I'd like to share an idea I had for a world event. I'm not the first to think of this idea, but I think I've added some fresh details to it. Now, ahem
The lessening strength of the border between the Sea of Thieves and the Sea of the Damned has effected the Devil's Shroud. A path has opened within it, just wide enough for one of the Grand Maritime Union's mighty vessels to burst through onto the waves. This colossal beast of a ship boasts incredible defense and firepower, though it is very slow. Crews may attempt to take it down, though a lone crew is rarely enough unless it's piloted by some very skilled sailors.
Upon the vessel's defeat, the crew surrenders and dives overboard, leaving the vessel floating on the waves. From here, crews may board the ship and not only claim its treasure, but claim the very vessel itself! Due to its sheer size, alliances the conquering crew holds may also join this temporary crew, with each crew's original vessels sinking below the waves while this veritable man o' war is being captained. From here, players may sail this ship to an outpost to empty out the coffers, or use it to attack unsuspecting pirates.
However, this power comes with a price: The survivors of the old crew have placed a plentiful bounty on your heads. Any pirate who played any part in taking down the vessel gets a very hefty sum of gold (let's say 100,000). Any pirate who plays a part in sinking the stolen vessel gets this reward, and your location is marked on the map for all to see. Meaning that while you captain this ship, any pirate across the sea will not want to miss the opportunity to sink you where you stand. This effectively balances out the risk and reward of piloting the vessel in the first place.
I know that's a lot of text, but I think the idea's got some merit, so I wanted to flesh it out as much as I could. Anyway, let me know what you think!
