Huge wave of hackers

  • I haven't seen any hackers until up to this week in game. It is really getting unbearable. I posted videos and got in trouble for name shaming. I have more videos. We just lost a skull fort to 4 hackers. My videos are 100% proof and I have fallen in love with this game but it is coming to a screeching halt now. Rare do you guys have any plans on weeding out the hackers? Do you guys care? Is that why my video got deleted?

  • How were they hacking? Aimbot? Friendly-flagged so they could hit you, but you couldn't hit them? Speedhack? Triggerbot?

First video I posted was a guy who boarded our ship and grabbed our grog chest we hit him like 400 times with swords all 4 of us had him pinned in a corner and he wouldn't die.

Today at skull fort a guy climbing our ladders we shot him 4-5 times and our bullets went through him, he killed all 4 of us several times. They are using ESP. I had a guy that joined my game once who was using ESP hack and he could see all items players and ships so I know this c**p is happening. Also everyone on their crew was aimbotting.

I watched that 1st video yesterday when it was posted. Confirmed cheater for sure.

You need to provide your hacker report to Rare. Not to public forum. That is the problem since Rare needs to know if they really are hackers. We can't just throw videos that include name tags around and start witch hunt. Please post you're suspicion and proof the official way which can be found from this forum.

Your video was deleted because you broke the rules. Naming and shaming isn't allow because all it will do is start a witch pursuit thingy. Submit reports and they will be actioned. People have no faith in the system even without using it, Devs everywhere hate hackers. It's hard to stop them and they usually get nixed early but they need to find a way to counter it. It's the way of the internet, Pirates break code devs fight back. This struggle goes on longer then the crusades.

  • Since launch Ive only come up against one possible hacker. I don't think its as many as people are making it out to be. Or they are extremely unlucky.

For the moment im going with unlucky. Me and my crew have been called cheaters/hackers 4 times since release. 1 group took to xbox messages in game to accuse us..

  • @eraaam I think a big part of it is when the other team gets out played they assume the team is cheating. Which in fact is just not true. But in know there are some in there for sure.

I really wish they started giving us some numbers on how many have been reprimanded for this though. This will then show the community that they are being active about it and constantly taking actions in order to address it. As of now we kind of just have to take their word on it.

  • @irhcsajr Protip: shoot them faster than they shoot you

This was something a person here told me when I ran in to aimbotters. This was after 10 posts of him telling me I was a liar and a scrub.

What action has rare taken to stop it? Everyone knows cheating is an issue, yet the response is to essentially fill out a form and throw it down a deep hole. What are they doing about it?

Investigating. Cops don't just have someone come in and say " i saw this guy hit this guy" and go arrest him and throw him in jail there is an investigation and a trial. Same for hackers. There need to be proof and they need to check the logs and code to see what has been done and anytime you report a bug just remember you ARE helping them end hacking. They more reports they have for common hacks the easier it will be for them to identify the problem in the code and fix it from happening again. Patience. Rome wasn't built in a day.

  • They are investigating the issue and determining how to resolve and prevent the issue, while also actioning against those that they can confirm to be hacking/cheating.

Making real changes isn't as simple as flipping a "no hacking" switch. They need to identify how and where the breach is occurring, develop tools to track and verify it, write code to prevent it, test it to ensure that it doesn't create new issues, and then update it. This is not a "quick" process by any means.

  • I've experienced this twice in all my game time...annoying... but few and far between.

Both were just people that couldn't die.

The first was a definite because he wasn't even trying to avoid me shooting/slashing which I did for a few minutes.

The second was more questionable since I landed 4 out of 5 pistol shots and a blunderbuss shot. I didn't see him use a banana and he was trying to avoid me, so there's a chance there was some latency issue.

  • There seems to be some hack tools for Sea of Thieves already out there. Hopefully Rare is figuring out ways to combat it.

    I Hate cheaters.

I understand that it isn't easy. My consternation comes from how little official statements there are on the subject. I try to consume as much SoT news as possible and I recall seeing it mentioned, briefly (like...half of a sentence) in the patch notes a few weeks ago.

Does Rare have the active support of Microsoft?
Will Rare forever be playing a game of cheater whack-a-mole?
Is it even possible to prevent cheating within the framework of the game?

I hadn't seen this before my posts. Watching now.

  • They've already said that there was zero tolerance for hackers, and that they would be banned, both on the Sea of Thieves end, and on the Microsoft end.

Keep submitting to Rare via support, as they asked.

On my end, I haven't seen a single hacker.

I also haven't seen any hackers. I've been playing since day 1 and the last 3 days I've ran into quite a few.

  • Thankfully I haven't run into any yet! Although I have had a lot of hit register lag lately. Thankfully my crew-mates have been there to back me up and put out the extra damage needed to kill them through the lag.

I know we have had a couple of enemies that both of us received multiple hit markers on but they eventually died.

  • So watching that video was actually heartening. They didn't go in to any specifics as I would have liked but clearly recognizing it as an issue was good. I'll be changing my responses to topics like this. While a problem, there's hope that it will get better.

  • to everyone stating they haven't witnessed hacking, it doesn't cover the esp bug described by tc. i've seen evidence of that online as well. you would never know you were being a victim of it, and it could go undetected by rare for who knows how long.

  • I've run into four people so far. There's ZERO doubt they were using cheat programs.

Example: All four of these players could hit me with every cannon shot at pretty big distances. Not only could they hit the ship but they could also hit me every time I showed my face.

Three of them hit every single shot I saw them take with the sniper rifle. That's from a moving sloop to another moving sloop. That's some epic marksman ship for three different people.

One guy followed me all over the map, even after I scuttled twice. How was he able to find me repeatedly?

The first guy I saw was the second week of release. The next three I saw were all during various play sessions over the course of a single day.

Yup, the game is truly infected now.

  • nobody is hacking.

some people want to blame their losses on literally anything other than their own failures. this is common.

  • I fail to realize why using someone's publicly available gamer tag is known as "name shaming".

    Ridiculous.

Perhaps the community is reluctant to admit that (1) bad players abound and (2) hacking is a real issue with this game.

And I should just file a complaint, right?

Newsflash: That's useless. You don't make money by banning people from playing your game.

    HA!

    Lemme get this straight....."reprimands"?

    GET REAL.

Until Rare and Microsoft fully publish their policy for banning hackers, I'm reluctant to continue with this game.

Gosh, perish the thought that the community be made aware of bad actors. This is little more than a campaign to squelch the bad press about rampant hacking in the game.
