  • I have a question I would like to be discussed about the future of Tall Tales.

Will we get any more Flameheart themed tall tales?

With the introduction of Adventures we are finally continuing the story of Flameheart that started on Shipwreck Bay with the “Seabound Soul” tall tale. We only have 2 tall tales about Flameheart. Will we get any more tall tales or will everything be done through Adventures.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Adventures and the changing world. I’m hoping that we will get at least 3 more tall tales ending with Flameheart’s demise. I also want to see Ashen Lord Sticher Jim.

  • I don't think we'll ever get any kind of new tall tales anymore now that we have these Adventures

  • The Disney stuff had some unanswered questions, so I imagine maybe a few more of those are coming.

The SoT related lore seems to be getting rolled into the adventures and the world itself so I doubt we'll see any more tales for that.

  • @thekratex7201

    That’s what I’m afraid of.

The problem with the Adventures is that they aren’t permanent. Adventure 1 can no longer be played. Future players can’t play the Flameheart storyline after “The Heart of Fire” I would like the tall tale storyline to be completed

  • I too am not a fan of the Adventures that are not permanent. My schedule has me at times where it could be a few weeks before I can play. I have already missed out on the first part of the adventure due to this.

Luckily for you, not much is happening in Adventures gameplay-wise. And as said in the podcast, there will be a way in-game to review everything that happened. Until then, you can use the adventures tab on this website if you want to keep on with the story but have no time to play

  • @thekratex7201 I rather do the adventure than to review it.

  • If they never add another tall tale it will be too soon. I want the adventures to have a little more meat to them. But I am okay with the story being temporary.

  • If we get a chance to kill Flameheart, or have any sort of "final battle" with him it'll likely end with a tall tale.

Actually, battle or not, when they get to finishing his storyline, it'll likely be a tall tale

  • @thekratex7201 I don’t think that accurate. Tall Tales are still very much a thing, which I took even out of this most recent podcast.

  • @lethality1 I agree. I’d be very surprised if we didn’t end up getting more POTC TTs at some point too.

I heard here on the forums and in other places that one of the devs said that they are way too difficult to make to be worth it. It's not confirmed but seems likely.

  • I hope this is not the end of tall tales... however I also don't want tall tales anytime soon.

I think they should use tall tales as big finales to character arcs! Also speaking of hope flameheart has a character arc and not just an overarching villain forever that for some reason we can never defeat!

  • @wdw1011971 This was my feeling exactly, I worry that my work schedule will have me missing parts of a story I have been enjoying playing through for nearly three years now...

  • I’m aware that the devs have said that tall tales are not worth the effort. Many people play them and forget about them. But the same can be said for these new adventures especially since they only last a few weeks.

As for the tall tales, as long as they complete the Flameheart story I don’t mind if we never get a 4th storyline of tall tales. I hope Rare gives us 3 final Flameheart tall tales

  • Personally Im not a huge fan of Tall Tales.

The only one I enjoyed playing (5 times) was Shores of Gold and Heart of Fire. The rest just seemed like an amalgamation of Gold Hoarder and Order of Souls voyages and in the end got a bit boring.

Don't get me wrong. The first time through they were great (The Shorudbreaker was the first thing I ever did in this game) but the checkpoints have trivialised them a bit and now they are just PvE quests and after doing them all 5 times I lost interest.

Then APL ones came out and I still haven't done 4 or 5. Because I found them boring. Sorry Rare, not my thing. It just seemed like I was doing the same Siren puzzle over and over again with some voices thrown in.

Now we have adventures. They are basically restrictive events with less rewards. BUT I think they can be merged with Tall Tales and Events to make great things.

Let's look at the Pros and Cons of the 3

    Tall Tales:

    • Gets repetitive, little variety
    • Requires you to go out of your way to do them
    • Adds some nice environments
    • Some decent puzzle sections
    • Good rewards for them

    Events

    • Recycled Content
    • Can be done in the background (with a few exceptions)
    • Generally not restrictive
    • Last a while
    • Good Rewards

    Adventures:

    • Like events, but with fewer options
    • You must go out of your way to do them
    • Little Reward
    • Grindy from RNG
    • Adds lore

So taking this into account, here is my proposal for Adventures.
I will explain what an upgraded version of Forts of the Forgotten would be like:

First, you visit Belle and now the adventure is active. Forever.

There is a new commendations tab inside Tall Tales called 'Adventures'.

Now, until the adventure ends, these are active before being replaced with the next one. After you unlock all the Commendations, you receive a reward and can visit Belle again to finish the quest and get the lore and a final mission (like the Coral Kingdom thing)

The commendations would have more activities than "do forts" "get enchant vessels" and more ways to do them.

    For example:

    FORTS OF THE FORGOTTEN

    • Return Enchantment Vessels, 1-2-3-4-5
    • Kill any Phantoms, 5-10-25-50-100
    • Sell Damned Loot, 3-5-10-25-50
    • Rescue different people from GSO, 2-4-6-8-10

    Then rewards:

    • Sword, sell 5 EVessels
    • Hat, kill 100 phantoms
    • Banjo, sell 50 damned loot
    • Title, rescue 10 GSO people
    • Sails, complete everything

Then you return to Belle and complete a Tall Tale-esque mission.

    For example:

You need to save xyz from Old Brinestone fortress. This time, however, ghost ships will circle the fort and you must fight through them. Then when you park, you must fight a buffed fort, with double the phantoms.

Then the boss wave, but this phantom has the special ground-pound and summon attacks. Then you get a key which opens a door on the lower layer. It leads to a separate area down below where you must navigate through to find xyz. You then return to Belle. The end.

Now obviously this whole example is an absolute mess, but with a few tweaks I think it could be a good way to please everyone (lore people, cosmetic people, action people, completionists, etc.).

It would make adventures less invasive, with there being many ways to complete some of the commendations.

And then the whole thing will be less of "get quest and do forts" and more "play the game".

  • @ottyman8687 Woah, you found Shores of Gold 5 times fun? That’s something else, right there!

  • @scurvywoof

Yeah I know. All the other ones were really boring after the first time, but Shores of Gold was always fun.

It's the only one that doesn't require sailing for 20 minutes to dig one thing up.

It’s actually a shame that Rare did all that hard work making the Shores of Gold only to have it abandoned. I haven’t been there since I unlocked my gold curse (which wasn’t worth the effort in my opinion)

I heard rumors that Rare may repurpose the Shores of Gold. Rare, can you please confirm this in your next podcast? Rare, can you also please acknowledge that you have at least heard my podcast request? I don’t expect my questions to be answered but I’m hoping you can at least tell me that you heard my request

I mean I think it served it's purpose. When I started, the Shroudbreaker was the first quest I ever did (no voyages, straight into tall tales) so SoG was hyped from the start. I only managed to get there a few months after, but sailing into Tribute Peak and doing the vaults and traps is easily one of the most memorable experiences in this game

I haven’t been there since I unlocked my gold curse (which wasn’t worth the effort in my opinion)

I grinded for it and IMO it's the best curse in the game. OoS one is a bit boring, I didn't get the AF one and the ashen one typically seems to be used by new players.

I heard rumors that Rare may repurpose the Shores of Gold.

Hopefully it remains in the shroud, but maybe they could add a special shroudbreaker voyage that ends there?
