you take cover (which is the point said in the marketing material).

Find a cave to hang out in. Or if you take the risk then chances of dying to go up. Why even complain? You took the risk...

Thank you, I know all of that but it will always happen (especially when you play solo). I don't mind at all dying from rocks but I don't like that it doesn't feel natural at all.

It may call to everyone, but it doesnt have to hear everyone, this update helps us know which is which.

  • To those who are leaving, can I have your stuff?

  • @gatorwocky said in Forsaken shores is the worst update ive ever played this game is awful now:

To those who are leaving, can I have your stuff?

I have over a million gold. Would give it to you if I could.

  • I'm digging this. I love tension and difficulty. although the Athenas skellies are too much.

  • I had a lot of fun playing the new area.

I understand how the insane volcanoes are upsetting everyone but in all honesty...they're volcanoes. Not sure what is expected here. I also seriously doubt the rocks are "heat-seekers". Most likely just bad luck and with the spread of rocks that come out you honestly shouldn't expect to not get hit by them if in range.

Only feedback I have on them is reduce the time between eruptions.

  • I decided to give this update a try; it was my first time playing in over a month and a half. The game is unplayable in its current state, with all the stuttering. The stutter in this game has always been an issue on specific islands, and occasionally ships, but this time around I was stuttering off my ship and could barely navigate the islands. Launching myself off my ship towards the shore is a jittery mess, and I always get briefly stuck against the beach. I'll give it another try in a few more weeks/months.

  • @el-dunco They arent heat seekrs but they clearly are targeting ships, it doesnt look random when a volley of magma rocks is coincidently thrown in your ship direction, but even then, it is still perfectly manageble, duck and cover or you'll get sniped.

  • @urihamrayne If that is the case then a simple serpentine should solve the problem. Just like the skelly canons as soon as you hear the shot, turn.

  • @el-dunco The old zig zag routine is enough to worm your way out of any situation on the Sea of Thieves! (well volcanoes and cannon skellies anyway)

  • Exploring the Devil´s Roar is supposed to be hard. If your so bad that you can´t leave one man one the ship, go back to the other regions!

  • I have been playing this game less and less...mainly because my friends gave up on the game pretty quickly and i carried on as a solo player hoping things would get better. Every new update is mediocre and the novelty of it is over within a matter of an hour or so. I managed to convince one of my friends to try forsaken shores with me yesterday... we sailed to the new outpost and our 2 man sloop was instantly raided by a galleon who took all our supplies and sent our ship sailing away. We scuttled the ship to get fresh supplies only to be sank by the same galleon 5 minutes later. As a solo im used to being sank by 4 man teams... but to then have to travel the length of the map just to start a new campaign and check out some new features is ridiculous. Nothing on this game can be done quickly. The game caters towards team play and solo players are left to struggle their way through because rare wants to force us to make new friends and all play together. But then they overlook the fact that galleon crews will sink sloops on sight for no apparent reason at all. My friend gave up after we lost all our loot to a volcano and super heated water... then spawned half way across the map. I tried to play again today but sank after getting to one island in the forsaken shores only to spawn once again at the other side of the map. Sailing is far too slow for it to put you so far away. The forsaken shores requires far too much time for me to invest in it. Im not willing to spend all my day sailing against the wind just to get back to an area of the map i need to be in to unlock some meaningless commendations. Maybe if i had a crew i would stand a chance at keeping my ship afloat... but as it is the game has spoiled my experience. I dont find this game fun anymore. I spend ages sailing around and getting trolled for minimal gain. I solo'd all 3 skeleton ship locations only for it to not register one of them... thus missing out on the cosmetics and commendations. The forsaken shores was the straw that broke the camels back.

  • @el-diablo-rojo6
Hmm, I agree and disagree lol. I do think the geysers are a bit too much, just like I feel the barrel skellies need to be turned down a bit. I disagree on the volcanic rocks though I mean granted I was in a sloop last, but I was only hit by one rock didn’t feel like they were targeting the ship per say. Now, for the people killing you part, I would say that is going to come with the territory, unless there following you around everywhere you go and killing you over and over again(the point of grieving you), that aside though, understand that it’s probably there biggest update right and with that is going to bring a lot of players, as well as probably returning players some who are legends and just want to check it out. I and my wife were on a sloop last night and we were attacked by a brig, they left us alone after the first volley, but we chased them and sunk them, so it’s kind of expected lol we also saw at least two gallies in the area and two sloops. The last pet I disagree with and I know it’s your OP, this is just a discussion, but I feel that this was there best update. They expanded the map adding what like 15 new islands, volcanic interaction which is different and I think the sound of the eruption and shaking etc is spot on, you have rowboats, although I can’t seem to find any, you have tons of new cosmetics etc, even though I don’t really for them and to top it all off they finally finally fix quite a bit of stuff to me the best was the animation after leaving the barrels where you now regain control of you character immediately I feel that alone makes the game feel so much smoother, they tweaked the barrel system, also can’t forget they fixed the issue with accessing the barrels on ship while moving. They did all this and for free most companies would of charged you. I guess I just feel that with this update they addressed everyone’s concerns, is there still fixes and more content needed, of course, but that will come in due time.

  • I sat close enough to an island last night where I could hop off my boat onto dry land. Watched the volcano start to smoke, then start spewing rocks as I waited for my crewmate to get back on the boat with a chest he had just dug up. Took him a couple of minutes. In that time, I was not hit by a single rock. The boat did get pushed a bit, seems the impact of rocks in water moves them like a barrel exploding nearby. But even once my crewmate got back on the boat, we were able to sail our sloop (against the wind) completely out of range without being hit once. I don't think they do target boats, and if they do it's not that consistent. Out of all my playtime last night, we got hit by a single rock, and we played the entire night without a rowboat.

  • @drunkpunk138 The crew I was with last night developed a new parking strategy when next to a volcano.

    1. Park your ship to get the best wind when you leave.
    2. Drop anchor and sails
    3. Earthquake is a good sign of a potential eruption
    4. See smoke? Raise anchor and potentially leave crewmates behind so they can ride it out.
    5. Full blown sails and the ship quickly zips out of the range of the volcano. Maybe one or two hits that are easily repairable.
  • @drunkpunk138 They are targeting boats but it seems like its broken. I've had cases like yours where I ended up sailing within range of a volcano and didn't get hit at all (a few close calls though).

Then another time I was parked within short swim distance at an island adjacent to a volcano island and as the volcano starts erupting I see rocks landing somewhat close to my ship. By the time I swam back (hampered because the ship started moving) it gets hit by 4 successive rocks. I was able to save the ship, but the way the lava rocks work is definitely not random.

  • Sorry. I love this update. Keep it up Rare!!! Give it some time. Nothing is perfect in the beginning.

  • @auntrusty-mango Rare doesn't permaban people on first offence. Certainly you, much like me, have been committing repeated breaches on the forum code of conduct. Only thing left to do is flag me if I am being too unreasonable for you.

  • Devils roar is pretty terrible. Its to cumbersome to do voyages in. Even though you get like double it’s still not worth it
