[Mega Thread] In Game Customisation - Part 5

  • alt text

From Release Notes - 1.1.0, we want you to fulfil your dreams of becoming a pirate percussionist with the new drum, use flags to signal your intent to attack or ally with other crews, and represent with scars, tattoos and a bunch of new cosmetics!

added in Release Notes - 1.1.0

    • Pirate Preview Camera - The daily dilemma for every pirate, what to wear?! Make that an informed decision with the new animations within the clothing and vanity chests. These new animations will bring focus to the area you are currently equipping. Imagine a pirate lifting their leg when equipping a peg leg... you get it!

    alt text

    • Ship's Flags - Want to sink and plunder, or seek allies to adventure with? Let your intentions be known with new flags which can be raised high above your ship! Climb up to the crow's nest and decide which to raise.
    • Pirate Legend Flag - Are you even a legend if you don't have a flag to say so? Some say not. Rush to the Shipwright in the Pirate Legends Hideout to get yours!

    alt text

    • Drum - BOOM! Pirate percussionists (inspired by Merrick himself) can now be heard all across the seas. The first drum is obtainable through The Hungering Deep campaign, but purchasable variants will be arriving in the shops in the near future.

    alt text

    • Tattoos - Many pirates wanted them and now they are here! Check out the vanity chest for 16 sailor tattoo sets and visit the clothing shop on outposts for stocks of four purchasable tattoo sets.
    • Scars - What enemies have fallen to your pirate might? Scars earned through campaigns and events such as The Hungering Deep will allow you to tell a story of your pirate's history and adventures. These are not purchasable, they must be earned.
    • Sailor Sail Tints - Want a splash of colour on your ship but don't have the coin? Those Shipwrights are impossible to bargain with. Sailor colour variants for you more cost-conscious pirates are now being stocked. These include Black, Grass Green, Royal Blue, Red and Yellow.
    • Item Colour Variants - Purchased the Grand Admiral, Castaway Bilge Rat, Ruffian Sea Dog or Imperial Sovereign clothing sets but want matching items? Now they are here! Shipments have arrived at the equipment shops on outposts.
    • Majestic Sovereign Clothing - If it's time to freshen up your look, check out the new Majestic Sovereign set in the clothing shop, it may tickle your fancy! Remember stock is different from outpost to outpost, so you may want to check the Ancient Isles.
    • Pirate Legend Dress - We heard feedback from our Pirate Legends that in the approach to summer, a breezy alternative to the existing Legendary attire would be appreciated. Future Pirate Legends will automatically be awarded this dress, and existing Pirate Legends can grab it in the Hideout for free.
    • Ghost Dress - Arriving in the same shipment as the Pirate Legend Dress, pirates can now complete the Ghost set with the dress, stocked in the Pirate Legends Hideout clothing shop.

We know many of you were requesting the new options outlined above and we'd love your feedback on them!

  • @khaleesibot god I cant wait to get home

  • @khaleesibot

WOOHOO!!!! One step closer to full customization!!!

Now that we have tattoos and scars in the mix - just a few more things left on the wishlist!

    • Barber / Hair Color Changes
    • Dyes for Clothing / Armor
    • Baldrics!
    • Body Aesthetician / Full Body Changes

    One can dream! :D

    ~ Captain Jay
    The Crow's Nest

  • @armament-jay Did someone say Baldric? XD

    http://blackadderquotes.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/baldrick-incarnate.jpg

  • @khaleesibot WOOOO BIG DADDY RARE HAVE GIVEN US DYES/SHADERS!!!!

Honestly though great additions this patch! Flags are a great little thing to add, definitely needed! Glad the pirate legends are getting more stuff as well!

All in all, great patch! Paves the way for potential things to come!!

  • I wish they would get an actual barber and tatoist in the game for that total imersion! :P

    Great new customizations though!
Needed that little boost of motivation and inspiration to grind out these last few levels of gold horders.

  • Waiting for the thing to Upload.

One thing I have suggested is adding variants of the hull and sail shapes. For example, the admiral will have a flatter look than the sovereign, which would be something like HMS Sovereign of the seas. Kinda like a body kit for a car. Two cars of the same type, let's say a Mazda rx7, but one is stock while the other's bumpers, hood, skirts, and roof was all changed, but the performance and stats remain the same.

    basically like this. https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/60343/how-to-add-more-ship-types-without-changing-much-of-the-game

  • Customization's are cool but come on guys shark boat cosmetics were in the alpha and should have been available day one! I like the drum and can appreciate the tats, clothing, skins, but how about some stuff made out of shark skin! Or how about a sword with a sharktooth hilt or jagged blade! or a pistol with the megladon on it! The new sails are cool but the shark boat skins would have been a great reward for defeating the "hungering one" besides the figure head.

Just my feelings on the dlc!

  • Can there be some underwear added to the game? All these sick tats and my she pirate is stuck wearing super boring bandages. I never see any of the tattoos as I'm a stickler, her clothes have to match.

  • When will we get a new pirate creation tool without loosing your current progression and items?

  • I do hope that dyes are added in at some point, then i could change the color of my Sea Dog Jacket so it matches more with my Admiral shirt.

  • Hi Team,

Please consider bringing back removed outfits and items (figureheads and cutglasses) that were meant to stay.

