hello, yesterday i was watching a small twitch streamer that was playing in a galleon. they were server hopping, then when they found a reaper 5 they went after it. when they sank the reaper, they harpooned all the loot and put it on the boat without touching it (they moved the harpoon all the way to the inside of the boat, then all the way up and then they let the loot drop on the boat). i noticed that in this case the loot didnt count as touched, so they went to reaper's hideout, put up the emissary flag and then touched all the loot to obtain a super quick rank 5 emissary and sell things at a major price. this has 2 big problems: first, people are supposed to see reaper emissary coming, in this case you dont see them on the map because they are not reaper emissary yet. second they minimize the risk of being seen on the map with all the loot on board because the raise the emissary flag on the reaper hideout and they immediatly start touching and selling. so, is this considered cheating or bannable in any way? if yes i can provide twithc vods and timestamp. thanks for help

I don’t think this is cheating, but definitely cheesing the game...shouldn't be possible!
Bannable or not, you should definitely write to support, with evidence...@m0zza3749 at the time I don't think this would be bannable, they aren't using outside software to pull it off and it is not considered abusive to other players. This is more like an undiscovered exploit for Rare which in the future might get patched like the raising and lowering of the flags away from the outposts were.
Thank you for bringing this up though, I am sure very few people knew about this and now a much larger audience will go about pulling it off.
In my view exploits that are intentionally used to directly harm the experience of others warrant possible consequences. This includes combat exploits that are removing the equal footing intentions of the devs.
Exploit like the one described isn't doing direct and intentional damage to others so it should be patched asap but isn't something a person should lose access for.
I don't make the rules or enforce them but my guess is that those that do have a someone similar code in mind when they are making those decisions.
The game has an alliance system where people regularly and significantly reduce risk for maximum reward built into the game. This means the effect of the action is similar to that of a feature that already exists within the game. That doesn't mean leave it, just means it's not doing enough damage to go after individuals. I don't think individuals should face consequences for doing a lesser version of it by themselves. I want to see it fixed but don't want to see anyone banned over it.
Rare has known about this exploit for a while now. A particular set of partners/streamers used to do it regularly and one asked Rare if they could create a how-to video featuring this exploit. Rare told them not to create or release that video and "kindly" requested that partners stop using this exploit on their streams. So it's something they are fully aware of. Hopefully it can be patched out soon.
@m0zza3749 I thought as soon as you harpoon something it automatically counts as touching it and putting it on your ship at the same time. So I'm not seeing how angling the harpoon to drop it on your ship a certain way would affect anything

I bet it’s the harpoon rowboat acting weird. If the rowboat attaches, all the loot in it counts as being on your ship but what if you harpoon and drop loot onto it whiles it’s already attached?

I would do this if I sank other ships. Gonna try it on floating loot bits & Megs, Krakens and Skelly ships. It would be easiest to do as Reaper but you could use this for the other factions too.
I'm still thinking that it would count as "touching the loot" when they harpoon it tho.

I tested this out yesterday and found that the loot doesn't count touched as long as you won't interact with it but let it drop on your deck from the harpoon. It will still count as having been put on your ship I think?
How we tested:
We had no emissary, sunk a athena g4, harpooned the loot and let it fall on deck (didn't touch any of it), voted for reapers, touched loot, got all the way to g5.

Why? Because I use sword lunge? You are aware that Rare themselfes statet, that they keep sword lunge in the game as a feature...
Edit: that was even said by them before the official launch 4 years ago...So it maybe started as an exploit in alpha or beta (not sure when exactly), but became a feature before release...

Still an exploit, they did nothing to make it a feature, they just... didn't patch it. So thus my point still stands. People like you still complain about Portal Hopping yet it was also made a feature by your logic.

i dont even know who you are. the streamer i mentioned has a completely different name from your and i didnt write anything in his chat. also, they weren't doing pve, they were server hopping to find reapers 5 emissary to sink
