NEW area of the map

  • At the moment I like the map how it is, however there is one Big problem with sea you thieves right now and everything is FOMO and unless you get the cosmetic or thing right then and there you’re gonna miss it which I don’t think a lot of people enjoy including myself I would like to see new permanent Contant for example a new area of the map this area would be similar to the devil’s roar, however on the complete opposite side of the map where the devil roar lies, and it would be an arctic area with blizzards and glaciers that float around to stop your ship or damage it when you’re sailing and this could include new kinds of fish to get, this could include different kinds of cannon balls like: ice balls, or something like that. This could include a lot of new content for the game and I know that it could take a lot of time to get right but I think if done well It would be a very good change for the game and will bring a lot of players back and a lot of attention to the game. And in this update you could change or rework navel combat to make it where boarding is not as necessary to winning a battle.

SoT is in the Caribbean so I suspect an arctic area won't happen. Mike Chapman has said it won't happen. The map can't really get bigger for technical reasons.

And yes there are Volcanoes in the Caribbean.

  • Another ice location post….

  • We could have teams of sled parrots pulling a sled with a ship on it?

Oh, when and where did I say this? I missed it...

Ah yes, the region of the Caribbean where every island has a volcano and they spew fiery boulders. I know it well...

  • @lordqulex

Volcano's are climate independent, meaning you can have a volcano under a glacier in the arctic, or on a tropical island.

However, Ice flows in a tropical area? Hard to do.

Having said that, it's a game, and not a terribly realistic one, so I don't mind the idea. Though, honestly, an "ice zone" just isn't that interesting to me. I'd say if we were to get a whole new region, let's go lore-wise and add in a summoned area of the sea of the damned. Add in ghostly islands, phantoms, and stuff like that and make the zone feel unique to SOT.

@lordqulex said in The Icy Wastes (Massive Seasonal/Content Suggestion):

With mermaids and sirens and magical tridents and temples that hold cursed treasure and an entire plane of existence where memories become reality. Yep, let's introduce reality to a game where we shoot each other out of cannons to kill each other in and endless cycle of life, death, and resurrection perpetuated by a ghostly man on a magical boat...

The shroud yawns open to reveal a new region, at its center an ancient temple. Approaching the ancient temple, the temperature drops dramatically and the icy wind gusts against your face. For those strong enough to fight against the breeze, a portal to the Sea of the Damned can be seen as the source of this blizzard, the gusts far too strong for any man to approach or pass through it. After some time, the breeze cooled the surrounding area enough for rain to become snow, topical islands to become frozen tundra where only the heartiest of plant life survives.

    mic drop

  • I like your idea. In fact, I had a similar idea, which I have written in my topic : "Arctic Desert" (If you are interested). Overall nice idea, I like it.

  • @captain-coel yeah. But a vulcano area with ashen Lords which throws fire is no Problem. Alright.

  • @lordqulex

Mike Chapman has said it won't happen.

Oh, when and where did I say this? I missed it...

Didn’t exactly say it won’t happen, but it would require a huge change within the game and a lore reason, which makes sense.

    Here:

Sea of Thieves is deep in the Caribbean. If snow ever were to happen, it would be due to a curse or something fantastical, not due to climate 😉

I mean, that leaves the door wiiiiiiiiiiiide open for current islands to be covered in snow due to a curse/event/adventure/whatnot, or a new area being revealed when the shroud yawns revealing a cursed area...

    Thanks for your source @Tesiccl!

  • @lordqulex they’ve also said they cannot expand the current map due to technical limitations so no ice place in the Caribbean UNLESS a cursed event happens OR we visit somewhere in the sea of the damned that’s cold. That’s the only logical way to introduce something. Not just glue it to the side of the current map, that is stupid and I think it’s about time players realise this who ask for it.

    Also, you’re welcome :)

  • @tesiccl I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I like the solution I proposed a while ago:

The shroud is said to "breathe" by waxing here and waning there. They could have rotating regions.

One week the DR is available, the next week the shroud covers it and the ice region opens up. Next week the shroud moves again and a desert region is available...

There are a lot of ways to manipulate assets loaded into memory and rendering distances...

  • @lordqulex I like rotational content, gimme that.

  • @lordlost3367 adding a new region wont likely happen very soon mainly due to technical limitations.

Adding more ships to the server is basically a no-go it was a no-go even before they had to dial it back to 5 ships per server for a long time and the servers still aren’t always happy with it being at 6 again.

Adding a new region would mean people would be even more spread out if no ship limit cap changes can occur

However, something that might happen and would be more easily doable is having multiple maps so to speak, with the technology they have created with a pirates life they could “easily” create a secondary world that you need to travel to per portal for instance

But wouldn't that mean even emptier seas than we already have because everyone will be in the new area? And what will happen to that area once everyone gets "done" with it?

  • @personalc0ffee it could be but with correct server merging it could be fine

  • @callmebackdraft said in NEW area of the map:

Honestly, I think it would just be another Roar situation.

  • No one like the devil's roar, just use some excuse of "magic" and get rid of the fiery roar and make it icy. I mean goodness gracious, its a game not a simulator, we don't need things to be realistic.

  • @tangotime8578 all good fantasy has to have established rules to make it successful, so some things have to be based in reality. Yes we can have magic and monsters which is great, but location, climate, time era, these are things which are hard rules that can’t be broken without a substantial way of justifying it, specifically for this game.
