Let people (solo players) rejoin after getting kicked for inactivity

  • Every other reason for being kicked prompts you to rejoin but not inactivity. If you are solo then you have no way to regain your loot. I found this out the annoying way because I just fished for 2 hours then go for 15mins to eat and get kicked with no way to rejoin. You can rejoin if kicked for any other reason, so why not for afk kick because if you can press the rejoin button then you're clearly not afk anymore. I understand the problem of people afking on someone's ship while they collect loot but if you don't want to get kicked there are various methods such as taping joystick, macros, or just moving every once in a while. Taking the option of rejoining away from players kicked for inactivity is just a hinderance for solo players only and is an obsolete feature. Either the option to rejoin when kicked for inactivity should be added, or some exception made for solo players who don't have people to invite them back

  • If you are long enough on a server to get kicked, your place on the server will be taken by someone else. Therefor there is no opportunity for you to return.

  • @lem0n-curry
fair but for a game you can play for hours on end on 1 server the afk timer should at least be a bit longer than 10 minutes even if only for solo players considering people need to eat food/ go toilet etc. sometimes

  • @great-wcar
You could turn in before you're going to eat and start a new session after.
Or don't sail solo and hope for a crewmate that doesn't mind to sail alone for half an hour.

  • You do usually. Happened to me before

The WiFi went down for some reason and when I booted the game up it said 'Would you like to rejoin".

So I think you just need to be fast so your place doesn't get taken.

  • no, for some reason your place is not held even for a second if u get kicked for inactivity. i just think they should remove that and hold your place for 5-10 mins the same as if your game crashed.

  • @ottyman8687 But that is a hard disconnect, not a kick for inactivity.

@Great-WCar You should have sold first. If you go afk and get kicked, that is your fault and the game shows zero remorse and doesn't let you back in as it tries to fill that spot with active players.

  • I think this is intended. Servers cost money. Rare probably don't want to pay Microsoft for player`s glorified screensavers.

Personaly I'm on your side and think that Rare should just eat the cost. Players want to take breaks in a long session. But I don't think this will change anytime soon.

So, as you said, there are options. Use a macro or smth.

  • You have 5+? Minutes to be inactive. If you know you'll be more than 5 minutes quit from home or alt+F4.

  • This doesn't seem like an unreasonable request at all. Just let people kicked for inactivity rejoin like anyone else. There's almost zero downsides to it.

  • If you are solo then you have no way to regain your loot.

This happen to you? Hmph, Ive been booted before myself but within 30seconds able to "Rejoin" could be a bug?

There are zero options to evade the afk timer. Use of third party applications, software, and programs is not allowed, includes for afking. Do not encourage their use and do not use them.

    You can be reported.

You are not allowed to afk.

You have 10 minutes and that is plenty.

Afk bots can just rejoin and keep afking.

It is there to prevent abuse and save on bandwidth.

If AFK bots have the ability to rejoin a server, then they have the ability to spin in place and never get kicked in the first place. This doesn't prevent abuse or save on bandwidth.

Also, if you've got someone AFK spamming you, just change your crew to closed when they get kicked.

  • I'm for keeping hard boot parameters on afks. First, the game already has a limited amount of boat spots. Server quality relies heavily on having active ships, when one ship is missing it is very much noticed. Maybe if this game had dozens of ships where a few missing wouldn't be noticed then it would be fine, but that isn't this case.

The downside is that the server has to save spots for players kicked for inactivity indefinitely. This means that if you're sailing with someone and they AFK and get disconnected, you'll never be able to use that space because it's being held for the original player.

Holding the spot indefinitely seems unreasonable. Up the AFK timer from 10 to 20 min, then set rejoin timer to 10 minutes. This would help out for both solo sloopers and open crews. Really the easiest solution is probably just upping the AFK timer. 10 min is so short for the amount of time this game asks of you. I can't think of another game that mechanically punishes you so quickly for stepping away (on top of the already punishing PvEvP aspects).

You're penalizing crews that end up with an AFK crewmate for 3 times as long now. It will be 30 minutes before they can get a replacement.

Half an hour total ? So if one would be on a server with such a player there would be an inactive ship for 30 minutes on the server? This would kill the sail together even more than the 6 to 5 ships we have currently.

There would also be people to "reset" it every 20-25 minutes as well, making it "indefinitely" for all intents and purposes.

Within a day or so there would be a list of "safe spots" around the seas where you can find the AFK crews, so don't expect to have anything worthwhile aboard when you return from your lunch ... when in an alliance expect to have it ended after a few minutes of spending in the same spot as well.

  • @lem0n-curry wait, this makes it sound like there are just a bunch of AFK griefers swarming the servers...

There will be the case where someone is accidently AFK for 30 minutes, worst case. And yes, the shop would sit there for that long.

Then there are the actual griefers who just sit there spinning their character for hours and this still can't prevent that.

The accidental AFK that goes more than 30 minutes seems pretty few and far between.

  • Bro just work out how long you'll be

Obviously if you are in an Open Crew ask them if it's OK to go afk for a bit.

But obviously don't afk for 3 hours

If you want your dinner or urgently have to go, just push your controller joystick to the side and balance something in it. You will just spin indefinitely.

But again, don't do this in Open Crew because that makes you an AFK farmer. Just use it if you are halfway through Shores of Gold and you need to let the dog out or something

  • @captain-coel every day when i go afk to go to toilet i get kicked for afk what do you think about that.
it is physically unhealthy to hold in your need to go to toilet, especially since sailing to selling can take a long time.

maybe men can just go into a bottle but a woman cannot. i dont think any games should be encouraging you to go in a bottle or hold your toilet needs, plus even if you sell, you can lose 5 hours worth of supplies. just happened to me lost all my supplies because i couldnt hold the bathroom anymore.
