Open Crew options?

  • Hello, I am fairly new to the Sea of Thieves and I have been enjoying it quite a bit. However there are many times where I don't have any mates to sail with and as such am either forced to go it alone or try my luck with open crew.

Thing is, open crew is great if you are just looking to sail, but if you are wanting to do something specific, it's not so great. You not only have to wait for players that will stick around, but will agree with what you want to do. So I figured some sort of tagging system may be beneficial for open crews so you get like minded players on a boat together. If you want to do fleets, tall tales or something like run a Reaper's emissary ship, just put that as a tag and be grouped up with with players who also have that tag. It would make life a bit easier for those with less friends to play with.

  • If you have access to discord, go find the SoT channel and look for a group there. You can easily find some like-minded players with whom you can crew up with.

Open crews can be fun for screwing around, and sometimes you get a good crew. But they can also suck.

I've open crewed plenty of times and dropped within a couple of minutes of connecting. I'll especially do so if my new crewmate isn't voice enabled.

  • You can also use the Xbox Live LFG (Looking for Group) tool. You can look for groups interested I the same content, or you can set up your own group and screen players who join. The open crew option is not good if you want to get anything done. With open crew, you are likely to get one or two players who continually drop your anchor, set your ship on fire, toss your loot overboard, and eat all your food. I wouldn’t recommend it. Use Discord or LFG instead.

  • @vin-delanos Thank you for your input, I shall keep it in mind.

Use the official Sea of Thieves discord, they have over 160,000 players and there are constantly people asking for someone to join their crew.
