Console + PC Crossplay: An Easy Fix

  • The only way to fix it is to add an option to turn it off. Whoever wants to play with disadvantage is more than welcome to do so, but the rest of us should be able to opt out.

@eddythecaptain U Know Xbox players can get a mouse and keyboard also right

Currently you would need third-party hardware like a Xim4, which actually doesn't feel as smooth as a mouse with all its firmware and dedicated software for windows.

I don't understand, I'm going through this OP's post thinking I'll find some better insight or a better method of alleviating the issues, but he's pretty much in step with every other thread on this matter.

The whole point of this thread is for optional crossplay. Most other threads have no idea what the difference between Xbox and PC really is.

Also to add, because I'm getting annoyed with this opening statement now, If I see "I'm an PC player and..." or "I own the game on both platforms but..." if you have any variation of that line in one of these threads again I'm just clicking away immediately in the future. No one cares that you own it on some certain platform because you're using it as a linchpin to show you're some sort of authority on the matter.

The only reason I brought that up is for people to understand that im not just some random Xbox user complaining about getting destroyed in PvP. I do the destroying. This game is too easy for me, and thats why I made this post.

I live in Australia, so asking that I have to be teamed up with people who're in Australia who're also using a PC version of the game, well to be honest it'd kill the game and the non-existent population in my area, I'd be forced to quit because I wouldn't have barely anyone to play with anymore.

I know and play with PLENTY of aussie PC players on SOT. Take FORTNITE for example. Optional crossplay, not dead. Fortnite had the same FORCED crossplay as SOT in the beginning, and they had to swap to OPTIONAL because they realize how well it works.

  • @eddythecaptain my Xbox one x loads me into any game faster than my two friends who play pc, even beating my buddies rig he was pulling 200+fps.

  • @ryz-argos Doesn't matter how much FPS they get.

Load times are determined by your hard drive. I currently use an NVMe SSD, and this hardware isn't supported by Xbox. (That I know of.)

I posted a video on the difference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzbZSD_svrM

  • @burtlangoustine said in Console + PC Crossplay: An Easy Fix:

@cpt-toothpick When xbox players load slower, respawn slower, turn slower and have no macro commands to spam then yes, PC players RULE Sea of Thieves and its not fun: The Console was always about achieving a a 'level playing field' for casual gaming.

Xbox players are literally lambs to the slaughterhouse. People who dismiss this fact are wasting time on here commenting.
I'll personally continue to play SOT on xbox, but play knowing PC crew are deadly and ultimately unstoppable given the list of limitations placed on Xbox users.

What macro keys are you thinking about, I can't see my self putting up any specific macros that I could use for this game, But if you talking about that we have for example 3-9 on the keyboard to put all our stuff on or use our letters on the keyboard to bind shovels clocks and bananas to it etc, then thats just called binding keys :P macros are when you put in multiple commands in to a single buttonpress ^^

I do agree with you tho about the lambs to the slaughter tho, but thats not specific to PC users. But more or less to what we use to controll the game with, we have options, consoles have none.

To compare the 2 is like comparing superman to a human one have options and the other have none :P

It doesn't matter how big the market is. Multiple companies like Steam and Nvidia and even Sony are currently working on streaming solutions for games, meaning that if your internet connection is good enough, you can play a game that is being rendered at a different location, for example by some Nvidia super computer. If working correctly, this will disrupt the gaming market, especially the console market. Consoles as we know them right now will cease to exist, or drastically change to some sort of open platform for streaming services. PCs will follow eventually, but since they are useful outside of gaming, they will probably stick around longer.
This is a good thing, btw. It will eliminate all these system wars and the only difference between players would be their internet connection and what kind of streaming package they buy, because I could see different qualities for different price, like a HD package vs a 4k package.
Consoles will likely survive for another one or two generations because of emerging markets and because many countries are really bad at developing their internet infrastructure, but technology like mobile Internet and even blockchain could disrupt this too.
Just imagine every smartphones having some sort of Nvidia chip that is used to render parts of videogames for players all over the world, or whatever.

In the long run, gaming will become more accessible and affordable, as is already the trend since its inception. Eventually, it won't be profitable to develop dedicated gaming platforms (consoles) anymore, so they will slowly disappear, along with exclusives and all the other bad things they brought to gaming. This is good, because we won't even need crossplay anymore, because everyone will be playing on more or less identical systems. But we absolutely need crossplay to get there to prove that the gaming community can wants to grow to one community instead of staying divided along the lines of their preferred system.
Well at least that's my hope and prediction for the future, based on observing current trends and innovations in computer graphics and game development.

  • @nebenkuh
It doesn't matter what is being worked on, what is being speculated etc.
Home consoles are here to stay m8.
Your opinion is bigoted & 1 sided, so not really much point in listening to your drivel anymore!
PC M*********e c**p is just ridiculous!

  • @logansdadtoo
    Great argument, very mature.
I didn't realise my opinion/wish of gamers coming together as one community instead of being divided by their preferred box of outdated hardware was bigoted. Thank you so much for pointing that out!

  • @nebenkuh
    No problem!
All your responses are how PC's are better & that consoles are c**p & dying out, so why bother having a serious discussion about it!
You seem convinced that because of your PC superiority complex & because something is being worked on that it is going to come to fruition & will take over gaming!!
Just like 3d has taken over TV.
Or driver less cars have taken over the road.
Game streaming services may well become a thing, but saying they will kill home consoles is just a pathetic argument!
    Good day!

