Disconnect ....loose all progress

  • K a person goes afk, due to real life. Game disconnects him....seemed fast but understand....but you loose all progress, treasures, and location in game when solo.....that's beyond stupid. Is there a reason for this that has been explained?

to keep afk people from population server slots that others could take, Also if you have stuff and know you need to go afk just sell it first i mean thats comon sense

  • @dragonsire2016 The bigger problem is how easy it is to end up disconnected.

On PC, if someone adds me as a friend in the Xbox app - say they want me to join their party. The only way to do this without disconnecting is to go to the video settings and switch to windowed mode, then carefully open or switch to the Xbox app - making sure not to accidentally minimize the game. If you don’t do this exactly right, you get disconnected. Basically, any Alt-tab in the game kicks you out. Which wouldn’t be an issue except the fact that it is often necessary to do that because of the jacked social/comms setup.

im on pc and i never got DC because of alt tabmuts be problem on your side

  • @tralalakk Do you play in “Fullscreen” or Windowed mode? I put “Fullscreen” in quotes, because it’s not a true Fullscreen.

When I Alt Tab while in Fullscreen, the game minimizes and disconnects me.

  • Naw Bran there's something else unique to your set-up causing that issue... I play the game in a variety of windowed set ups and alter that set up depending on my needs near daily and have the issue ONLY during initial load-in to the game (That is once I 'set sail' THAT loading screen if I tab will kill the client, seems common regardless of my display mode).

That said, to the OP, It's been an issue since launch and doesn't have an obvious fix. I mean we can't choose our servers and technically you could be the only player on a server that migrates once you leave... so reasonably speaking you have no tools to reconnect to your session, even if the session persists.

Being able to reconnect to the session creates an exploit loop-hole where log-outs will protect users from death/or protect spawn campers.

    and so on...

There are ways to mitigate the issue... and they exist in other games... but they're not perfect and I am sure there are reasonable reasons they haven't implemented these 'fixes' that haven't been openly commented upon.

Sorry. Simply the state of the game and IMO absolutely stupid.

Ah, yep... was indeed my setup. A little internet search and there it was - turned on the ability for SoT to run in the background and that solved it. Thanks! Man, that was bugging me for the longest time, lol.

  • @bran-the-ent naw, I tried, but you did the work.. wish I would have remembered that from back in the day when I learned about that issue myself (though I never had the issue personally).

My effort to help is simply motivated by my absolute hatred of PC variables potentially creating issues with running any game...

Many are the game I've bought in the last few years that I'd had to dig through the interwebs just for the satisfaction of running the thing... SoT is no different... State of Decay 2... wow that was a whole 'nother can of worms... but all games in general seem to have serious issues being easily played right after install... drives me batty!

  • @blooddoll22 Yah, I can see the potential for exploit. But like you said there are ways around that. I mean the ship could stay persistent in the world for 10 min, after you dc, and if you don't come back it disappears, booty as well. Ship might be empty by the time you get back, but at least there would be the chance.

If nothing else it would be nice if your quests at least stayed, already flagged with what's completed so they couldn't be reset farmed.
