Separate area just for fishermen

    My twin brother and I love to fish on Sea of Thieves. We are 67 years old and have very little experience playing video games. Whenever pirates attack us all we can d![alt text](image url)o is leave the game. It’s especially disappointing when we have 30-40 fish cooked and ready for sale at a seapost.

    We would love to be able to fish in an area without pirates attacking us. No weapons of any sort. I know several areas have been made that you can enter at the beginning of the game. Any chance fishermen could have their own area. My brother and I have plenty of challenges just sailing the ships and avoiding the islands in the ocean. We would rather not play with young kids who can get on our boat and kill us before we realize what is going on.

    @socialbus104645 The older I get the more wisdom and experience I gain. As someone who also does not like to PVP unless you have no choice, I have learned to adapt.
    Don't let 30-40 cooked fish be stored on your boat. Store a bunch in a row boat and one of you row to the nearest Sea-post to sneak your loot in for redemption. You guys are smarter than the average toxic kid on the seas.
    One person should concentrate on fishing while the other cooks and stays on the lookout on the horizon. Organize all of your cursed cannonballs and have them loaded and at the ready.
    Don't trust anyone and you can make the game enjoyable by ADAPTING to its reality. Cheers and best of luck on the seas!

    Solution: don't play a pirate game if all you want to do is fishing without meeting pirates and weapons. Otherwise, learn to survive while you are fishing, it is a pirate game, you know.

    I’m sure that Rare will be delighted to here some of you say that SoT is only a Pirate game.

    Odd though, because on other threads it’s argued that SoT is very much more than just a Pirate game.

    To the OP. If you just want to fish then you just want to fish. No law against it.

    You can’t have a separate area for fishing but what you can do for is use the game to your advantage.

    As suggested, get a rowing boat. Choose where you’d like to fish and either hide your sloop at the island or better, anchor it one island away. Row to destination, hide rowing boat and fish all you want. If (when) your sloop is sunk just remember that others can see your mermaid. The rowing boat can hold a lot of fish and you can cook over a camp fire. When ready you’ll have to row to a port so consider this when choosing location.

    You will be discovered from time to time and due to the average mentality of players you’ll be shot immediately. Don’t get discouraged, just go find another island. Do try to “cash in” your fish as often as possible. A Seapost makes a decent fishing spot for this reason. Non active forts can also be good if you anchor elsewhere.

    Anyway, good luck and be sure to try the rest of the game from time to time. Treasure hunting is easy enough.

    For right now I would use Lost Gold Fort, it's not on the quests for black powder runs and it's a PITA of an island.

    Also it's in easy rowing distance of plunder outpost

    If you refer to me, I did not write it is only a pirate game. I wrote it is funny to play a pirate game without wanting to meet pirates and weapons. This is a small difference, isn't it? And I have no idea what others write in other threads, we are here to speak for ourselves, aren't we.

    Back to the OP: this is a one post wonder. Just one more of those funny people who drop in, talk trash and quit.

    I think you need big sea bass fishing not Sea of Thieves (Its a pirate game). Having somewhere to go to attack all the fishermen while they are not looking would save some sailing about.

    Here's me in me early 40's, great to see some "older" timers on the Seas!

    If you are fishing together, fish in different directions to at least cover possible avenues of attack.
    Just keep a watchful eye between casting.
    Don't fish with blindspots.

    Seapost are great to fish from.
    Just load up before hand with your bait of choice from digging up at a nearby island.

    My favourite Seapost is "Spoils of Plenty"... approaching vessels, basically will either come from the East or South, so you can cover these areas pretty well, just keep an eye occasionally to the North.

    Catch your 5 or 6 fish each, and cook in turns, turning them in as soon as to the Seapost.
    If you chose to park up at one... you couldn't have made it any easier for yourselves.
    If you are cooking this clears you to watch that horizon.... you don't have to stare at the cooking fish the whole time.

    If you are lucky enough to catch a "Rare" fish keep it on you until such time you can sell... just be careful not to eat :)
    First sign of trouble... grab what fish you can (pricey ones), and keep them in your inventory.

    Anyhow... good luck out there, just keep your eyes out, and cash in often... don't store up 30-40 fish.

    Little pro tip... place some fish in the barrels ( a few to throw off the scent ), if you have a rowboat pop the bulk in there.
    Amazing that the rowboat tends never to get a second look :)
    Unless they are in the market for one of course

    This is a Pirate game about sailing the seas, getting loot, and encountering others who may align with you or steal from you. All of it is meant to feel unpredictable and as if anything could happen literally at any time.

