Playing since beta...Here is my obligatory list of suggestions!

  • Hey Fellow Sea Dogs,

My wife and I have been playing this game since the first beta, and we love it. While the game isn't perfect, we definitely think the experience and the community is just tremendous (griefers excluded x_x), and we love it! We have both just recently hit level 40 and we felt it was finally time to share our suggestions for improvement, without altering the core of the game. Sorry if there are any repeats, I haven't read much of the forums yet, so all of this is just stuff we thought of while sailing around, getting into trouble.

    Overall Game Suggestions:

    • A fishing system would be amazing (nets and/or rods), possibly even crabbing. Potentially opening up another faction/alliance to earn rep with (this is the only one I'm SURE other people have said).
    • Bird nets as well could be a fun mechanic, since they seem to be flying around just about everywhere (not including wrecks).
    • Schools of jelly fish that sting you similar to the way snakes do.
    • Diving for pearls in the reefs could be a cool new mechanic
    • Some sort of dock tethering system for perfect parking, we don't settle for anything less than perfection.
    • The ability to put your belts under your jacket. Some of the belt aesthetics just seems strange being over your coat.
    • The ability to bury your weak chests on islands, that appreciate in value over time...but can then be found by other players on gold hoarder missions...so be careful!
    • Skeletons should drop loot. Not all of them every time, and not crazy loot, but an example would be 1-5 gold coins (to mitigate farmers), a banana/wood/cannonball, or even one ammo pellet.
    • It would be cool if you could build campfires on islands, as a way to gather a fleet of allies, or even just chill between voyages. It should cost like 20-40 each of bananas/wood/cannonballs, replete with chairs and grog!
    • What if you could "hit" with the shovel. It should NOT do any damage, but maybe a slight pushback, or minimal stun. It could potentially add a new exciting layer to the combat mechanic. Those skeletons are on you the second you start digging!
    • What if there were giant sea turtles or dolphins that could give you a quick (1-3 second) speed boost while in the water? It shouldn't be too common, but it could be a fun mechanic. I mean who doesn't want to ride on a dolphin???

    Server Suggestions:
Sometimes it is impossible to do anything when there are just galleons everywhere. Not saying we haven't taken down our fair share of galleons with our two-sailor sloop team, but sometimes they chase you for what seems like hours.

    • My suggestion is possibly a server density preference? Not PvP vs PvE. If people want a PvE specific server, then they are playing the wrong game, plain and simple. But perhaps low, medium, and high population options could help supplement for those of us that do like to be friendly.
    • Loot grace period for disconnecting? Either on our end or theirs. It just sucks losing 25+ items after a few hours and then you get that beard error.

    Ship Suggestions:

-- Faction Specific Upgrades (all of these would require a minimum reputation level, and cost a fortune) --

    • Merchant Alliance
-Purchasable music box (like the one in the tavern) that you can play to keep snakes chill on your ship. It would cost A LOT (50k-100k??)
-Purchasable automatic pig-feeder banana crate. You get the idea.
    • Gold Hoarders
-Purchasable trap door for hiding chests on your ship
    • Order of Souls
-Purchasable ward that lowers the glow of your most valuable skulls. Presently there isn't anywhere you can hide a villainous skull on a sloop that doesn't glow to other ships.
-Purchasable, mobile ammo crate (but if you leave it behind you have to repurchase)

    -- Various Ship Upgrades --

    • Ship pets would be awesome. Obviously these would be non-combat animals. But the ability to buy various (and also faction specific) pets would be so cool.
Example would be a parrot that just flies around the ship, landing on random bannisters and things. Cats, dogs, rats, pigs, chickens, snakes!
    • Themed ships hulls and sails: For example a bilge rat themed hull would have more leather strapping holding seemingly rotted boards together, the sails would be tattered and stained.
Sea Dog Ship (associated with OoS) would have similar aesthetic to the inside of the faction tent (misc skulls and things scattered. Weapons and skeletons scattered on the walls etc.
Admiral ship (MA) could have random crates all over the ship. It should look like a trading vessel.
Sovereign ship (GH) could have shovels, open chests, and gold piles all over the place. It should look like an exploratory vessel.

Ok, so that is our initial list after playing for a few months. We absolutely love this game so I'm sure I will be adding to this list as time goes on. We would love some feedback from the community!

  • I love a lot of these suggestions.

I'm still of the mind that we need another option for destroying ships from the inside instead of barrels, like using the shovel to pull off repaired damage to the hull. I think that would be better then having the shovel stun..

Added cool things to make the gameplay easier would be nice.. but they've already stated that they don't want anything that you have to purchase to make the game easier. This creates an uneven playing field.

I think more could be explored with the magic.. I think it would be nice that say, if your whole crew started banging the drum, you could call Megan or the kraken. Megan could attack you, or maybe attack an enemy ship chasing you.

Other improvements I'd like to see is being able to buy banana crates, cannonball crates, or even those kind of missions from merchants alliance. I think those crates are just too rare.

I think it would be good if they removed the ability to stack chests and items on top of each other and through walls. I think having limited storage space on the boat itself could bring a balance to the game to allow for more dynamic crew sizes per boat.

  • @puck269 Oh yes! Banana/wood/cannonball crates for purchase would be so great. Even just for loading up your ship. In terms of the ship upgrades I mentioned that would make the game easier, I forgot to mention that those would only be available for that play session. Meaning, it wouldn't be a one-time purchase. So if you feel up to forking over 50-100k for that voyage then you get the benefit of not having to feed your own pigs. Something like that that still maintains balance, but offers more incentive to spend your gold.

The idea of using the shovel as a crowbar is AWESOME. I did not think of that. Great suggestion!
