New Details on The Cursed Sails

    So how hyped are you? The new Cursed Sails expansion is only 7 days away and with it comes a number of gameplay enhancements, new ways to play, and a new enemy threat. Some of the bigger changes include things such as a brand spanking new ship known as the
    Brigantine

    Now recently this image was leaked with a few details on being able to customize our ships in more detail by changing things such as cannon skins. Unfortunately this particular feature may not be available on release for Curse Sails but is coming at a later date. We do have cursed cannon balls coming though.

    But the Brigantine won't be the only thing hitting the Seas on July 31st as skeleton crews make their first appearance into the game along with a spooky new ship to scare the bananas out of you.

    As shown in the trailer this new ship will be able to disappear and reappear out of the sea. There are some new details on what you may find aboard these skeleton ships, well besides angry skeletons that is. Not only will there be treasure aboard these ships for you to plunder but there will also be a new treasure chest type introduced through this expansion. What could this new chest be? Perhaps a new cursed chest? Definitely something to speculate about.

    I'm sure there are a number of goodies coming our way when Cursed Sails finally releases, we know how Rare loves their surprises. We also have the previously confirmed Alliances coming as well.

    • New flag types for creating an allicance
    • Being able to split treasure with allicance
    • Seeing allied ships on world map
    • As well as the ability to place voyages on ally ships
      It is still not confirmed whether or not reputation will also be shared and exactly what the alliance limit will be.

    Sad to say, but I'm actually not looking forward to it. I think the idea of adding a Npc ship is not going to be fun and goes against one of the biggest themes of the game.

    I don't like what I've heard about cursed cannonballs.

    I like alliances, but I worry that the silence about how it is going to loot split means that it may possibly break the game (or they still are not sure how to make it work)

    I don't know why I have such a negative attitude toward it.. I've generally loved most of what we've had so far (cept the grindiness of the weekly events).

    This update just feels like something one does 2 years into the life of a game to drastically change up the formula. Not something 4months after release of a game not completely flushed out of the basic concept.

    @dcr-lt-kanada I would have probably done Foresaken Shores first. The "explorer" base of the game is the highest.. and the world map.. just feels small and not enough to explore because most of the map is under water.

    I would expand on the magic and lore of the world. This would be bringing the statues into giving abilities like being able to breathe underwater or even use them as the "bubble" mechanic in most underwater playformers.. then maybe having underwater Merfolk areas to explore.

    I would expand on the voyages the most... expanding the types of puzzles and ways of completing them.

    I would enhance PvP by giving the ability to pry off boards. Not get players drunk. Because being in a forced drunk state will not be fun in combat.

    And instead of a new ship, I would have concentrated on finding a way to balance the two ships we have in a way that would allow oversized crews.

    Once the grindiness of the first 150 levels is releaved.. I would expand on PL and make there be a reason to even get to PL, or to do something after being PL.

    Heck, I would rather PL's have the ability to spawn AS a ghost crew handingly a ghost ship with their goal being to sail in a particular path before the server attacked them... then I would to see a NPC ghost ship. Their reward would be a large cut of the loot.

    So many things I would rather see then some NPC ship sailing the sea when I was told from the start that the true threat of the game would be the other players in the game..

    @puck269 you've definitely given this a lot of thought. Perhaps they made they push in this direction based off demand. A new ship and new enemies were high on the suggestion list for awhile.

    I'm tempering my expectations. I'm happy with with the value I have already received with over 2000 nautical miles under my belt. Everything else is gravy.

    I’m hoping that the NPC ships will be unrelenting with cannon fire with incredible accuracy that will destroy unprepared crews and those that are server jumping thinking that they can score easy loot.

    I'm nervous about the cursed cannon balls as well. I hope it isn't a random buff. I hope you can select what buff to apply when you shoot it in PVP. I prefer keeping the game simple with bananas, planks, and cannon balls being the only items. Maybe different types of shot i.e. chain shot, and grape shot would be nice.

    I agree on prying off the planks with a shovel.

    I would love the ability to take out peoples sails when they run.

    Focusing on increasing server capacity prior to this alliance system would be nice also. I envision a group taking a server over and forcing anyone who doesn't join the alliance off the server by camping them til they leave. The server capacity isn't high enough to effectively form a second alliance to combat this threat.... oh well.

    @treefittymonsta you really think Rare would allow a server wide alliance? Seems kinda out there, I don't think that the aim. 2 or 3 crews max I think.

    Next week is probably going to be the most exciting week since game launch. So many new features are regularly released but this is the most anticipated. Its basically going to be a mobile fort for us to chase down (or be chased by).
    Coupled with some new additions to treasure chests and loot, as well as an entirely new ship type for everyone to play with, its fair to say we are always being looked after by Rare when it comes to content.

    Keep up the great work guys, we appreciate it.

    @dcr-lt-kanada The skull forts have gotten better aim since this last patch...... so my fingers are crossed and I’m trembling with excitement. PLUS I hope the NPC ship can and will shoot on both sides at the same time at different ships.

    @puck269 I agree but it sounds like forsaken shores is gonna be one of the biggest updates so far and from what it sounds it needs huge lead time.

    I think they said up to six ships in the interview. I think this sea of friends c**p has to go. But sometimes don't understand rare.

    On the SDCC stream the first thing the rare developers did was sink a galleon at sanctuary (which I was ok with, sink everyone u see), but they seem to be directing content towards cooperation. I'm so confused with this developer.

    So ur ok with weekly events becoming biweekly... And now it sounds like there will be no weekly event this coming week. So much for regular events.

    @treefittymonsta I see this weekend as a well deserved rest from bi-weekly events. Just work on some levels over the weekend, smash out some forts and just catch up with friends on the seas.
    I don't mind the events being bi-weekly, i can usually knock them over in the first week, but there are quite a few people in my community who don't have as much time to play and really appreciate the events running for longer.
    Im actually just now organising to help a mate finish off his remaining 30 mermaids tonight before the event ends

    Having a significant problem with this event. Multiple times we have been pummeling a ship that is practically stopped, and it just despawns.

    This is getting really infuriating. We didn't try and bait the ship out of range, we were just chasing it. Massive waste of time for this error to keep happening.
