Bringing back old time limited cosmetics

  • Dude, this is so lame, why bring back time limited items? I liked having rare things that newer players can’t get now. There was a time that I did not play for 2 years and I missed out on those limited time cosmetics and I’m cool with it. But is ot that hard to create new cosmetics that they have to make it so the things I have had are not special now.

I do t ever get in these forums, but I had to say something, this is just super lame.

  • Sadly it's cheapest way to throw something for players.

  • Counter argument: ya know what's super lame? Time limited cosmetics.

Aside from date commemorative stuff, I'd much prefer that they just tie all cosmetics to commendations. There's hundreds upon hundreds of commendations - including old ones - that have zero cosmetics or rewards tied to them outside of a checkbox.

Unfortunately, they found a unique way to fomo content that was already fomo. Round of applause, Rare 🙄

  • Now days. Having any type of limited edition or rare item in video games is a crime against new players who came late.

    Like a participation trophy.

  • Gatekeeping pixels is lame. Put them all behind commendations, not availability to play at niche times. That's just common sense.

  • @thamb0 You realize that gatekeeping encompasses all forms of restricting access, which means comms are also gatekeeping.

You always have something to say, it's actually crazy.
Instead of arguing about semantics and trying your best to be antagonistic, you could just use common sense and understand the difference between someone advocating locking pixels behind time limited events and never bringing them back and someone saying to just put all cosmetics behind commendations, so they're always obtainable, but not just given as freebies.

  • @thamb0 I'd be fine with that if they were willing to fix a bunch of commendations that are basically unobtainable, which creates essentially the same problem if you start putting cosmetics behind them.

The end result is the same thing, so it's weird that you want to make a blanket statement that gatekeeping is bad, and then suggest gatekeeping as a solution. Some things are just going to end up being unobtainable, whether it's a login bonus, a commendation, a twitch drop or a promotional tie in.

Without saying shrouded ghost .... Which commendations are "basically unobtainable" that don't already have some kind of reward tied to them today?

Surely you can see that there's a huge difference between locking cosmetics in time, and locking cosmetics behind a commendation - even if it is challenging - that can be completed anytime with the right amount of effort/luck/cooperation/etc.

  • @sweetsandman a lot of the recent reaper ones are pretty bad, including Reaper Rivals because no one does that content anymore. Stealing commodity crates is another one for the same reason. I imagine that the 3 or 4 tomes collecting ones aren't great, and anything that requires another crew to help you do something specific that isn't going to happen unless you cheese it (eg. Horn of Winds and knocking players off a tightrope). Even the Weekender continued to do stuff like that for the challenges.

That is a common Rare problem though; pushing out features and then letting them die so they become obnoxiously frustrating if you try to do them beyond the release window. They need to refresh content and be willing to adjust bad commendations but they don't seem to be open to doing so.

If the Weekender and recent ignored feedback regarding commendations is anything to go on, they're just going to continue on the same track which makes tying more cosmetics to them a lateral move at best if accessibility of cosmetics is the issue.
