Pirate Lairs

  • That's right your own Pirate Lair !!

I think this idea has been in the back of my mind for quite some time, but today when I came across Herman's supply cache i think that's when the idea finally became more clear. I was like, we need our own areas like this in the game.

I'm a social player as I struggle with cognitive and vision issues so there's many parts of the game I can't fully enjoy. But one of them I do enjoy and love is just casually exploring the massive open world and really having a good look at all the cool areas that the developers have made like Wanda's lab, the Tricksters lair on Sailors Bounty the Pirate Legend and the Reapers underground area and lets not forget Glitterbeards clubhouse.

So what would a Pirate's Lair in my mind look like ? It would be an extension of your Captaincy in a way, much as you get to decorate your ship with your cosmetics, trophies and trinkets your pirate lair would be the same but More. Essentially all of your stuff would be in here, some displayed neatly in certain places, the rest in crates, boxes, hanging from the ceiling, whatever really. You'd be able to custom craft your area with beds, bunks, tables cooking, benches, chairs, exterior docks, gates, lifts, masts, ladders etc. You could have a few cannons, capstans etc lying around. Maybe other ship crests from other ships you've sunk are displayed.

There's plenty of unused areas all over the world that could be used to place these lairs that wouldn't get in the way of existing tall tales, or quests. The blank mountains rocks that dot the seas, under smaller islands, underwater caves... etc anywhere really that wouldn't interfere with regular adventures. You could designate a small blank space in certain areas and have a limited forge tool to access so that you can sculpt your own personal space that way making every space unique and having their entrances in different spots and accessed in certain ways.

These would only spawn in while you are playing and other players can discover and access them too during the session. Maybe there's a secret way to unlock the lair that other players would have to solve before getting in just to make it interesting (a key nearby, playing a song, moving an object/s) ,and there would be obvious clues that a lair is close by. Might be super obvious like a cave entrance on the side of a rock with that pirates banner on it. Some might be a trap door in the ground of a small island that is buried with brush.. I dunno. Once inside you'd just look around much like you already do when you jump aboard someone else's ship and go.. ooo, ahhh. Maybe you could make your mark somewhere by carving your name into something or signing a logbook with a message. I think you should be able to store loot in your lair, as much as you want or can fit and it stays there until you take it out..... ORRR another pirate discovers your lair and loots it. (Or adds to it lol) Would be a great game for tuckers as they could follow you to your lair and then rob you as soon as you leave. (maybe don't put a reapers chest in there if you want to keep your lair a secret) I don't know how you'd solve for an overlap if there by chance was another pirate that had built a lair in the designated space. Maybe you'd have access to building 2-3 lairs max and if by chance other players in the server have built in the same space neither lair would spawn and you'd just have to move onto your other one until they leave. I dunno.

Maybe this idea is too much and silly. But I've been thinking about it all day. So now I've put it to paper and hopefully I can get on with the rest of my day. I mean, we are getting Owls. Surely we can get lairs too ;)

Thanks for listening to my GrogTalk. Till next time. yarggghhhh.

One of the many things I love about this game is seeing the unique ways that people approach their adventures so this is awesome to read.

I dunno if they would ever put the resources into what you suggested but I think it would be awesome if they did.

I always thought it would be cool to create a page for pirates where they could design a sort of interactive pirate profile that they could share, like a pop-up book for a pirate's story. Where people can decorate it with mementos from their adventures.

  • @wolfmanbush Thanks Wolf. I don't think so either as I can imagine it would be quite the project. It was one of those thoughts though that was really rattling around my brain today and I kept finding myself day dreaming all over the place thinking about it so I wrote it down here and now I'm better. lol It would be so cool though I think, I want my own hide-out in the SoT.

pop-up pirate tales sounds fun. If you ever end up making a post about it please send me the link so I can read your vision.

  • @oosnip3r I think guilds give a really good opportunity to start somthing like this

  • @oosnip3r I want a hideout with a room that displays my wealth in the form of an ever growing and shrinking treasure pile like the hoard at tribute peak but it grows and shrinks based on how much gold and doubloons you have naturally other players wouldn't be able to raid this treasure pile it would be more of a for show type thing

  • The paradox with housing/guild house/hideout is this.

If it is instanced, then everyone has one and almost no one ever sees it.

If it is on the map, then everyone sees it but there is not enough space on the map for everyone to have one.

  • @Foambreaker you could invite players. Perhaps have all our pets out in said lair

@Captain-Fob4141 I think guild hideouts would be nice, and we have a room in the hideout that's just ours.

  • @xxx-link-xxx-12

The room in Fable 3 that filled and Scrooge McDuck's Money Bin.

(Also needs a dive emote now...)

What if lairs were instanced and became a new starting point?
Let me explain myself. I remember the Maiden Voyage is an instanced area where there are limits and only ome way out that is towards the Sea of Thieves. Now imagine something similar, like every guild has it's own social island that could be a but similar to a Sea Fort, but with other stuff, or perhaps a large building in an island in an instanced area. And players could choose if they want to start on the High Seas normally (awakening on the tavern like always) or start from the guild house and then they either cross a rocky portal or dive and resurface on the normal seas.

And the Guild House could have trinket spots like captained ships or the tavern but everyone in the guild can see those trinkets, who placed them and how did they get them. A place where a crew can gather to plan ahead before getting into the seas, or share the stories of their sessions, or wait for guild members to appear before they start their voyages. And of course the guild houses would need to offer even more social stuff to be motivated to be there and spend time with their colleagues.

This is just a wild idea that needs some polishing.

You could just invite people...sail for 10m. You lose loot, flags, etc similar to a TT hop.

  • A map creator would be awesome for this kind of thing imo but even if they gave us a choice of like 10 or so different island types and players get to customise it how they want would be cool as well.

The blank mountains rocks that dot the seas,

I've always wanted them do add strange little docks, perhaps with a small vault door that's opened by a puzzle/code with hidden taverns inside or something

  • This is what I was always hoping the "legend hideout" would be in year 1.

  • @pithyrumble yes I couldn't remember where I had seen it but like that room yes

    Me: Come see my hideout!
    Crew: Cool, nice (secretly yawn)
    *crew leaves*

    Instanced housing = empty
Housing on map = not enough map
Ship on map = perfect ☠️

  • @oosnip3r I like this but to ensure people can't just take over your lair it should probably be in the sea of the damned

  • Mike Champan has talked about this in the past. You ship would start there, you crew up, set up then dive to join a server.

  • Not sure I'd be too keen on clicking all the buttons just to set sail, load into a hideout and then get on the ship and hit another loading screen to get into the game. The menu is already bad enough and all of this would need to be skippable.

  • Wow man, I've put my ideas in a post the other day but this is great, hope they add this into the game, and a guild management! Epic
There are a lot of cool islands And if not they could add lairs in places out of the mal like N13

  • My guess is that if we get this it maybe guild oriented but prolly in season 24+
