Glitterbeard... 10/10

  • @reapinglegion said in Glitterbeard... 10/10:

@galactic-geek I meant....i wanna do it you know but gathering 8 people is hard when you're just on a sloop and refuse bigger boats. :P

So easier said than done mr.star wars quoter :P

Face your fears, and sail a galleon. Fortune favors the bold.

  • @galactic-geek

You state it will remain doable, but let us get the facts straight right here:

    • The patch in which this is released just came out, which means many players have not done it and will be more open to help achieve this as they themselves still need it.
    • It took you with a galleon crew: 2 hours, while the above is true to get the 8 crew members.
    • It then took you another 1 hour to complete the tale itself with those members.

This means it took you a full 3 hours, with a full group of 4 players all wanting to do this in the best moment to do it. You see this as a: Look it is doable, while it actually showcases how unsustainable this is over time. The longer it is out, the harder it is going to find 8 members to do it. As less people need it and therefore have no desire to help you split the map, find more players, do a full hour on the tale to complete it and are more likely to go to their chest, put on the beard, laugh in your face and kill you for the loot you are trying to use to bribe them. You showcase exactly that the amount of effort required is abnormal and unrealistic to be feasible in the future. It takes so much effort to complete it right after it came out and everyone needs it! As in how many in that group already had the beard... my guess is zero?

Not to mention you are quick to dismiss people that don't really play on a galleon and just go... just do it! I rarely play on a galleon, as unless it is an organized group it just isn't fun. I open crew for the majority - which means I don't touch a galleon with a 10 foot pole, I don't use LFG as that takes to long and my personal experience isn't great with it. Therefore I only galleon when one of my discord channels is seeking a player and guess what we go PVP or FotD at that point; because that is the most fun to do with an organized group. Also, sloop is the best! It isn't that I dislike a galleon, just I really don't enjoy it when it feels like I am sailing it as a solo; it just makes me frustrated and angry with my own team.

  • @galactic-geek So me and my gf should sail a galleon and meet another random galleon?

Have you been on open crews? Have you done this yourself?
    It's both dumb and hard.
Me and my gf wants to play alone, does that mean that we're not allowed to experiance this "brilliant and awesome" piece of "art" and honor the passed away rare staff member

F that big time, i've been putting so much into this game. - Forum posts, MONEY and even called in sick @ work just go grind my rear end of.

Im so sick and tired of this maedness alliance thingy, they can sure as hell ad some events thateverybody can do....and if they don't, they can buy it in the vendirs and no more limited cosmetics so EVERYBODY can get them, but letting not everyone have the (probably) ugly cannonflare or experiance this just simply you need 8 players who both speak english and understand whats need to be done?
I saw something that the number "8" had a meaning....

I mean dude, are you kidding me?
I've seen the tips and stuff people've done and cool...good for your lucky rearend. (Yea have to use other words as(another s) is banned...)

I have tried getting this done for DAYS and i have played every damn day for 3 years now....have over 900h on steam and gods knows how much on the MS Store version.

This is the dumbest thing since hungering deep, sure me and my (then) friend did it....stocked up and almost got sunk while killing the beast but it was atleast doable.

I have latley started to loose interest in having this game 100 completed (all comms and achivement)...what i need is the shrouded ghost which i can accept that i wont get as it's a rare thing and has been since 'rare" had a meaning in this game....
And now the last journal which i know i CAN get only if i find 8 people with brains, basically...on eu servers were most speaks russian, french, german or spanish and their whole country thinks that everyone talks that simply cuz they have their SOT version in their native tounge.
So the communications on my servers are...let's say abit...off? 😂
Anyway, i can probably join an alliance server and play with people....but then i stutter alot (been doing it since birth) and i hate to talk to random people with my own voice cuz people think i had a stroke, am drunk or just born with less chromosones....so f that bro.

And yea loads of other factions, i usually never expose my life like this but as you think it's easy...lemmie tell you, NOT for everybody....buddy 😂

Edit: And yea, you can't have everything in life but MANY of us insiders already complained about that you had to be 8 pirates fo it...

Edit2: Loads of typ0's but if you have a fast brain you should be able to decipher the right words

  • @reapinglegion said in Glitterbeard... 10/10:

@galactic-geek So me and my gf should sail a galleon and meet another random galleon?

