I'll say it again.... Battle Royale would be HUGE

  • @tedakin we don't need another battle royale game. There's such a thing as market saturation. If you want a battle royale you got plenty of options to choose from; PubG, Fortnite, The Culling, and there's a new monster hunting one out too. Even Blizzard has hinted they're working on a battle royale game.

Sea of Thieves does not need a BR mode. What it needs is additional content for the core game. Fishing, gambling, bounty hunting, more than just 3 fetch quests, world bosses, etc...

  • If it would take away further development off the core game, it's a no for me. While it would be a very unique battle royale game, SoT overall is a more unique experience to me. The competitive BR scene gets stale fast in my opinion & why try to compete with fortnite, Pubg, & the 100 other BR coming this year (exaggerated). I appreciate the Rare teams vision of SoT, I hope they keep following that & we will be here to help them find the perfect mix for the SoT community.

  • @tedakin nope!

  • Battle Royale in a sea doesn't make any sense at all. Circles shrinking shouldn't be a thing. Pirates are supposed to search for riches and make their living, not fighting to the death.

If you noticed in any pirate movies, in the beginning of the movie you would hear any new rumors by any locals that knew any of the urban legend stories, owns a partial map but the map is missing that other players have. They would have to work together or their treasure is lost forever without a completed map. Once they find a treasure together, they have a choice, fight to the death or share the loots. This is a type of pirate it should be made along with 3 factions.

Match-making would go like this: in any of 4 gallons and/or 8 sloops with 24 players would start the game and each outpost has its own urban legend for a certain assignments but needing other players to complete the riddles and/or steal their map in a captain cabin. Finding a treasure would gain experience points, building up the reps. Each server would have their own stories to tell and at end of the assignment, a new treasure needs to be found and players would work together or fight for that specific treasure.

So therefore, the idea of battle royale is overrated in any vision that the developer may have. Fight for one certain loot is worth more exp. points than any skull forts or 3 factions altogether and it should be more of an event once every two hours. Once that event ends, the pirate would go their normal voyage to gain more points but events should be all about working together if they want and could share any exp. points or keep all points to themselves by killing their enemies.

In the beginning of the game, each outpost, a gallons and 2 sloops would get a stories or map that is partial from a local tavern but they are competing against each other from same outpost at the beginning of session but they also need some help from other online player that spawns at different outpost to complete their mission. I think that this type of idea would be huge. Something different than an usual battle royale idea.

  • That one time I wanted to play a new and original game but all the MMO, RPG and Battle Royale players trying their best to [mod edited] it up.

Sea of Thieves is Sea of Thieves, please stop forcing your favorite game type onto it.

  • @tedakin
Sounds like a nice idea for a completely different game. Wouldnt work for sea of thieves, as it goes against the ethos of the game

  • I have feeling Rare developed the game to run servers efficiently with only 20 or so people per server. I think they've programmed themselves into a corner in that the system would slow down or become unplayable with more players on the server.

  • @tedakin said in I'll say it again.... Battle Royale would be HUGE:

There'd be nothing like it in the gaming market and would explode. 25-50 ships in one big sea. Floating barrels with supplies and some tiny islands to restock. Random storms, etc. It would be massive and original..... and I don't believe that hard to put together.

Rare and MS should at least consider the potential of what they have here.

This isn’t fortnite. It is an open world pirate game. I rest my case.

  • It would be a HUGE mistake. Go play fortnite or pubg if that's what you're looking for.

there other game with that mode called fortnite and PUBG plus ever few hours i'm in a battle royale at a skeleton fort

  • @trenix90 Which is why you think they're bad* Considering how massively popular they all are and how the genre has exploded.

  • Lol... people love to say SoT is a pirate game, go play another game. Well, hate to say this, but then SoT isn't a pirate game. There never was a kraken, and no pirate has ever fought a kraken. A squid maybe, but definitely not a kraken that can wrap its tentacles around a s**t. So, I guess it's not a pirate game, but a fantasy game.

  • I totally agree with you it would destroy the original game. Look at epic games and fortnite they made battle Royal mode and made it free to play. And it's killed the original game they've even moved some of there developers if not all the development team to battle royal mode cos its a cash cow and there been greedy till the bubble burst and everybody moves on to the next big thing then epic games will be stuck

  • Why does everyone want to make every game into battle royal these days there are titles that do this already if that's the experience you want why not play them.

