In a round table Q&A video posted today, Joe Neate not-so-subtly hinted that they are trying to bring fishing in to the Forsaken shores. He did say that it's sort of, "priority 2" for the Forsaken Shores team, but now we know for sure they are trying to bring it in by September.
Is everyone else as excited for fishing as I am?
@rockinpodunk I would be so happy! Fishing in any game is so fun to me for some reason, so SoT would be no exception.

i would guess that ultimately varieties of fish will be collected to satisfy different merchant quests.
He just said they are "trying" to get it in for Forsaken Shores, which is still 3 months out, and I won't be too disappointed if it gets delayed longer to get it right, I'm just happy to hear they are actively trying to bring it to us.
Honestly I would be fine if it was just something to pass the time on those long voyages, or when you only have half hour or an hour to play, where some games you can just play for a bit and put it down, this game isn't worth jumping in if you only have a half hour.
If you could just jump in and cast a line for a bit, maybe sell some fish to the MA, it would be great.

Sound reasoning squally, I would agree, I would love if they had it so that you could fish with poles, nets, harpoons, and a session based ship upgrade that adds trawling nets that can be lost when sunk, but makes fishing more efficient, and a side activity instead of being so focus dependent like pole fishing should be

Yeah, hopefully, there is a rep faction to it, have your crew fish from one place to another between islands.
I really hope they add whaling too, Using rowboats and spear to throw at it. Sort of a mini-game to capture it. Have many crews trying to compete but either getting it first and killing each other after it has been caught.

He was definitely hinting at fishing. When he said it, he said he wouldn't say exactly what it was, but it was something to do to pass the time while at sea, and something many people have been asking for, (it has been a running joke in many interviews that people won't leave joe alone about fishing)
Then later when another person asked about fishing specifically, he said "that sounds a lot like something you'd do to pass the time while out at sea" (or something along those lines) while laughing, and it was obvious he was referring to his remarks from earlier.
It has also been a running joke that Joe tends to accidentally leak information, much to the dismay of the studio head, and several jokes were made about in the round table in reference to his fishing hints.
Tl;dr it's definitely fishing.

Hmm, I'll watch it again. I'm pretty sure he said forsaken Shores, but if he said Cursed Sails, even better
