All I'm gonna to say it that it's kind of garbage that there's no way of knowing where the Captain Loot drops if you happen to destroy the other ship last. My friend and I won a battle single handedly on a sloop, and we didn't get any treasure because for some reason there's no indication of where the treasure actually is. Probably the most disappointing experience in any game I've played.
Skeleton Crew Loot
@iscuzzywuzzy yep happened to our alliance the other day. fortunately a skull fort popped up close to us so we all went and destroyed it to compensate for the captain ship loot loss
@iscuzzywuzzy Be sure to keep your eye on the ship with the orange name above the skeleton at the helm. That is your official captain ship that will have the loot.
The captains ship has noticeably different sails from the rest of the ships. When that particular ship sinks, that's where the loot will spawn, even if it's not the last ship to sink. Pull up on the captains wreck and load the loot up while the battle is going, on or else it could sink or be snatched up by another crew if you aren't paying attention.
You don’t have to kill all the ships to get the captains loot. Just pay attention to where the captains boat goes down.

The captain's ship should be visibly different though other than the captain's name being orange. Maybe a big flag on the mast or fancier sails. There should be an easy way to focus fire on a target so that the captain's ship goes down last, or first if the event is close to ending and despawning is imminent.
