Captain Falcore’s Raft Idea

  • Check the video out to see what the idea was.
It was essentially a death penalty system where after 3 sinkings u spawn on a raft and must sail to nearest outpost in a ship.

He goes much more indepth and i must say, i think the idea is just what this game needs.

i almost dare to say it will come.
check older post of falcore where he came up with a game idea... months later they are in... hmm... falcore might be forshadowing???

He called exploration and we get it next update.
He called super fort player invoked and we got that when FoTD came out.

    Intresting

  • @daringclarky Cant agree with his idea, there should be definately some kind of punishment from sinking plus spawning further and not two islands away but when you sit down on your pc/console you want to have fun and many players have limited time and arent that good in the game so for them its going to be s
    Sailing Simulator 2020.
As much as i love survival games i have more then 2000 hours on dayz and many other games it dosent always fits and this kind of punishing system it should be something lighter but they should definately spawn you further away.
So I have to disagree with him.

Plenty of community suggestions make it into the game. Reaper's Chests, the Reaper's Mark, the skeleton armada, all of those are things you can find the posts on here which was used to implement them. Plenty of people requested a better stronghold, with higher stakes and player activation, and it came. Plenty of people have been calling for more explorable sections of the world, and they're getting it. Rare listens to the whole community, not just Falcore. As for the raft, it's far more likely to punish newer players than better ones who it's targeted at, so I don't think it's a good idea. Some players sink on islands or PvE encounters, or random things, like hitting a keg nestled among Barrels of Plenty, or being ambushed by a particularly nasty skeleton crew, or whatever, whereas this mechanic is pretty much intended to punish players for using game mechanics properly to be persistent.

  • @ultmateragnarok

Yes more suggestions be done than just falcore that is true.
I just pointed one out. And if u read between the lines...
He is in contact with Rare and i think he get insider info from them to foreshadow.

    Anyways yes u are correct

  • I watched Falcore's video and, while I agree with the sentiment, I'm not sure about the idea. Though the way it works right now where a crew can just spawn two islands over and come right back is frustrating.

For me, it would do if they pushed the spawns out, whether you're sunk or you scuttle, you should spawn in a different region at least and with no supplies. The island you spawn at should auto-restock barrels and it's up to you to gather the resources before setting sail again.

well it's annoying if you want to take revenge on the other ship for sinking you if that get added then the seas would be even more empty

I've been on both sides of it, to be honest. Getting revenge is often on my mind if I sink but if I had no real choice, I would accept my fate. The trade off being if I survive an attack that the other ship not going to keep coming back to try to sink me.

me too I'm just saying if a new player wanted to do that then I get why

  • Let me make the idea more user-friendly.

When the ship sinks, it creates a special barrel that allows you to respawn there. Using 4 planks from inventory (planks also spawn and float near the wreckage) you can turn any barrel into a raft and carry your treasure to an outpost. In the case of respawn barrel, as long as it is active, your ship is not gonna spawn. For that to happen you have to interact with it and turn the respawning off - this could be disabled for 5 minutes after sinking. The respawn barrel can be destroyed /scuttled which ports it to a random island.

Now you have a feature that is both penalty and recovery from bad situations.

  • @archaell

Doesn't that entirely negate the purpose of the rowboat, though?

  • @ultmateragnarok The rafts would be worse than the rowboats. To adress your concern, we could make it possible to use the respawn barrel to upgrade a rowboat and give it for example sails and weapon box.

  • @archaell

I do like the idea of sticking a rudder and sail onto a rowboat. Perhaps you could simply use the ammo crates found on beaches for their purpose on the rowboat instead. It might be a good idea to have one drift up from a sunken ship, in that case.
