About the Kraken

  • I really think the current system needs a change, because right now it seems quite unlikely to encounter the kraken and it's a shame that the mighty beast goes unnoticed by many players.

I played my fair share in Gamepass, but I bought the game not long ago and in 140h I haven't seen it once.

Maybe making it a world event o making it a random encounter like the megalodon (not depending on world events and such) might be a good way of increasing the chance of the encounter.

  • @mretroxb Hey Pirate !

It is a random chance encounter as well as you said, the Meg.

You need to be sailing in open waters without a world event active, along with being the lucky ship the kraken wants to prey on. It's random.

  • I think I must of been around 140-160 hours in before I had my first encounter with the kraken. I think making it a guaranteed or more common encounter would kind of ruin the experience. I was beginning to think the kraken wasn't really in the game until one day it got me on a solo sloop with what was at the time a pretty big stack of loot for me 😂 but I thought the encounter was epic! It does tend to become more of nuisance the more you encounter it tho. I also feel making it more common would take some wonder out of the game for new players, it definitely wouldn't of made my first encounter with it it feel so epic, if it was like the megs or a world event. That's just my opinion tho

  • @sa1tynutz Hey!

Yeah I know, but just as you said, there can't be any world event active (which doesn't happen often) and even then, you have to be the "lucky" one . As far as I know, the Meg doesn't have the world event requirement, so it's one step easier to get that encounter.

  • @rotten-rocko

Yeah, I get your point but nowadays it's rare to find someone who doesn't know there is a kraken in the game (not as in the earlier days of the game), and even then, you can clearly see it in the tutorial.

I got some friends who I play with that knew of it before playing the game and have been trying to get the encounter ever since (with no luck), just to see how it goes even if it is just once, so it can be a bit disappointing.

I know it's a nuissance to face it after a couple of times, I don't mean to find it quite often, but every now and then it'd be nice, but that's also my opinion of course.

  • @mretroxb fair enough.

I'm not certain but I think it goes for ships with stacks of loot on, at least that's been my experience when chasing or being chased. I don't think I've ever encountered it with out a stack of loot being involved, so maybe try that if you're trying to get it, when a world event isn't active of course

    Not true.

    • It only appears if there's no other world event active.
    • It picks its target from everyone on the server & in deep water (IE: Not within range of an island).

It does not pick its target based on loot or anything else besides 'Are they in deep water?'

  • @guildar9194 I stand corrected

  • What's really weird is a few seasons back they showed a world event up and a ship grabbed by the kraken at the same time. I was like "Oh cool, the krakens no longer part of the world event rotation" but nope. I guess that was just a developer build that the force spawned the kraken to get a cool cinematic while another world event was active? Agreed though with the Burning Blade disabling other world events and the whole point of this new event is to ruin the world events for the server for as long as possible. Odd choice.

  • Seems it should only be a random encounter and not a world event.

  • For this season (and maybe future seasons) people that are hunting krakens are gonna want to dive off servers with player controlled BB's. A player can lock those down for hours which will lead to a lot less krakens on those servers. Exception to this would be if you can see one actively in combat (they might lose) or one selling at reapers. Timing is everything. There is a lot to observe on a server that can help keep kraken and meg encounters at least somewhat regular.

If you notice that there isn't a world event for 10-15+ minutes and then all the sudden an event pops up it likely means the kraken spawned on someone else so for kraken hunting it would make sense to dive to a new server. World events can be tough to see though so make sure there isn't an event and it's not just behind a storm or something.

Just a couple of tips that will increase your chances.

  • As some have said. The Kraken needs its own BB open world event. Whirlpools, the Kane dragging ships below the waves, its face coming out of the water to bite the ship.

    Something.

  • Free the Kraken from world events!
The only ones that take place in open water is the Skelly Fleet and BB. Getting Krakened with the BB should be a thing. Not spawning during the Skelly Fleet would still be okay for me tho lol.

I have to disagree with freeing the kraken from world events; It would make Safer Seas unbearable.
The kraken spawns if there is no world event going, and Safer Seas has one target for a kraken. So untethering it from world events would mean SS players are attacked every time they leave an island.

  • I just think the Kraken should drop better loot since it doesn't happen often.

  • @guildar9194

Have you actually seen the Kraken in Safer Seas??

I've played hours and hours and hours in SS with my little sisters and I've never ever seen one.

Went through the entire world event rotation once; completed every single one and then immediately headed out to open waters out of gneuine curiosity trying to spawn Karen and it still didn't work. How'd you get it to spawn???