  • The PC v Xbox p****g contest was old and boring even before it started, just accept people spend their money and makes their choice of what they want to play on.

  • @logansdadtoo
Everything I said is factually true tho, all these things are being worked on with huge progress that is only speeding up. Just look at video streaming services today. Driverless cars are already being tested on actual roads all over the world too. Nvidia showed a demo of realtime raytracing a few weeks ago, do you even know what kind of breakthrough that is? You just go 'nuh uh you're wrong!' without even an explanation as to why. How can you even take it personal? I even said PC will eventually follow along and die out too. Hell, there are offices and even CG studios that do not even have physical computers, just virtual ones that run on some giant sever hidden away in some vault. People have always said that whatever was the current tech was here to stay, be it horse carriages, VHS, whatever. Even telephones are being replaced by tiny computers. Just accept it.
Don't you think it would be great if maybe in 10 years you could just pair your smartphone to your TV, load up a stream of SoT2 with your Microsoft Store App on that phone, and play with whatever input device you want, also paired to that phone?
How can you even be so salty with tech like this on the horizon?

  • @cnt-thelrox Yea I definitly missunderstood you're post earlier and felt attacked for defending the optional crossplay. (As you can see I also got a bit heated yesterday, for a certain person got under my skins 2 days in a row now... It got me into trouble to try and put some sense in him while losing my temper... Think my brain wasn't cooled down enough yet. =þ)
But I got it right now, and I totally agree with you!
I've been posting in crossplay topics a few times now and all I get are aggressive people that don't even properly read but keep trying to make me sound like a whiny little baby without actual good input or reasoning, bringing up the weakest excuses to keep it forced. (Serverpopulation and the ability to buy mouse and keyboard for console being the most common ones)
If it stays like this I agree that gimping them is a great way to let them feel what it's like.
Though I do still believe optional crossplay is the best solution, they should either compromise or get c******r pc versions, that's a great ultimatum! (I too am fed up with this subject)

And again, my apologies for misunderstanding.
Also, thanks for the compliment! :D (Don't get those much on the internet, hehe.. =þ)

  • @drunkpunk138 It's true, but it shouldn't become a pay2win experience either. So I hope they don't go to far with the consoles... (Edit: Make them better for sure! But don't have 5 different types of xbox's on the market. I can't afford a Xbox One X Enhanced for example, they'll probably have some advantages over my Xbox One S, it's still not comparable to the difference on a pc though.)

  • @mindarchitect They want to keep their advantages. They don't compromise.

They can keep their advantages and smooth experiences but only with optional cross-play.
If they wanna keep the totalitarian version of cross-play then they should get handicapped.

    It just seems fair.

Most of them don't even know what 'optional' means lol.
Its always funny to me when they think that we want to remove cross-play entirely.

  • pls Rare just put a option for "search crossplay/no crossplay" in this Game

  • There's some more:

    • on pc you can hear game chat while being in a private group chat. This gives massive advantage in the battle. You can hear the enemies but they can't hear you.
    • montly subscription required on xbox to play, on pc not, that's why some pc folks are keen on trying out cheats on dummy accounts. Some cheats are undetectable.
      -text chat on pc.
  • @captain-surgee said in Console + PC Crossplay: An Easy Fix:

Any idiots who decide to use these "undetectable" cheats will be banned eventually. Yes you can cheat. You can cheat in every game, as long as you don't get caught. We will see how long it takes for these cheaters to get caught, if they haven't been caught already.

  • @eddythecaptain

seeing stuff further out, my pc buddies can see ships before I can

Easy to look around while using ladder, anchor, sails etc, consol has to hold it the direction they want to view pc doesn't

Ability to monitor game chat while also having their private chat

  • @eddythecaptain

Thank you for posting this, it is nice to see intelligent support for optional cross play, especially from a PC player.

In your post you mentioned Rare’s imposed sensitivity restrictions on console. I would just like to add that even if they allowed limitless sensitivity on console, there is still a limit when using a controller, too high sensitivity and we won’t be able to aim at all. The way your post is worded suggests the issue is with Rare’s restrictions, not the restrictions of controllers versus a mouse. Perhaps you could add to your post the aiming limitations?

Although I would like more options to have higher sensitivity on console, it can’t hurt.

  • @nebenkuh said in Console + PC Crossplay: An Easy Fix:

    @i-am-lost-77
But racing a Mustang is not an option. The only option is to buy a Lambo or race the Lambo in your Mustang.

No see that’s the beauty you don’t have to do either of those because you get to choose and the third choice is not to race at all. And now no one street races anymore.

But behold optional cross play is introduced and all the people complaining are in their Xbox only world and everyone else is still playing cross play and everyone is happy. More money for Rare and more content Hoooray!

  • With the new sniper rifle buff Xbox players are now at an extreme disadvantage to pc players... it's insane how fast a good pc player can aim, shoot you with a sniper and then switch to a pistol and shoot again... i died in literally less than 2 seconds several times today playing against pc players..... being someone who has logged easily over 100 hours on the seas on console i can say that there is a definite need for seperate severs