    Adding any sort of certainty to player interactions (such as disabling PvP) would interfere with that concept in a negative way.

    There are plenty of fishing simulators out there, but Sea of Thieves isn't one of them.

    You know, I almost read "Seperate Fishing Arena" And was like: "Woah a fishing arena where you fish competatively to see who is the best?! That's cool!"

    But no, you want safe zone to fish in.
    Honestly there is already a few really safe zones to fish.

    1. Outer areas of the map (just outside the shroud)
    2. Inside the shroud (equip the shroudbreaker)
    3. Devils Roar (almost no-one goes there)

    You can't catch many different fish but honestly if rare ever made a safe zone don't expect to catch anything except normal Ruby splashtails anyway).

    Get a row boat on your ship. Find a shipwreck near a Sea Post.

    Loot barrels on the shipwreck for fish once every 24 minutes(they respawn)
    Fish for Wreckers at the shipwreck(you will need earthworms)
    Turn in fish before you get too many
    Repeat

    You can put up the offer alliance flag as well, it might not save you from pirates but being so close to the Sea Post most people will know what you are doing and might ally for easy Hunters Call rep

    Sail a Brig, even if it's just two of you. This could deter some sloops from attacking you and gives you room on the ship to invite another pvper to help you if you need it.

    You may not be able to fight but you can learn to out sail them.

    You can unload several cannon shots on them as they sail up on you to make them think twice or give you a chance to escape.

    You can sell more often.

    In my opinon sloop/galleon > brig. I really hate the brig, its a terrible ship with a terrible design (in my eyes at least).

    With a sloop you are really flexible, so when a ship is coming after you, or a bigger ship, just turn circles around islands, go against the wind(sloop is faster against the wind then brigs/gallys). Overall just play smart :)

    @mentimjojo Brigs can harpoon turn around islands and rocks. It's not as easy for a sloop to get away as it used to be. A Brig with a competent crew is lethal.

    It's unfortunate that you and your friend feel as if you can't play the game but not everything is for everyone. There are other games where you can fish coop which I would assume would be a lot more fun then SoT in the first place. The fishing in this game is just a time sink. No real skill. Just wait till fish gets tired and reel it in.

    If you can't defend yourself id say try to find another game. I don't want to chase you away but I don't want them changing the game for players who dont want to play the game either. Sorry but good luck.

    Hello Sir , there is no need to leave this game ...You and yer Brother play , yes , Great! Absolutely Great and no this is no Forumtroll sarcasm...Now if you enjoy purely and solely the fishing ,then try to " alternate " yer fishing.
    Cut me a bit slack sir ,i'm a foreigner but i try what alternating means , or t at least what i try to say...Take the time that you catch a fish, let us say , 4 minutes for example, then you start fishing first , yer Brother goes to the crowsnest for 2 minutes , scan the enviroment and comes then down if nothing is to be seen and start fishing.2 minutes later you catched yer fish and you go up for two minutes to scan the enviroment...The chances that you get boarded are halved by now...Also cash in a bit more often , i do feel that losing 30 to 40 cooked fish is hurting...And if you see a ship coming in , don't panic , keep the capstan up , all the time during fishing. Now you see some Pirates coming to you and you can already feel what they are up to ... Then just drop the sails , you or thy Brother aims the sails in the wind and if they come closer to you , then use yer sloops manoeverability to turn them silly...

    Show those snotties that 67 year old man are not that easy to fool with...Remember this Good Sir: You are not old , you play Videogames and those people only age on the outside but NEVER on the Inside...You're not Old , you're a Classic ...Now what are ye waiting for , catch those beautiful fish and give them a long run for their money if they try to catch you and your Brother ...

    Don't underestimate yourself ,Sir ,You have a much bigger " Experience tank " to take from than us , i bet there are more than one trick upon thy sleeves that could make us stand speechless with open eyes in amazement...

    Never let anyone , nomatter what age or skill let you quit this game , Sir...Enjoy the Fishing and Journey's...

    How can you store your fish on a rowboat? Someone else suggested it but I don’t know how to leave the fish on the rowboat.

    I’ve never heard of the Spoils of Plenty seapost. I’ve only used the North Star seapost and the at the Three Paces East seapost. Are there others?

