People are kinda going crazy over issues like "THE GAME WON'T HAVE ENOUGH CONTENT, ITS GONNA DIE" but even if we have seen most of the content, thats not a problem. Even if we have seen most of the things to do, it is just the base day 1 level of things you can do. The quests have been simple and we know there will be many variations as you progress through the trading companies. Basically we've seen what a starter player can do in each company, not any mid level or legendary player quests. And if you're still not convinced you can think of the game like an arena shooter. Take Overwatch for example. Even though the game is pretty lacking content wise, people play it still after 2 years because its not only overall fun but they run events to keep things interesting. We know for a fact that Rare plans to do similar things so I wouldn't expect things to go stale. On top of that they already have content updates planned so the things you can do will only increase. So why don't we all stop complaining and just enjoy the game? I mean we all had fun in the betas right?
Why A Lack Of Content Wouldn't Matter
@captainkawaii12 I'd like to completely agree with you, but I don't.
There's more and more games coming out in the form of beta, and people are fine with it but yet they aren't, which causes a lot of experimental gameplay and months for more content.
Still these companies make good money while presenting an unfinished game, good for them, but for players it might start to wear on them before the game actually gets finished and that way a lot of people are already lost to different games which is bad for the community, granted they might come back again later yet they still have been dissapointed and got introduced to other games in the meanwhile.
To prevent things like that to happen more content would be useful.I love the game as it is and was in the beta's, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see more to it.
It shouldn't only be about pvp, yes it can be the main focus, no it shouldn't be the only thing they focus on.
Fishing, a form of safezone (I don't need one, but I do see the appeal), certain creatures, more types of costumizations, possibly more ships and/or different proportions per ship along with new ships, etc.
What's wrong with having a wishlist for the players?I do agree on the just sit back and relax part, just not on the part were this is all there is going to be for the next 3 months, cause I know I'll have every cosmetic I need within 2 weeks and I don't want the game to get boring cause everything is already starting to wear on you (same few songs, same types of quests, no different activities like gambling or minigames that can keep one occupied, etc.) and then only play for a month more before I'm more interested in another game.
Don't get me wrong, really please don't, this game has had me counting days for a few weeks now like as I did when I was a little kid...
I love it, all the way, the adventure, the social part of the game, the pvp part, I love them all.
Still I believe improvement would do the game good.@slinkierdisc667 Well Rare isn't giving us a unfinished game. Some people just think it is because they don't think we have enough to do. And theres nothing wrong for having a wish list but it's important to realize that not only do we still not know whats actually going to be in the game (its could literally be a ton of stuff but who knows?) but Rare has actually acknowledged many of the things players want to see and said they have plans for a lot of it. I think the issues are coming from players expecting things to be in the game while rare as busy adding other things into the game
@captainkawaii12 I do definitly hope they'll surprise us with some unspoiled options in the game.
I already knew of a few that would be coming, and it wasn't much change, so I truly hope it's not all there is to it.
Also I heard there would be updates per 3 months, which isen't a lot, also something I'm being cautious of.
I just want to be able to love this game the way I do now for years to come instead of months, which they already did a good job on but I just see room for more options is all.The more the game has content, the more people lack of imagination. I think we could make an equation of this maybe. Take Minecraft for example: it was a huuuge success with waaay less content than now. But people had ideas, they helped to push the game further, and didn't stopped to what it was at launch.

Overwatch never lacked content, neither on release, even less now.
But yes, I agree with you, this is a pure sandbox, if the mechanics are good and they work fast and smooth with updates, events and community management, this is just the start of a wonderful travel.
One could argue it critically lacks of PVE content. It's been asked for since first Junkenstein event. Just a side note.
@eph1zul Other game, other purposes, and the crew/technology wasn't the same. That don't change the fact that when the game was still in alpha/beta people didn't limit themselves to make something with it while they only had stone, dirt and wood, no goal nor any progression, at that time.

