Introduce a year pass collection in the emporium

  • I had a conversation with people in the official Sea of Thieves discord, and they told me that there might be a possibility that items from season passes may come to the Pirate Emporium, but it seems like Rare does not yet know how to introduce them, which is where my suggestion comes in:

At the end of a year, Rare could release a collection of items from the season passes of that whole year. For example, "The 2021 pass collection" where people can buy the items. Maybe even adding new items to sets that were already introduced, but are not complete, for example: the Dark Phoenix ship set. Waiting after the year is done may even give Rare time to get feedback regarding which sets were a hit, and thus, would consider completing.

I have not yet seen separate clothing items being introduced to the Pirate Emporium, but I don't think there is anything wrong with doing so; maybe Rare can set a precedence with the year pass collection, and introduce clothing items to the Pirate Emporium that are not full costumes.

If Rare ends up liking this idea, and for some reason, feel concerned about balance issues, such as the possibility of this idea ruining the goal of getting the items during a season, I have to point out that:

    1. Getting the items during the season is much cheaper than getting them later, so there is still incentive to get them during the season.

    2. Maybe the year collection can be for a limited time. Either only once, or something that occurs for all season years, but only during one annual season. For example, only in January, we get the collections available in the Emporium, and after that, we have to wait until the current season year is over, and for next year to get season items in the Emporium again.

  • @arasanpynkflame I just had this conversation there too. But anyway.. musicmee said in POSSIBILITY TO CONTINUE THE PLUNDER PASS OF THE LAST SEASONS:

Cosmetics from previous Seasons and Plunder Passes will be making the way back into the game at some point (minus the season specific rewards) - this was the decision Sea of Thieves took when designing Seasons. However, when they will return no one knows just yet.

The emporium would fit things in the plunder pass. Other items should be locked being certain commendation.

The pirate legend curse could be level 20 Athena and the other cosmetics could be tied to the season.

  • this really isn't much different than your thread about leveling up the season pass with ancient coins

The game thrives on activity and should focus on activity not just letting everyone buy everything without the activity.

  • @wolfmanbush Rare already stated they are interested in introducing the items to the Pirate Emporium. This part is not me, its Rare. This suggestion is merely on the "how". It's the less wild form of my previous suggestion, if you will.

  • @aribalam said in Introduce a year pass collection in the emporium:

That is actually not bad at all. It introduces variety, and definitely solves the issue I talked about regarding clothing items. I really like the Pirate Legend thing too; Pirate Legend items indeed can be locked behind Pirate Legend/Athena commendations as well.

  • @arasanpynkflame i agree with wolf this is just another way to pay for items in a season pass without actually doing the season pass

  • Rewards in the seasons that are branded after the season theme, like the Season 4 Siren's Wrath titles or the sails, are probably never coming back.

Other season track items, like Wanda's Spyglass, are coming back in the future and probably locked behind a commendation. They haven't been clear on how long this will take, since they want some time exclusivity given to players who earned them through playing in that season, but they are coming back eventually.

Items in the Plunder Pass are usually available in the Pirate Emporium after the season ends.

It's a pretty fair system IMO.

  • @greatfailure82 I repeat, Rare themselves said they are considering doing this. This suggestion is about HOW they should do it. Something they already said they might do.

Wait, they already are?? Are you sure?

Yes. For example, the Shining Pegasus costume which was the level 100 Plunder Pass item from season 3 is available for purchase for 999AC.

  • @d3adst1ck That is definitely good news. It means there is wiggle room for at least some items to be re-introduced.

What do you mean? I already outlined how the items are being reintroduced.

  • @arasanpynkflame yea and your suggestion is that everyone pays for them, which again is paying for season pass items without doing the season pass

  • @d3adst1ck Yes, and I called it good news, and affirmed it to be a suitable solution (that I was unaware of) to my suggestion.

  • @greatfailure82 It isn't me who suggested this. It is Rare who implicitly did. As D3ADSTICK pointed out, they already did this with the Pegasus costume. I really am trying to communicate to the best of my abilities that what I am suggesting is NOT different from what Rare already wants to do.

