After years of being unsure I have decided; Community weekends are tone-deaf.

  • I think this season is good and I'd take it over last Season, that's just me. But my goodness do I understand the frustration that others are feeling, especially the ones that aren't interested in Hourglass.

And for this reason, I've come to the conclusion that Rares decision to hold a community weekend, and the lot of them that have ever existed, are indeed insincere.

I always thought it was me, just being a bit cynical or pessimistic about the whole thing, but nah. This time, I'm certain, that it's really a 'fake it till you make it' attempt at getting community engagement. There is absolutely nothing about this season in terms of gameplay enhancements or new features that would warrant the happy-go-lucky attitude that's shown off in their promotional and marketing material.

I rarely use the term, but it's appropriate—its toxic positivity.

    Gross.

  • @burnbacon would you be happy if somebody deliver you broke car and fix it after 3 years making a big thing from that?

Most people are very happy with the HG changes.
The only complaint is, that i took 3 years to implement features, that should have been there at release, or shortly after.

  • @dermasterbob

I really like this season too. But that doesn’t mean that the community weekend with all its pretend niceness is an appropriate on-theme event.

    The fight nights made sense.

  • @rare-jumbie
I guess so, but Rare promised that theres going to be community weekends every season and in addition to that its the sot anniversary.
Having no community weekend during that time, would also be weird.

False analogy, HG could be played - perhaps not to your liking, but apart from people cheating and runners (swhich I didn't encounter that much to be honest) it was to me enjoyable and playable.

I agree that it sure took a long time, on the other hand if these changes got introduced earlier that would have meant that other content would not have been part (or at least delayed) of the updates since its introduction.

Some people argued that it should have been done immediately, not sure if the larger part of the community would have liked having two PvP seasons in a row with even less content added to standard Adventure.

  • I love community weekend, best time of the season for me. The energy, pictures, gameplay, boosts, cosmetics, engagement with other players. It’s all there and it’s fun, even if the season content update hasn’t been huge at the beginning!

  • @burnbacon the hourglass chances are a net positive, but for an entire season is terrible. They did cut 75% of Season 19, which the entire community wanted to see in the game.

  • @rare-jumbie I had to go into my bunker, this was one of the biggest truth nukes ever. Community weekend recently feels like a desperate attempt to get people to play the game. The only people who seem to not notice this are the larpers you see in the socials who want to "get famous" off a niche dying game.

I'm not insulting anybody when I say that, but having the same people say "Let's go Community Weekend" while the game is currently in a very broken state is pure ignorance. Harpoon glitch is back, invincibility bugs are somehow a thing, and half the bugs patched in previous updates are back. There NEEDS to be an emergency hotfix because PVP (which is the core foundation of SOT) is non-functional.

  • @lem0n-curry oh it's a false dychotomy right there my friend :)
Puting fixes that came out in feedback as an alternative to whole season.

Change's introducted shoudl have be hotfixes in year one of HG.

Also false analogy? Meh it doesn't fit definition and with heavy nitpicking it's hyperbole at best.

  • @heslashthem

    Honestly, good for you.

There are so many occasions I've tried to get my friends to play the game during this event and it just doesn't stick. I remember getting a chest of wonderous secrets once and exclaiming how rare it was and they responded 'okay' because I guess they just didn't have any context?

What's advertised never really seems to fit the experience. Other crews are still generally shy and just want to do their own thing, unbothered, to maximize gold/rep gains are promoted.

I've been saying it for almost a year now that Rare needs to work on mechanics that actually improve and increase the number of options and decision making trees when spotting a ship on the horizon. The fight or flight thing has it's place but there's nothing to fit what they're advertising.

  • @rare-jumbie

I think the issue there has more to do with the fact that gold is utlimately meaningless. All u really get are cosmetics and once u get enough comsetics to fill ur pirate and ship, u start to realize the other 90% of cosmeitcs will mostly sit in ur wardrobe chests for etenrity. Most of the cosmetics bought with gold sucks regardless, the good stuff is stuck behind monetization in the emproium or the seasonal pass which makes gold even more useless.

At that point what meaning does gold really have? By extension what meaning does a super "legendary" chest have? it's not even rare, just do the event for it and u got it.