Yes. But a galleon for you or the other crews isn't required by any means - it just makes things easier.

Have you been on open crews?

    Yes.

    Have you done this yourself?

    Yes.

    It's both dumb and hard.

There's nothing dumb about it. Hard? Only as hard as you make it.

Me and my gf wants to play alone

    That's your choice.

does that mean that we're not allowed to experiance this "brilliant and awesome" piece of "art" and honor the passed away rare staff member

No, again you're making that choice.

    F that big time,

    Language!

i've been putting so much into this game. - Forum posts, MONEY and even called in sick @ work just go grind my rear end of.

It's not about the gold, but the glory! As for grinding? That's just you doing a disservice to your own experience. As for calling out sick from work for a video game? That's just you doing a disservice to your own livelihood.

Im so sick and tired of this maedness alliance thingy,

What's wrong with socializing and meeting new people and mutually profiting off of it?

    they can sure as hell

    Language!

ad some events thateverybody can do....

    Everybody can do this event.

and if they don't, they can buy it in the vendirs

Some things aren't meant to be bought.

and no more limited cosmetics so EVERYBODY can get them,

Rare is already steering closer to that direction. That said, all cosmetics are achievable within a relatively reasonable time frame - you just have to be willing to put in the time and probably plan ahead.

but letting not everyone have the (probably) ugly cannonflare

It's beautiful! But of course, this is subjective. And everyone can have it - if they put in the effort.

or experiance this just simply you need 8 players who both speak english and understand whats need to be done?

There are ways to communicate without voice. That open crewmate we had during my experience? He had no mic and never joined the party. We had to direct him with quick chat and emotes and by example. He got the idea and was probably just excited at having so many pirates together doing something unusual.

I saw something that the number "8" had a meaning....

    Yep, it's important!

I mean dude, are you kidding me?

    No.

I've seen the tips and stuff people've done and cool...good for your lucky rearend. (Yea have to use other words as(another s) is banned...)

    Rude!

I have tried getting this done for DAYS

Maybe there's a better way that you haven't tried? You only lose if you give up. 😉

and i have played every damn day for 3 years now....have over 900h on steam and gods knows how much on the MS Store version.

    Irrelevant.

This is the dumbest thing since hungering deep,

A lot of pirates that were around for that event say it was 1 of the best experiences they have ever had upon the Sea, and I'm hearing the same from those who have actually put in the work for this experience.

sure me and my (then) friend did it....stocked up and almost got sunk while killing the beast but it was atleast doable.

    This is doable too.

I have latley started to loose interest in having this game 100 completed (all comms and achivement)...

You have every single commendation!? Congratulations! Can I see!?

Oh, wait - that's a lie, because you haven't yet successfully completed this experience. Don't lie - it makes you look bad.

what i need is the shrouded ghost which i can accept that i wont get as it's a rare thing and has been since 'rare" had a meaning in this game....

The Sea still has meaning - at least in what you make of it. And you don't need the Shrouded Ghost - you only WANT to defeat the Shrouded Ghost (like most pirates - myself included).

And now the last journal which i know i CAN get only if i find 8 people with brains, basically...

    Everybody's got a brain.

on eu servers were most speaks russian, french, german or spanish and their whole country thinks that everyone talks that simply cuz they have their SOT version in their native tounge.

Try sailing at different hours - you might be placed onto a US server. Also, quick chat can help with the language barrier.

So the communications on my servers are...let's say abit...off? 😂

Just a bit harder to deal with.

Anyway, i can probably join an alliance server and play with people....

    That's a good idea!

but then i stutter alot (been doing it since birth) and i hate to talk to random people

I'm sorry to hear that you have that difficulty. That said, your unwillingness to confront that is a limitation of your own design.

with my own voice cuz people think i had a stroke, am drunk or just born with less chromosones....

Well, that's what they think. So, set the record straight! Most mature people are understanding and sympathetic and patient.

    so f that bro.

    Language!

And yea loads of other factions, i usually never expose my life like

I think it's a brave thing that you're doing. And that's a great 1st step! If you can do that, think about what else you might be able to accomplish if you just put in the time and work.

this but as you think it's easy...

