Forum Hostility

  • I don't understand. What is with all the hostility in the forums? I mean, yes, we all have complaints about the game. Yes, we all have opinions and ideas how to make it better for yourself and your friends. But why get hostile? 1, the forums are here for us, as a community, to make suggestion and give feedback and help one another out. 2, I understand some of you are rightfully frustrated, but why be angry on here? You really think that Rare or anyone of importance is going to care about what you say when you're angry? Being mindful, and having helpful feedback and suggestions will get you a lot farther. 3, Why waste the energy of working yourself up over a video game?
Rare has gave us this amazing game. Yes, there is a lot of work to do, but is it really a surprise that there is so many glitches? Think of what they have accomplished and enjoy the game as a whole, and stop getting yourself worked up and frustrated at a few things.

  • @sot-peglegpete are you named Pete or is your peg leg named that any way joke aside, you give good points and the saying does go “you catch more flies with honey than vinegar”. Truthfully we all just got to be open to other people’s ideas.

  • @weststormborn exactly. why are we attacking each other on these forums? As a community, we need to stick with each other, not fight against each other. Leave that for in the game! :)

  • The reality is this is a forum for good and bad. If everyone posted all happy rainbow unicorn fluff nothing would happen. Truth is there are a lot of flaws. And a lot of let downs, and people have a right to give their opinions feedbacks and frustrations. I've been playing since the beta, there are some really good moments in the game. Visuals etc, but get past that you see the honest truths. And fanboys of the game refuse to get past that. For a full value game that people payed for the content was worth 19.99 if that. This should have been a preview game not an exclusive. Here's the honest truth. The dev team had more than 3 1/2 years to develop this game. Microsoft forced them to release it and it was unfinished. At launch a lot of content was not in the actual game that had been there before. Once everyone got over the honeymoon period and the graphics, they realized the game lacked a lot. Just 3 voyage modes etc. The dev team realized this and quickly began to work on new content, and this is were the messed up. It caught them off guard. So they are still trying to play catch up. The released the hungering deep. Which week after week they made it a point to tell people that this team has has the least amount of time to work on this. hint hint it may have bugs or it might not have a lot of content. It was released with few bugs, accommodations etc. It was an ok content drop. But it had no replayability and the mission wasnt really rich most time was just spend traveling and looking at text. Then a bigger shark just swam circles. They introduced the bilge rat adventures that were a good idea, but it was just filler until they could get their feet stable. The thrones and cursed mermaids were 100%, filler to keep us distracted. The gun powered barrel skellys and cursed ships were however a great idea I'll give them that.

It's also the inconsistency that gets people upset. They say there will be weekly event right after HD. Those quickly turned into biweekly to triweekly to quadweekly. RARE is a mediocre company. And that's ok, people just need to realize this. People are like oh cool joe neate is so transparent we love it. When the reality is, he has to come up with these videos to keep people on board. And justify the delays and bugs etc. Other dev companies dont do this because they have everything in place. And the release DLCs with very very minimal problems.

Here's where I stand I've been playing since the beta and once it was released this has been the only game I've really been playing. I fell in love with it. But over time my eyes have been open to the bugs delays and missed opportunities. I've lost countless hours and loot due of game crashes and server merges. (Beause of a mediocre company) I want this game to succeed buuuut, for the time being I'm just sailing taking people's loot and sinking everyone I see. Until forsaken shores. Bit honestly my Hope's aren't that high. I feel there is still going to be a major hiccup in the release.

  • @sot-peglegpete It's the online disinhibition effect, where anonymity results in the loss of inhibitions normally present during face to face social interactions. With all things considered we have a pretty good community going here, and showing respect always goes along way.

It's important to remember that we're all just people with different perspectives and different points of view, all of which are equal.

  • I still chuckle when someone posts something they don't like about the game and declare that whatever their issue is will kill the game.

    Also, agree with @Foxdodge.

  • This game is amazing and has always had a good group behind it here on the forums. While in alpha and beta there were always “passionate” discussions about what the future of SOT would hold.
But there is never a need for personal attacks of another players opinions. Sadly I have seen a few of those recently on here.
But like anything else in the game and on the forums there will always be a few bad apples.
I say ignore them and enjoy the rest of the group.

Very well said. The company has become a shadow of it's former glory but at least it's not dead yet. I still support Rare as the Devs who make the game are clearly talented and passionate but are over worked and rushed. The core Idea and philosophy this game was built on offered a truly unique experiance but it was always an ambitious goal which Rare could only hope to reach. Only thru the struggle and constant failures. will they succeed, but it frustrating to see them repeating mistakes and providing bandaid solutions to core issues assuming those issue are adressed at all or even acknolaged as issues to begin with. All we can offer them is a bit of time and a push in the right direction. The thing is there don't have the time they need and the time they do have is being wasted on non replayable filler content.

  • @enf0rcer absolutely. That's why im still playing. There's a little glimpse of hope that they can pull it together and put out better content. Once they do that the game will have endless possibilities. There's so much potential in this game
