You have to hit someone or any enemy. If you just swing in the air and miss an enemy it resets gives you a cooldown on when you can swing again. Hitting an enemy will allow you to get 2 more swings in on them

@squid-girl6060 to add to this - sometimes it will lag and interrupt your 3-hit combo if a player starts their own combo on you. it doesn't matter if you hit first on your screen, the server will disagree sometimes and it gets really messy and confusing. sword fights can be a bit of a coin toss sometimes when it gets laggy.

@captncarmichael to be honest, with hitreg fighting itself is almost a coinflip
