Spawn Rate for Rare Beast Ridiculous

  • My 5 friends and I have collectively spent hundreds of hours since September doing nothing in this game except going to common Meg spawns and waiting for an hour, repeatedly, sometimes for 12 hour days on weekends. We do this at least a little every evening. It's not fun, it doesn't feel special, there's no excitement to it.

We have seen hundreds of megs together, but we have had 0 opportunities to fight the Shrouded Ghost. And it is quite literally the last thing I have left to accomplish in this game. After 5500 hours of me playing the game, seeing it ONCE WHEN I WAS NEW, and not killing it because I didn't know any better. Isn't that a little ridiculous?

The arbitrary spawn rate does not make it special. If you think that's how it work, just increase the rarity infinitely and see how much more special it gets. go for 1 in 700,000 why don't you. The reality is there's a Goldilocks spot between too common to be special and too rare to be worth caring about, and it is way over the latter line.

With the pain and tedium that this entails, if I even found it, there would be a brief moment of elation that would immediately vanish and be replaced by "I can't believe I spent x hours of my life sitting around rolling a 1 out of 7000 die 7000 times across 7000 hours."

This is not fun or adventurous. It is just silly. As Reggie Fils-Aimé once said, "If it's not fun, why do it?" I don't care that WoW or whatever other game have ludicrously rare white whales either. I don't care that you read Moby D|ck in your 8th grade ELA class. It's not that deep. It's a random number generator set irritatingly high, and it's making my last moments in this game miserable. To the point where I'm thinking of quitting the game early and forgetting I ever tried completionist-ing it.

Even if I finished everything in the game, I might consider coming back to it ... if I hadn't had so many moments like this grinding out 250 repetitive reaper voyages ... "complete 100 Legend of the Veils!" This is just a more extreme example of "keep people here by making number go up really high," and that's just not engaging. The PvP purists have a point, the real way to enjoy this game was to just go sailing around fighting as many people as possible and ignoring anything else. Instead I'm spending 12 hour weekends watching a tv show on one monitor while spinning my boat around in a circle over and over on the other.

  • So...what your saying is.
You dont like the mystery of the unknown, and when you do once achieve it, you wont feel any Thrill. Because as you said, you spend majority of your gaming time, Doing one single thing. Hunting for a Legend.

Your choice of how you play mind you, and some how...THAT is the games fault?

    You are doing it wrong.
There's streamers who have tens of thousands of hours played and haven't met the Shrouded Ghost.

Play the game and see what happens.
Why torture yourself and desperately HOPE it spawns.

It's not fun, it doesn't feel special, there's no excitement to it.

You are the one that decided to do this and seemingly CONTINUE to do it.

  • @zaleravon You know you can just.. not do that

You don't have to get the shrouded ghost

Maybe play the game instead of slaving away as if it's a job

  • If it's not fun, why keep doing it? Find a new game. You need to kill it 5 times BTW, so you aren't going to get that lucky considering you've seen it once in 5500 hours.

  • The shrouded ghost is not real meboy, if ye ever see one... just know it be a crested queen painted white by Sarwan! it's all reaper propaganda!

I have 11k hours in this game, never saw it once. I hope to see it one day though. If it happens, great. If not, I hope I see it the next time. I'm not holding my breath. It's not the sole reason I play this game, as that not only doesn't sound fun to me, but it doesn't sound fun for you either. I don't want Rare to change the spawn rate, as it fits the Easter egg if a particular book, and you'll see it when you see it.
Also, don't be so negative about it. Ten years ago I was playing WoW, and I'd heard of this mysterious creature called the Time Lost Protodrake. There's a clue in it's name, as players spent years waiting to see it so they could kill it, loot it, and get their mount. I decided to give it a try. After waiting in one spot for 3hrs, I gave up and decided to do quests in the area instead, figuring to make the most of my time. Once I finished the last quest, suddenly it spawned right in front of me on frozen lake. I killed it, and got my mount.
Don't give up, but don't make it the sole reason you play the game. It'll happen again for you. It'll happen eventually for me, and I can't wait for that day to come.

  • @europa4033 if im still playing this game regularly in 5 years something has gone very very wrong in my life

  • @potatosord i dont need to kill it 5 times, i want to kill it once. even i have my limits

  • @burnbacon making something that only happens once every 1 (to three) hours a 1 out of 7000 chance is not special, its [REDACTED]. You can rephrase it any way you want

  • For the final Commendation, you do indeed need to defeat it 5 times as a Pirate Legend.

The only reason Pirates want to see/defeat The Shrouded Ghost, is BECAUSE it is so rare.

If it were more common, then there would be no desire. It would just be another thing.

Dedicating your whole Sea of Thieves time to one thing in the hopes the dice fall your way seems futile and, honestly, more like work rather than actually PLAYING a game!

If there was a way to trigger/force a Shrouded Ghost spawn, best believe it would have been for sale on eBay by now.

Also, imagine that you triggering meg spawns doesn't tip the scales for others doing the same on other servers?!

    Dropping anchor here.