Overwatch is a PvP game, to ask stuff that makes not sense is absurd. Junkestein and Uprising are the proof that PvE is not so interesting like the PvP game, most of us played them just to get the weekly lootboxes.
Overwatch is an example for SoT, the vision of the game is the important key for sucess, not to add checklists. SoT is PvPvE, Overwatch is PvP, they are great like this, PvE for Overwatch is just a waste of developers time.
@captainkawaii12 Im going to be upset if their content update is a paywall so I cant get a cat in a game I paid £50 for
@uvg-reign You won't be able to get a cat unless you pay for it. At least for now.
But future content updates(DLC) is free, at least for now.@uvg-reign Well I don't expect (in the case of pets) to have a pay wall of anymore than a few dollars

@lobofh It was just a side note, it is not irrelevant for if it has been introduced and is part of the game, it can be accounted for. PVE being a waste of time or not is merely an opinion since I can just state that it isn't. But again, side note. Let's agree on the following:
I do agree about the vision. As to checklists ... That be another term for roadmap. They will be much like OW in the sense that they'll be secretive for long term but very open about short term stuff.
@uvg-reign You buy the game and get the DLC/content updates for free.
I do however believe it'll depend on their Microtransaction sales. If the game stops earning revenue, content updates will drop.@captainkawaii12 said in Why A Lack Of Content Wouldn't Matter:

like your generic mobile game, which are free to play ...

Yes, with checklists I mean that some AAA developers have added content that made not sense or low quality just to fill checklists: "our game needs singleplayer, multiplayer, progression, microtransactions and lootboxes, no matter what", and sometimes some of those parts are garbage or nobody plays them one week later.
Battlefield was a multiplayer only franchise, with BF3 and BF4 they released two lackluster campaigns just because, well, CoD had it so we need it. Multiplayers like Bioshock 2, Dead Space 2, Assassin's Creed (arguable), Tomb Raider, Spec Ops the Line, etc: waste of developers time.
Sometimes it works, i.e.: TitanFall 2's campaign is simply awesome, but usually when a game knows its strenght and sticks with its vision more is not always better, Bethesda's games don't need PvP to be awesome and popular, Overwatch was a sucess with no campaign, etc.
@uvg-reign Yeah but theses are not things that will help you do better in the game, to compare it to a mobile game would be to say it's pay to win, and its not
@captainkawaii12 Its not a free game and it isnt pay to win. So that make microtransactions ok then.
@uvg-reign Microtransactions are not innately bad, they become bad why the game forces you to buy them to do certain required things. Rare has said the things you can buy will be completely optional.
I think it matters because you're going to be dumping $$$$ money into a product and you're going to hope to the gods they deliver the content you want, it's why I've always said the 2 week trial on gamepass is going to be a blessing for a lot of people.
and RARE knows those few that are holding back are going to need to be impressed with what they see ..so its going to be itneresting to see what kind of "Emergent" content they have.
@captainkawaii12 We'll have to wait and see if they pets or anything else can be earned, becuase a paywall isnt optional, its locked content.
I'm of the opinion that the people who complain about a "lack of content" fall into two camps: those who haven't done their research about the full release of the game and those who insist that there must be a strict and very-well defined tree of progression to follow in order to make a game worth playing.
The former is just uninformed, and I don't want to start a firestorm by using any stronger descriptors, and the latter woefully shortsighted.
@chosen-predator Well thats what I'm thinking, Rare knows people are skeptical so they would want to hold back on giving out everything right?
As they said during Reddit's AMA event:
I think we're only ever likely to cover a few months ahead to maintain mystery (so you can be surprised and delighted) and so we can be reactive. Things will change as Sea of Thieves evolves. We want to have the time to reveal what the features mean for players before we put them in their hands. We've taken a show not tell policy for the entire project so far and we're committed to that.
Generic mobile games dont take 5 years and millions of dollars to make. I know I've made some mobile games. Your 60 dollars gives you unlimited access to servers, years of dev time, and free updates. Now that's a steal at 60 honestly when renting servers isn't cheap. Then if you like the game and feel like supporting the developers who have been giving you free updates. Buy the cat, say thank you for the free content you got after the game released. Your 60 dollars are in no way going towards the future updates. Optional dlc let's the players decide when and if they want to support thier hobby more. If you want it to stay afloat then by all means support them. If not then dont.

I imagine content update to be like in gta online with the release of heists for people to play an adventure. Hopefully implementing new gimmicks on each quest
@starquest Yeah games do cost millions to make, they also make hundreds of millions in return. Im sure I could stretch that much money to have at least one hot meal a day, you know ...
The initial purchase price or the gamepass income, the xbox live income (those not on pc), all the gift shop tat theyre selling. And what im concerned about, the possibility of a paywall on top.
Im looking forward to this game, and like others also have concerns. Not like some people who have a cult mentality where they believe any shovel fed bs becuase 'rare'.
Unnecessary paywalls for greed get under my skin.
@uvg-reign I guess I'm just missing the point of complaining about paying a few dollars for a optional item

Missing the point about paying for a game to have to pay for it again