Some of it was, and some of it wasn't. I may have said it was easy, but I was mostly alluding to the idea that it's not as hard as many think it is. Most who are complaining haven't even tried it yet, and are complaining and giving up before they even start - a defeatist attitude if I ever saw 1. In my experience, it was really mostly just time-consuming.

lemmie tell you, NOT for everybody....buddy 😂

    Everything is not for everybody.

Edit: And yea, you can't have everything in life but MANY of us insiders already complained about that you had to be 8 pirates fo it...

Did those Insider pirates try to do it? Did they put in the work? Did they give up?

Edit2: Loads of typ0's but if you have a fast brain you should be able to decipher the right words

I don't mind the typos, probably much like I wouldn't mind your stutter. Also, like everyone else, I do have a brain - and I do take pride in it.

Finally, if you would like some help, I'd be more than happy to help you out (though it will probably be on a weekend to ensure that we have enough time).

  • In my experience, its already hard to make people join a aliance, gathering 8 .........

70% of the time i try to get an aliance i get robbed, sunk and killed... and i still try... but most people just want is the easy path...sync the solo sloop -.-

So ya... getting 8 players is hard, you made it? Great for you... is it easy? Hell no! Is it meant to not be easy? Looks like it...

If only there was a common understanding in the sea, that if you had the sails of glitterbeard and a aliance flag up, that would be easier maybe to get players together (even so there would be the S.O.B. ones that would do that just to screw you over)...

So maybe the devs could make some anouncement on this? So that players know that if you're using the glitterbeard sail and a aliance flag you're trying to get 8 players to get to experience the memorial?...

It's just not easy to gather 8 players...sorry but its not... and im tired of getting sunk by players that take advantage of my good will to try to make aliances... its just really frustating... and i know its part of the game... but still... lots of really bad apples out there...

  • Not to be disrespectful towards anyone but for those being upset at how hard it is to find another crew i would like to remind u all that looking for group posts on the sea of thieves website exist as well as on xbox

  • @poisnclawttv You mean server hopping until everyone is on the same server?
Tried that some weeks ago to get to play with 6 friends, took us almost 1 hour, but we did it...

  • To be able to make the 8 player music playing do all the players have to have the rest of the book commendations?

  • I saw some video on the experience on YouTube.

Yeah, I cried just watching it. It's beautiful in it's intent.

But I also cried because it's unlikely I can experience this myself anytime soon.

  • @valor-omega Nice generalization. You must have been the highschool debate champ.

Yet that doesn't address other crews now does it, unless you are stating we should exploit the match making system and create an alliance server... not really a good point if abusing a system is required to do this.

Also, what happens in 3 months, half a year or a years time? When this isn't fresh off the press. Longevity is the biggest concern.

  • @galactic-geek Way to much to read so i just say: "ok" -

  • Doublepost.

  • @cotu42 its not "abusing the system" you dont have to make an aliance server. When u dont go killing everyone in sight you would be surprised by how many people are friendly out there. I can still get crews to help with thrones nowadays. U say longevity is key and yeah it is. But anything worthwhile u have to put WORK into. Its not a 100 percent foolproof thing but its still an option

Sounds to me like you're heading in the right direction. It's not foolproof, because you're right - there will always be rotten apples. The trick is to communicate your intent like crazy! Use your mic and speaking trumpet. Use XBL or Steam messaging via recent players. Raise the new sails. Point your cannons to the sky. Use the rainbow or alliance flag. Offer additional incentives. Etc. Combining all of these and more increases your chances of success.

Only good for your own crew if you don't have enough friends for a galleon.

@poisnclawttv You mean server hopping until everyone is on the same server?
Tried that some weeks ago to get to play with 6 friends, took us almost 1 hour, but we did it...

I ran into a friend just yesterday on a server by pure chance. I checked the recent players list and was like "wait a minute..." I messaged him asking him to raise the reaper flag and when he did I told him where I saw it, which confirmed it.

When we went to meet him, we realized that he was under attack but couldn't tell which ship was his. Upon boarding 1 of the vessels, we saw a pirate that wasn't him, so we sunk that ship since he said he was soloing. Then the other ship attacked us, so we sank that ship too and killed my friend as he tried to board us, believing he tricked us. Turned out that his ship was the 1st ship we sunk and that he had been boarded and killed prior to our boarding of his ship, which led to the confusion. In the end the other pirate managed to keg our ship after we rammed into his, so nobody won and all of the loot from all 3 ships were lost. 🤣

Watching it and doing it aren't the same thing. You're cheapened the experience by watching it, IMO.