I am not suggesting they do this. They already did, and want to do more of it. I am suggesting how. Or more specifically, one possible design for what they ALREADY want to do, for SOME items.

I really hope you understand what I am saying here; I am not suggesting something new. I am suggesting an approach to something old.

  • @arasanpynkflame yea i understand what your saying, and that is you want to add more paid options to the game to support people who for whatever reason dont complete a season pass. your not advocating for something already being done like you try to claim your advocating for a separate paid for year pass. because if it were you wouldn't have a suggestion would you. you'd basically be saying hey SoT please keep doing what your already doing

  • @arasanpynkflame @greatfailure82 I think it should be made clear that PAID Plunder Pass items have explicitly been stated to be designed for re-introduction via the Emporium. The same cannot be said about the regular Season items that are free to the community by progressing through the season.

  • @greatfailure82 Yeah, I get that. You can see from my interaction with D3ADSTICK that I actually wasn't aware of what Rare were already doing, but they informed me that they did that. I didn't know they were already doing it before I made the post.

  • @sweetsandman That is a fair and interesting point. I agree, and I can see that

  • Only the 5 "season comsetics" (flag, sails, makeup, tattoo, and scars) will be exclusive items, everything else from a season pass will return. Predictably, Rare has handled the re-release of these cosmetics pretty badly, and with very little communication as to when they will ever come back beyond vague assurances that they eventually will; though the paid items from past plunder passes return almost immediately lol.

I wish the season pass items would return as fast as plunder pass items do, I feel bad for the players who missed them having to wait for so long qq (especially since season cosmetics are like the only new clothing we get that aren't just recolors)

I'm still confused about your "they consider it"...it was said from the beginning, that these things come back...why is this still a thing to discuss? Most season stuff will come back and plunder pass items come into the emporium...as far as I remember this has been said from the beginning

I suggested this because, originally, I discussed this with the Sea of Thieves Discord server. Some of them said that there is a possibility that although Rare want to do it (like you said), they might still be unsure of HOW to do it and implement it (i.e. the most effective method). I expressed my idea in chat on one possible way HOW to do it, and they recommended I make a suggestion of it in the forums.

So in conclusion, yes, Rare already said they want to do this, and this is a suggestion on one possible way of HOW to do it, just in case my feedback is helpful in any way!

  • @arasanpynkflame they know how...and that has also been said, unlocked through commendations...
I guess the only thing that's not sure, is the WHEN..

  • @NEON-iC0N @Schwammlgott @ArasanPynkFlame

I feel like I've asked this in 100 different threads and nobody ever answers. Where did Rare say that Season items (non-paid) would be coming back?

When seasons were announced, they explicitly said in a couple different videos that the paid Plunder Pass items would return (to the Emporium). I can't find anything where they guaranteed that regular season items would be available after the season. I watched the Mike and Joe interview, the Season intro, and a couple other things, and nothing. I mean I might be wrong but for the life of me I can't find anything...and I usually keep up pretty well on all their media platforms

  • @sweetsandman Not sure about outside of the forums in video, twitter, interviews, etc... but inside the forums archives you'd probably find what you're looking for probably around the time that Season 1 ended.

Around that time a lot of players got answers from support requests asking about those items, if you put any stock in that or not. Example:

  • @sweetsandman check your PMs. Hope this helps :D

Seasonal items mentioned include: Sails, Flags, Tattoos, Scars and titles. Everything else should be back at some point. Some sort of update on the status of these by the devs would be much appreciated.

    Also the silent barnacle figurehead.

  • @d3adst1ck @Ninja-Naranja

Hmm...while pretty vague and not really broadly announced, I guess it gives people some hope that items will return...but, we're about to enter Season 5 and not a single item has been brought back...

As a side, I know that Pirate Legend items that players achieve the seasonal level for, but don't achieve Pirate Legend until after the season DO in fact get those PL items that they achieved the level for. Example: Achieve level 100 in Season 1, but aren't a PL, then get PL the next season, you get the PL curse.

    Beyond that, we'll see.

Honestly, I hope they don't bring back items from the Seasons. Maybe do some re-skins of the more prolific items, but it makes the seasons feel way less special if stuff starts coming back.
