Why is there fog in the distance?

  • I used to play the game a lot, and I loved that if I went up to my crow's nest, I could see super far away, and it was beautiful, now since I came back to the game there is this really ugly fog in this distance making the world look gloomy and horrid. please remove it so we can see the beautiful world that you guys made again.

  • @revezephos It was put in place so super high-end PC pirates couldn't take advantage of their vastly improved draw distance over those of their console brethren. For balance!

You get used to it. 😅😉

  • @galactic-geek Only one problem with that, and it is quite simple, they chose the inferior machine, why should my gameplay experience have to be ruined [mod edited]? Oh and that has no effect on balance whatsoever, because just because I can see their ship from farther away doesn't change the fact that they are still not within actionable distance, making ships have a shorter render distance would have had the same effect, oh and btw, the render distance is already shorter than the fog distance so that logic doesn't work either. They could have very easily added the death green whoosh particle effect to when a ship leaves render distance.

  • @revezephos Once you know where a ship is, you can watch it, spy on it, deduce what they're doing or where they're going, and follow it... It'd be like a free Reaper's Mark without the Reaper's Mark. Meanwhile, the other ship, with their inferior specs, would have no idea that you were even there. That's not balanced or fair. It's one thing if you legitimately sneak up or get the advantage over the other, but once it becomes about who has the better specs, then all fairness goes out of the window. A semblance of balance must be made!

Even if it isn't about the ships, it could easily be to better increase server performance. I know that, in Minecraft, worlds have a pretty far draw-distance; but in a Realm server, that distance is drastically reduced in order to maintain server-wide performance. Same idea.

  • Dont remove the fog. As solo player only i have used that fog many times to escape enemy brigatines and galleons.

  • @tawdryrook38879 He's not referring to the actual fog but the haze you see at longer distances

  • @galactic-geek Except you didn't actually read my response, the ships draw distance is already shorter than the fog, meaning ships disappear before they ever actually reach the haze, and they already have a system in place for draw distance of islands and such. Islands and even the ocean transform into basic polygons outside of a certain distance.

  • @tawdryrook38879 I am not referring to the world fog event that roams around like the storm, I am referring to the super ugly haze that is ever-present along the horizon obscuring the beauty of this game.

@galactic-geek Only one problem with that, and it is quite simple, they chose the inferior machine, why should my gameplay experience have to be ruined for their imbecility? Im really pleased you have a gaming pc.
However i wouldnt call people who dont have one imbeciles.

Its a bit snobbish dont you think?

  • @daringclarky Not at all, as a former console elitist, making the transition to pc was easily one of the best decisions I have ever made so far as improving my gameplay experience. I find it quite safe to say that I was being an imbecile up until the point that I purchased my pc. Many incredible memories on a console, believe me, but it simply can't compare. When I was on console I would stubbornly defend it without even knowing the strengths or limitations of the opposition, but I allowed 1 friend to convince me to give it a chance and now it is impossible for me to play on a console because it is simply horrendous. Terrible performance, terrible frame rate, and the visual are completely ruined. I will gladly admit that I was being imbecilic until I switched to pc. The main point of the argument is that the gameplay experience should not be handicapped for players with a better machine simply because some players have a weaker machine, it is detrimental to the gameplay experience as a whole. If that was gonna be how you built your game from the beginning then why even add graphics settings?

Former console elitist? Hardly. What platform you choose has no bearing on your attitude towards others - and while you may no longer be on console, you still see yourself as being above others, and continue to look down upon them simply because they choose differently. You have not changed in the slightest, nor have you learned how to be a better person, and for that reason, I truly feel sorry for you.

And for the record, I chose console because of its ease of use, social atmosphere, and distinct lack of cheaters - not because of graphics and speed. This alone shows that you have actually considered very little in the Grand scheme of things before choosing to belittle others. I suggest that you try to have a bit more of an open mind before responding so crudely.

As for the horizon, chalk it up to technological limitations, and either learn how to deal with it or move on. Oh, and you weren't handicapped; you were put on equal footing - say hi to balance for me on your way out!

  • @galactic-geek I see my machine as objectively better, that has nothing to do with myself or self-image. Stating the objective truth that my machine is better isn't looking down on someone nor does it say anything about what kind of person I am. Saying that you feel sorry for me is the definition of looking down on someone.

Console is not easier to use as you are drastically limited in what actions you are capable of performing, the game has the same social atmosphere regardless of system, and cheaters are punished just as quickly and harshly and truth be told much more frequently on pc, at least for games with an active development team. The fact that you decided to handicap your gameplay experience through choosing an inferior machine isn't my fault nor my problem, especially since we already know that the game is capable of performing well without said limitations and that the devs themselves acknowledge this via graphic settings.

For your last attempted point about technological limitations, we have already proved that that statement is false since:

    1. The game has already been playable for long periods of time without the haze.

    2. There are graphics settings in the game specifically designed around what different machines can handle.

    3. Ship draw distance is already vastly SHORTER than the draw distance of the haze.

    And last but not least

    1. Actionable distance is quite short as it is, meaning if you have any awareness whatsoever, even if a ship is tailing you from a distance you will be able to notice them and adjust your plans accordingly.

This is a PVP game, after all, getting hunted and attacked by another ship is part of the game.

So once again your logic doesn't stop the proverbial boat from sinking. Balance has nothing to do with seeing another ship because with or without the haze if I can see you then you can also see me unless I am hiding my ship with the terrain and out strategizing you.

  • @revezephos Specifically Addressing point #1, it is true that the game could run it in the past, but as time has gone on, things were added, like an entire region, for example - and that can and likely would have affected performance had nothing been done about it.

As for the rest of your argument, I don't really care anymore, as I'm perfectly fine with the haze, and can spot ships from far enough away. This whole thing is YOUR problem; not mine.

  • @galactic-geek The devil's roar was added without adding the haze so that doesn't hold water either. If you don't care to say anything other than "BALANCE!!!!" which I already disproved then quit wasting my and others' time who are actually interested in this discussion and go back to your inferior machine.

Bye-Bye, can't wait to sink ya again.

  • @revezephos
Better to be inferior than a 🤬 💩.

I only came in here to offer suggestions as to why, and all you've done is belittle me at every turn while trying to disprove me. Why? What exactly is the point? Does it make you feel better? 🤔

    Oh, and BALANCE! 😏

  • @galactic-geek I never belittled you, you did, however, attempt to belittle me by stating that you feel sorry for me and calling me a piece of feces.

You offered suggestions, yes, but this is a forum, a place of discussion, if you don't like someone responding to your attempts to join the discussion then that is your problem.

The point is to work towards a better solution than what is currently in the game which you are defending (quite arrogantly I might add) with no actual constructive feedback other than "Oh, my system can't handle the game at max settings so everyone has to have the same garbage settings as me! HUR HUR HUR"

So, unless you are going to actually add to the discussion in an intelligent manner I recommend you go back to your inferior machine.

    Sunk again.

  • @revezephos You just called my settings garbage when I have no settings to speak of (cause console) and are acting as though you're better than me by telling me how many times you sunk me. Really? I'm done with you. Get blocked.

  • @galactic-geek You are on my post and have contributed nothing, so yes you have been sunk, I really don't care if you are done, once again, you are on my post, blocking me means literally nothing.

Bye, try again with someone else.

  • Okay, despite the warning this has continued to be uncivil. Shutting the thread down.