  • I can see this being a mod to the game, an not change the core SoT. What I don't understand is the OP made a suggestion which seems to say he thinks having a pirate themed BR game, such with the mechanics of SoT pirate ship fighting, and people say SoT is not intended to be played that way and to go play a completely different game like Fortnite. So Fortnite is pirate themed and has ship battles? Why would you suggest that to the OP? That's like someone saying "I'd like to see more mini games in SoT," and someone saying, "SoT isn't meant like that, go play Candy Crush." Yeah, because SoT is so similar to Candy Crush? lol..... I think SoT can be very successful with variations, like mods, but still keeping the core SoT game for those people who want to only play what the feel is the intention of SoT. Expand it with mods. How can you go wrong except expand player base?

  • @tedakin NO, they have potential to create an incredible PIRATE SANDBOX EXPLORATION GAME, which could be completely unique. Battle royale has already been done. Boring. And that isn't what this game is about.

lol...why create a box of a game with no wiggle room by sticking with the mantra "That isn't what this game is about?" Expand the horizons and expand the game. Lots of spin-offs have been successful in games. I can't see why a BR game using the SoT mechanics can't be fun. Oh this isn't what it's about apparently. lol.. that's very restrictive thinking imo.

  • Go back to pubg the idea of battle royals isn’t original
    Fortnite
    Pubg
    The Darwin project
    H1Z1
    Ark survival of the fittest
    The culling
    Last man standing
    Unturned
    Dying light
    Rust
    Garry’s mod battle royal
And don’t forget you favourite game Minecraft hunger games
    So real original

  • @buckshot-matt Yes, ok you're right. However at least give this game a chance to grow before suggesting an entirely new gamemode? The game has been out less than a month turning it into BR is hardly what the game needs right now. We are lacking a bit of content as it is, let this game grow and maybe when it is a solid game in a couple of years extra gamemodes can be considered.

I absolutely agree with that. Can't argue with that. :)

  • I don't like the idea of Battle Royale as a separate game type. I think that would ruin the atmosphere of the game however i could imagine some sort of event that may occur in a rather small area in the map which you could enter but not leave again until all other ships are defeated with a juice price for the last one standing.

  • Battle royale would bring in a whole new player base that wouldn't play the base game anyway. Sales and gameplay time would skyrocket.

  • @tedakin not every game needs to have a battle royale mode now jesus

  • @tedakin No

  • How would more battle royale be original?

  • The people that want to play the core game can just play the core game. I'm telling you it would make sea of thieves off the charts popular

  • of course they need to dial in the base game before ever considering this, but after that why the heck not? world of warships already has mapped out the footprint for it, and the AWESOME storm mechanics make the "closing circle" easy and fun to create. people that want pvp would flock to this mode. it could be done in a team mode (like WoW) or in a last ship standing mode.

  • No, just... no.

Everything about Sea of Thieves is about being different then other games. Rare choices on purpose for example not to incorporate a deep and large progression system because they don't want Sea of Thieves to be just another Destiny or The Division. The whole idea of Sea of Thieves is to be different and to be a open world, sandbox and "make your own story"-game. Making a Battle Royale mode would mean they are jumping on a hype train and this is deffintly going against their own filosofy of being different and making something unique.

  • @ler YUR HAWT, PLAY SOT WITH ME (ninjah 003)
no space-I put it in there so admins wouldn't block my gt

  • @tedakin If you want a battle royale game go play pubg or fortnite or something on your phone but SoT is not meant to be an battle royale game absolutely not

  • battle royale is nothing but some trashy band-wagon trend

  • @tedakin

  • Original you say? In what way? With the market floded with Battle Royale games you want them to make SoT another BR game? Sit down and take a chill pill

  • I'm in favor of some type of relatively small PVP-area in some corner of the map. Some kind of zone for the most nasty and ruthless pirates to duke it out and claim their dominance. But nothing that would force itself on players who aren't interested. The idea in general is cool but the worry is what it does to the playerbase and how/if it interests uninterested players

  • @tedakin I would absolutly love a BR mode, but last ship standing rather than last man. So if your ship sinks youre gone, but your ships alive, you can respawn. Kinda like skull forts are now and the best part of the game
