So I did not know where to post so whoever moves it thanks.
First I wanted to say I have played since the Alpha-Release. I recently got a PC and I can run it on PC I have not had this problem before. Basically whenever I look into any inventory and move my mouse up a Window will pop up...just like on whatever browser you are using....its not a huge problem but its annoying. I was doing a skull fort earlier and me and my crew were being attacked by two sloops. long story short is that i went down to heal and get more bananas and while i was looking in the barrel i moved my mouse up to retrieve them and the window border showed up and i exited out of my game. I have no way to get back to that game since i was playing with Randoms. Normally if it was a once in a blue moon type thing i wouldn't be here asking for help with it. when ever it shows up it adds another second or so to get out of the screen...and if you are being attacked by players, The Kraken, A Meg, Skele ship, or whatever every second counts especially for those who run Sloops or Brigs. If there is already a fix for it can someone link or reply here? Because honestly its annoying. It happens almost every time im in a barrel or inventory screen.
Also i chose performance issue because wasn't sure how to describe this problem
A traditional window popping up while looking in barrels or inventory when moving the mouse up
@thaundeadone Yeah, I also encounter this. It seems like it is a bug that only happens in barrels and if you move your mouse cursor up to the top of the screen (to roughly where you would expect a title bar of a window to be) it brings up a white bar like a window title. I have never had it crash my game though, and when I hit escape and click my mouse SOT returns to normal. I think for some reason the game/Windows thinks you have changed the active window, which is why hitting escape closes the "new" window and clicking your mouse brings SOT back to being the active window.
It is mostly a pain if you are racing to get stuff out of a barrel, like bananas in a fight, and you lose a second or two. I have just trained myself to never move my mouse cursor up that high when in barrels, and it is easy enough to avoid most of the time. In fights though you can be in a rush so sometimes I forget and lose a second or two.
If it is crashing your game, one thing to check (apologies if you have tried this already): do you also crash when you alt-tab, as this could mean that your configuration isn't right. One thing that you might be able to change (can't remember whether it is possible in SOT, but I have used this change many times as it fixes issues in Windows with using dual monitors) but I know it has fixed similar problems with other games, is to change from fullscreen to windowed mode (or vice versa, just swap it from what it is currently set to). It doesn't eliminate the issue but can fix games from crashing when they stop being the active window.
Another solution, though not necessary ideal, is to use an SSD for SOT. This speeds up a lot of problems between switching windows, particularly if you do not have a lot of memory as Windows 10 makes RAM available by storing the data on your hard drive and so slows down dramatically if it has to pull the data back off it because you have changed the active window. Having more RAM can also help here, as well as closing unnecessary windows so that you can't accidentally click into them forcing Windows to pull the data back into RAM.
Hope that any of this helps.
@salvasian-au I should rephrase, it's not constantly crashing my game, its just in this instance i accidentally hit the red X in the corner without even thinking. I know its my fault for doing hitting that button, but for any other game, that includes my other Microsoft games it does not do it. I can deal with it, i just was not sure if it was happening to other PC players or not. I have been playing with my brother and his friend, both PC players as well, and they do not have this problem. Which is why i posting asking about it.
Thank you though for replying and answering my question, Good luck on the high seas!
Its because the game is a UWP full screen app - the application bar hides itself like the windows start menu autohide function and will appear if your mouse goes near the top of the screen. Since the game "hides" your mouse most of the time its not a problem, but when you access the barrels, go into inventory or any other screen in which the cursor movement is used to select something this can happen if you move the mouse up too far.
