It s hard to play 2 hours or more without interruptions. Please find another way to Make the Athena’s fortune. The endgame could be better
Athena’s quests are too large
Honestly, why can each turn-in not earn you Athena's reputation once all of your reputation levels are at 50. That way everything you turn-in at 50 goes towards a tiny amount of Athena's...it would really have to be a SMALL amount though. I am already done with Athena's...and I will be honest with you, if in the number of hours in a week you cannot find the time to do an Athena's quest once a week, then maybe gaming isn't right for you. Divide your time better.

Maybe a small athena quest with little progression earned in athena...?!
I wouldn't mind seeing a half-Athena's quest, with half the quests (one riddle, one island, one OoS, one merchant) - but the chest at the end would also have to be halved (or worse) in terms of payout and rep. I would say maybe 33% of the normal Athena's payout and rep - to encourage folks to do full-blown Athena's if they have the time, but to give others an option in case they don't.

@kyros-in-exile just make it so you can log off and continue quests later. Owner of the quest only.
While that makes sense, I think it could be abused. Imagine if a legend joined a random crew to help him grind out an Athena's quest. All three sailors on his crew spend 2+ hours to finally get to the Chest of Legends. PL leaves, starts a galleon with 3 of his buddies and they all cash in for the Athena's rep. May not happen very often but I could definitely see it abused for boosting friends.

Yeah...um, no. "Save games" in an online multiplayer game...just no. So many better ways to make this work. Way too much potential for abusing this.
Honestly, I would like to argue that they are great....sure I also think a mixture of all three voyage types is a tad lazy. However they are my favorite thing to do as I usually play for around 2-4 hours and they are fun to strategically plan out efficiencies with balancing sail times vs islands with correct animal orders. I digress, if you think they are too long try and find those efficiencies and you will be able to turn these daunting voyages into a 90 minute outing (without speed running).
I have found that Athena's quests are way easier on a sloop, less skeletons. I did one solo a few nights ago. I had a little help along the way from 2 different randoms, but in the end I turned in the Chest of Legends all by myself. I have to be honest, it was a little nerve-racking having it on board sailing into post all alone on my sloop, but it was rewarding in the end.

I agree with you
I think the quests are fine the way they are, but I do agree it could be a bit much for one sitting. What we need is a way to leave the game and continue the mission when you return. Perhaps this will happen when they add the captaincy mechanics. This really would have helped me out the other day when the servers were shutting down where I had 5 minutes to get the Athena's chest, doh!
@admiral-greyjoy I knew it was going to be a close call 2 hours before the servers closed, so I knew not getting the chest could happen.
Why not just hire some other crews to help? Drop one person off with a sloop crew and have them show the other crew a treasure map or skull bounty. They go out and do some of the work with your crew member while you knock out the rest. In the end, you have done the quest in about half the time and the other crew gets to keep all the loot they snagged in the effort, win-win.
What’s the thing of rushing the game? And make a lot of money if everyone know that lack of content, who many clothes are you going to buy even you can’t see your own pirate 90% of the time, how many guns and accessories do you need if every item do the job? How many skins ships do you need if the skins can be sheared. If there is not a progression , why force a imaginary progression?
The game is for enjoy the trip no the destination.
Rushing pirate legend is the worst thing you can do.
If your are short on time, only do the voyages on the Athena’s quest you are interested, what’s the matter to leave the voyage incomplete? Who cares.? Sorry guys but this is only OCD that can’t let you enjoy the game....@bella-persona chest of legend is only money and level up to 10 .... so again what’s the thing to rush and be a pirate legend....(read again the loop upside) until make it clear.
@bella-persona its important to remember one thing when doing athenas quest. You are a Legend so if you think off what a legend means what comes to mind,
@bella-persona For a start they could introduce a "small" voyage. Only 1 map of each type + a final chapter with a Lesser Chest of Legends (e.g. worth 45% of the rep of the normal one). Roughly halves the time necessary, which would make it more viable for shorter sessions, but the reputation gained from 2 voyages is slightly less than 1 regular Chest of Legends, so there is still some incentive to do the long one if feasible.
Or even go down to 2 maps at random (but always 2 different types) + final chapter and adjust the reputation gained accordingly.
Edit: basically what @Kyros-in-Exile said ... sorry overlooked your comment
Personally it sucks cause it's just more grinding at a harder level. You can speed run it leave all the chests and skulls skip the animals still get the final map and turn in the athena chest to get the rep. But you left behind all that money which basically at the inflated PL prices you need it! The amount time it takes you to speed run it with a competent crew you can get it done in the same amount of time and still get the athena chest and loot to boot!
@racmop Thing is I don’t think Rare can go around calling their players entitled unless they want to get a gut punch to their profits :/
P.S. but frankly it’s true
@sytoki ha detto in Athena’s quests are too large:
If you’re doing the Athena’s purely for your Athena’s to go up then you should not take longer than 40 minutes to complete it, 1 hour max if you’re having issues with other ships.
Sorry but purely for Athena’s, skipping everything is no more Sea of Thieves!@bella-persona ok so skipping everything(no pvp, no skull fort, no weekly events, no distraction...) 40 minutes or 1 hour...but is no more Sea of Thieves. Where is the freedom?Where is the fun? It s just a run, like a job where your target is the legendary chest
@bella-persona
Personally I agree with Legendary voyages being too much of a time investment. Sure you could maybe complete it in about 45 minutes by not taking any of the loot and rushing through everything, however that's just another form of cheesing which I really dislike. When you do the voyages in the way they're meant, it'll take you more than an hour and that's quite a commitment when you have very little time.I completely understand that this is a personal problem, however in a game that can be played completely casual at your own pace it's weird that there's suddenly a barrier that requires you to invest a lot more time at once. When I start something I want to be able to commit to it and finish it, especially when I'm helping others.
What I would like to see is a minor change that would offer you more choice depending on the amount of time you want to invest into something. My suggestion is to add additional voyages (legendary and normal ones) that cost less than the normal price, which will reward less but will also offer less maps. That way you would actually have more chance of completing the voyage you paid for.
