Sea of Thieves Needs a Better Voice Chat System

  • Playing Sea of Thieves with friends on console is fun, but the current voice chat system has a big flaw: when you’re in a private party to keep enemies from hearing your plans, you can’t hear or talk to other crews at all. This makes it hard to negotiate alliances, taunt rivals, or even just enjoy the game’s social side.
A simple fix would be to add a one-button toggle between party chat and game chat, similar to Arc Raiders. That way, you could quickly switch to talk to other players without leaving your crew’s private channel. It would make the game more immersive and strategic, especially for console players who rely on voice chat.

  • @swiler9973 Agreed. I feel the pain for console players having to tab out the game to switch to party / game chat. xD

  • When I used to play on console I did manage to figure out a work around.

Using the official xbox headset I was able to connect to both the console and my phone simultaneously. The run discord on my phone with an in game push to talk button (a usb foot pedal works great on the xbox) . A little janky but it worked.

Xbox party chats on the phone wouldn't recognise the headset mic, so I used a USB lav mic which did work. Discord worked with no issues.

How is this bad? If your crew is in the party.

  • @burnbacon If you want funny encounters (I usually play in Xbox party chat) or if you want to infiltrate another crew.
But yeah, if you just want to play normally—no interaction or just sink other ships—the party mode works.