  • Hey GG,

I think the staff at Rare did a great thing making this event for GlitterBeard.
The reality is some of us play solo for a reason...sometimes of real world reasons.
I work shift work 7days on 7days off then rotate from working days to working nights.
My schedule makes me unavailable for periods of time. I have never had a dedicated crew to play with on a regular bases. Players come and go but I usually have a pretty good time with common goals when playing with new players. I play open crew a lot. Some are good, some are bad, some we have language barriers. In the end I feel I am similar to the player Glitter Beard as I help other players and they help me. I will try to get the last journal and complete it but it will be difficult for me to do.
Congratz on getting yours done it’s quite of an achievement.

As long as you are dedicated, a busy schedule matters not - at least in this instance (where the event is permanent). Why do I say this? Because it's not hard to do open crew and eventually add enough pirates over time to your friends list so that you'll always have someone to sail with, regardless of time of day.

  • @poisnclawttv said in Glitterbeard... 10/10:

I don't kill everyone on sight and yes setting an alliance server up and running is abusing the system, that is the truth to it. Like if you have no issues with it then so be it, but don't kid yourself that it isn't intentionally breaking the system to by-pass restrictions. To be clear this isn't sailing up to random people.

8 people means 3+ crews is just unrealistic for the majority of people. It isn't even about work mere luck and the older it becomes the less likely it will happen. There are even server setups possible where with all the ships you would be down people. It is still possible to do the thrones... which requires 1 other pirate and yet Marauders arch still takes a lot of effort.

  • We managed to get this done today. I love and hate the player requirement. I think it's a couple of players too many. It took us 4 - 5 hours to wrangle together the players needed.

At one point we thought we were ready only for a couple of trolls to kick off (they'd joined one of the "good" player's open crew). It took us a while to "convince" them to leave - not proud of spawncamping but it was the only way as they weren't listening to our pleeds (this was about 4 hours in). Anyway they left and two more joined their crew who were super nice and happy to join in. In the end we actually had 9 of us - our galleon, a brig and a sloop. We failed the puzzle the first time but managed to get it done second time round... in the storm, which was even cooler!

In the end, it was an incredible experience and we were all moved by it. We made friends with some and thanked everyone for their patience and being part of it. That's what it's about.

But I still feel 8 is too many. This was our third day of trying to find players. I can only imagine this is going to get a lot harder as time goes by to do. I think 5 or 6 players would have been a more realistic requirement for the longevity. I (and my occasional crew) will always be willing to help players get this done but I can't see that being the case with a lot of players - many of whom just don't care.

TL;DR - I like that it requires more than a crew, I just think 8 is too many players.

  • @realstyli I would have hated doing it in the storm after all that work only to watch as a random lightning strike interrupts the entire process.

  • @galactic-geek said in Glitterbeard... 10/10:

@realstyli I would have hated doing it in the storm after all that work only to watch as a random lightning strike interrupts the entire process.

It almost did! We had a couple get hit just before the sun went down and I had to revive one and give them a pineapple to keep going. If it had ruined it then we would have just waited until the next sunset. After all that time I don't think anyone was going to leave and miss the only opportunity to do it. But we did do it and, as I said, the storm made it all the more cooler.

Despite my reservations about the players needed, this really is up there with The Hungering Deep in terms of an experience in the game that I will never forget.

  • @realstyli said:

    Agreed.

  • Ohhh so that's what Glitterbeard is, LOL we thought people are trying to make fun of our glitter flares on cannons.
Thats why they were trying to make alliance with us.. now it all makes sense.
    Oops...

  • @realstyli thank you for showcasing your story and even with the patch just coming out how much effort goes into it now to get it done. A multi-crew requirement is fine, 8 is just way to much. Your story comes in line with what I expected it to be and is why as a mainly sloop player haven't even attempted it... I play a female character anyway, so I don't wear beards. If approached I most likely would agree to join, but.... that hasn't happened yet.

I predict if Rare looks at their stats down the line in a couple of months the amount of players that actually do this section of the tale after this initial hype, this epic tribute.... will simply be a lost memory buried in the sands.
