accessibility setting (for dizziness)

  • I have played the game for a bit now and even though I love it, I have some issues with genuinely feeling motion sick after playing for a bit. Part of the reason for this might be because the field of view is constricting and nauseating when sailing around. I can't imagine that I am the only person feeling this way and maybe the addition of a higher field of view would be nice and alleviate some of those issues causing nausia?

  • This is interesting to me because there are lots of games where your view moves around, often you have more direct control over that movement though. Also it is only when you are on deck and can see the sea, that this motion is really noticable, funny thing is that on real boats you tend to feel most sick when you go below deck and can't see the sea. I guess you must be happier when your character is on land? Whether there is a fix for this that doesn't impart an unfair gameplay advantage, I'm not so sure.

  • @blooplop You can adjust your PoV in the game's settings up to 90°. Have you done that yet? If not, it might help you with your issue.

  • @galactic-geek I feel like most games have options to go to like 120 fov though? Maybe that could be implemented?

  • Going beyond 90 FOV is a great idea, i know a lot of people that get motion sick from lower FOVs, and it seems to be especially bad in SoT while sailing. Something like 100/110/120 FOV would probably help a lot of people.

  • @galactic-geek For a lot of people 90 FOV isnt enough sadly, in some games people cant play for long unless they can have an FOV beyond 100

  • If you're not careful, putting it up too high might make you go fish-eyed.

  • @galactic-geek I think you misunderstood fisheye effect. High FOV has nothing to do with fisheye effect. FOV is just how far your field of view extends. Its common for FPS games to go all the way up to 120 and sometimes more, although it does start to look a bit funny over 120 FOV unless youve got a widescreen monitor and aspect ratio.

    Q: Doesn't a higher FoV squish the middle of the screen?

  • @galactic-geek It doesnt squish the screen although it can look like it. If you have an extreme FOV like 140+ then itll look like everything is much further away from you than it actually is, which i guess could be perceived as the middle of the screen looked a bit squished, but the more field of view the game has to render the further away things are gonna appear to be cause the game needs to fit more on the screen.

  • When I was a little kid like 5 or so I got this Star Trek play set from a Garage Sale or something. The color palette made me so nauseous I actually threw up.

    It was all orange and pastel looking.

    I never played with it again.

    I figured that out when I was 5
