Cutting through the fog

    For the moments when you are surrounded by thick fog and cant navigate very well besides using your map table, I wish there was something to pierce through it.

    I have an idea, but not sure how many ppl would like this or not, but what if we had a torch placed on the front mast, surround it with a metal shaped cone to funnel the light forward and cut through the fog in front of your ship?

    It would give an advantage aswell as a disadvantage by giving the light to see what you're doing and also the chance that somebody might spot you out from afar.

    Again, dont know how many ppl would like this idea but I thought it'd be cool. :)

    @xix-zeno-xix You can't see much bu doing this, but you do see better, if you climb into the crows nest. :P

    Usually works to help scout for stone spires in the fog so you don't crash.

    As @Sweltering-Nick has said, the fog is noticeably less thick at the height of the crow's nest. You can climb up to see other things poking above the fog, such as another mast or a larger rock. Another thing you can do is fire yourself upwards from a cannon, which will provide you with a temporary top-down view of the area, allowing you to somewhat see through the fog.

    @sweltering-nick @UltmateRagnarok fair enough guys, I mean I didnt NOT think about those, but I was hoping maybe we could make that easier for us via search light type thing ya know?

    I'm just thinking for like times of when you're by yourself in a sloop mostly, something that prevents you from having to climb/shoot all the way up just to see if you're about to smash into a rock, and if you do you might not be able to get back to your sloop/ship in time.

    I can sail well in fog on my own using the crow's nest method, oftentimes without it. Set your sails at around a third or quarter full and go slowly. It isn't like any other ship can see you very well, the fog acts as very good cover for any ships inside. Standing on the bowsprit while moving slowly should give you enough warning for some things to simply go belowdecks and repair the small holes you might take. I don't see a searchlight attachment really working on these ships, since you'd have to also fuel and tend to the fire.

    @ultmateragnarok you put up very good points my friend, I might just have readjust my brightness settings or something, it's just always so dark on my screen and I'v just begun to think that might be my problem here lol.

    Always best to avoid the fog if solo.

    • Crowsnest goes over the fog and helps view high rocks.
    • Cannon if your lucky
    • Unless you played so much and have the area memorized to the dot. You can sail into and out of the fog easily.