    Kudos to everyone here that gave this guy tips and tricks. Telling someone that this is not there game and to play a different one is not the way to go. Anyone here that loves the game should be spreading it not telling people to play something else.

    @socialbus104645 to help with a few answers, there are 2 seaports in each region. North Star and 3 Paces East are just 2 of the more convenient ones.

    When looking at the rowboat there is the sea with the oars, the middle seat, and the back seat. The back seat is also a storage chest, take a look, you might have to move your cursor around to get it.

    Hiya Matey! yip seaposts all over the map... the one I talk about is in the far West of the the map (NW more so, south of Sailors Bounty... It's lovely over there ).. really good place as nothing really can come for you from the West (no more map :) ).

    You can play the game fairly passively if you tune your skills. Pirates on the seas for all sorts of reasons, you just need to tune your "sneeky" skills, be very observant, and take action before you land yourself into trouble. Stay aware, and alert, and you can deal with most situations & out smart the rest, and get your fish in!

    If you should have misfortune... just pick yourself up... learn... and as the saying goes... "Plenty more fish in the Sea"... matey!

    Also, @Clumsy-George always says it best... seriously the best poster!

    People always behave as if this game was originally a PVE game that had PVP forced upon them and now they demand a revert or a separate server for their PVE lifestyles. This attitude personally offends me and is why I attack every ship I see with an alliance flag or if someone asks me for an alliance. Get out of here with your wanna be easy mode lifestyle in a pirate game.

    If I ever see you on the seas and you ask me to leave you both alone because you are fishing, I will kill you both and take your fish for myself. I love easy fish.

    Yours is certainly a true pirates opinion, and I applaud you, SoT has the beauty of catering to many tastes & play styles.

    Sometimes.. it can appear someone is complaining... but when things are explained.. often it is just down to their play style.
    Rather than a fault or a need to alter the game.

    The game doesn't need safe zones... so agreed.
    But equally we don't need to jump to conclusions without looking at the issue, and how best to help resolve it.

    Steady on. These guys are only in their 60s. Anyone would think they’d just resurrected a mummy and got it playing.

    The first serious gamers (Quake clans and the like) will be in their 50s and 60s. Gaming isn’t some new teenage invention. I’ve been gaming 30 years and I wasn’t anywhere near being an early gamer. There are many been gaming a lot longer than me.

    I could understand the surprise if we were discussing gymnastics or wrestling but let’s be honest, gaming is hardly a physical pursuit. Thinking about it now, it suits retired people far better than youngsters. Anyone under 35 should be out playing football.

    Yes Sir , i fully support your idea to bring the Two Brothers into a Spotlight...In the Beginning of this Forum , the focus of those Spotlights were aimed at persons that showed personality or extremely beautiful " Do It Yerself " art in this very Forum...Today the focus of Spotlight has come to lay on Streamers...i don't watch Streamers because i rather use my time to experience and "Live" in the game myself...And i bet that during less thrilling moments in the game , a Streamer will talk about him/her self , just to kill the silence…

    So ,i support your idea to put the Spotlight over the Two Fishing Brothers of the Sea...And to be fully honest , if the European dictatorships oops , i mean goverments, have finally let me off from my forced labour by 67 or maybe 70 by then, while haven't hurted anyone , and there is still some life in my carcass then you will find me gaming all the time when all the housechores are done…

    i think that gaming is great on any age , we may lack speed but tricks , oh boy, we will have them by truckloads upon our sleeves by then...

    Referencing them in the way you do... is a little disrespectful, and is also not my intent ( as I'm sure... it isn't really yours )

    Just a note-worthy, unusual, and actually a rather wonderful thing.
    I don't think back in the day Joe & team sat round thinking their target audience would include twins of 67, if anything it shows me how
    accessible this game is. How we all come from different backgrounds, ages, races & creeds. This should be celebrated.

    No matter your age... young or old, you can find enjoyment & pleasure in a game that others of a certain age may take a little more for granted.
    I would love to know more. All great pirate stories deserve a platform .... this one looks as if it could be of interest, if it wishes to be told.

    You’ve misunderstood/misread my post.

    I referenced them as “only in their 60s”. The “mummy” comment is in relation to the reaction of others. I am not much younger than these guys and I’m making the point that gaming has been around more than long enough to have a lot of players in their 60s out there. Twins is cool but there isn’t need to talk about a players age. It’s no big deal.