I have talked with many friends that were half the way to get the outfits that they wanted, or just managed to get half of the full set before it was removed.

Not to mention that the shipmnent for the Grand Admiral, Castaway Bilge Rat, Ruffian Sea Dog or Imperial Sovereign have come with last patch deployed.

Work trips, personal matters, etc. are some of the reasons that limit the amount of time that players can invest into this game, and, as the community well knows, SoT requires quiet an investment in hours in ARRRder to become a Legend.

As SoT grows, community will share feedback and some content should be improved (like new outfits designs, etc.) but if some recolored outfits were already out there, they should have been kept only for those that are investing hours (and hours) in order to save enough money to buy them.

Maybe timed weekly events (that have now started with The Hungering Deep one) is a good excuse to bring them back, as players would have a second chance to own them.

Hope to hear back from the team!

  • Hello team I am an xbox player and I did not know where to post this but me and a friend where on a sloop attacking a stronghold and we did so up to the captain, where I suicided into him with a gun powder barrel which killed both me and the captain, then when I spawned back there was no key or sign of the captain or any skeleton's despite the music still playing, so me and my friend tried gunpowdering where we thought we heard foot steps and nothing happened then I died to respawn again as did my friend but my friend instead glitched through a wall and then teleported back to the ship at the same time I spawned back, we then circled the island and what do you know there are skeleton's manning the cannons that wherent their prior, so then we took them out and made our way to the island where everything had respawned, luckily still on the captain. Me and my friend did manage to in the end get the key after a few hours of trying to fix it (despite being programmers) we had no clue at what happened, my friend thinks that I somehow glitched the skeleton's under the map where we heard foot steps and when he glitched he refreshed their spawn, please tell me how this could have happened and please try to fix it as we spent ages trying to fix it and I worry for other players, kind regards nthxnd and firestorm (both from xbox)

  • Love the game! Thank you Rare! Couple things Id like to see in game

Neutral Area/Outpost/Pubs: I would love to see the Pubs/bars full of players, sharing stories, playing mini games and forming crews. These areas could be neutral zones that do not allow PvP. Allowing players to mingle in safety before heading back out to sea to be pirates once more.

Mini Game/Poker: At the pub, there could be several tables where players can wager against other players or NPCs to win gold, trinkets, parts for new guns/equipment, maps, maybe someone bets their whole ship!?

Parts: Id love to see random drops from killing skeletons and sharks. These random drops could be parts for a new gun, shovel, or an outfit.

Trinkets/Collectibles/Trophy Case: Along with random drops of useful items, random trinkets that hold no real value other than for lore. They could include funny descriptions and can be kept as part of a collection, maybe in a trophy case, or sold for gold. Ex: "Black Beard's beard comb" "Megalodon toothpick"(Skeleton's arm) "Kraken suction cup" "Skeleton skull mug"(for grog) - Get crazy with it!

Barber/mods: Would love to see a barber's chair that offers limited customization of hair ( Color, facial etc). But also things like piercings or facial scars.

Help Wanted: At the pub, there could be a help wanted board where crews looking for an extra pirate list their boat or a pirate can list themselves as available. When a boat is ready to sail, they could get a message and meet up at the pub.

Loving Sea of Thieves! I want to play in this world more and more, but need more things to do. Cheers!

  • Anyone tell me where these matching colour sets are, i would like to get a darker version of my coat but can't find one.
Also, is this dyes or just the usual reskins that I'd need to purchase again. Kind of feel that if you've bought an item you should have access to recolour it rather than buy it again at full price just because now it's in green and red instead of green and blue.

  • @laughsmaniacaly and also considering that some outfits were half removed and only few pieces can be obtained now.

You can travel from outpost from outpost and never find the cutlass or figurehead that would match the outfit colors you like as they were removed.

  • @khaleesibot I was talking with friends playing SOT and I got some new ideas.
I have a hard time staying hooked on the game since I do not feel that I'm progressing ... even after completing the last update, which we thought was very simple, I have not replayed since ...
I think adding a form of skill progression could attract people to continued playing.
The levels already set up are good but we do not benefit!
For example, why not, after a certain level, be able to open the trunk ourselves without having to go to an outpost?
There could also be a way to develop skills by building objects using materials. Even some object needs to be done with other hackers.
I believe that exploiting a system of skills could revive the game.

Also, give character to areas of the map, like Fortnite did with their map.

You have an incredible base, full of potential, please exploit it completely!

    Dom

  • @kxtremeqc I meant Pirates : I'm french and i used translate!! haha SRRY

  • @kxtremeqc
    Quick question.

These skills you speak of. Could you see them adding a benifit to a higher level player over someone of a lower level.

To use your idea of opening a chest instead of turning it in. Do you see how this would change the game dynamics. Higher level players would no longer risk losing chests from their own voyages. They're free to find, bank and then go straight into combat, no risk involved.

Hands down, bet it would lead to a more aggressive playerbase.

As for regional clothing schemes, I'm all for it. Give me that cursed witch doctor look from the wilds.

  • All the new items and cosmetics are awesome, had a blast with the hungering deep!

The only problem is all the time limited items!

What if I want to delete my Pirate and start over! I will lose ALL the hungering deep items aswell as the Launch Crew EoR and day one patch!

Any chance these items can stick to your account instead of singular Pirate?

  • @theyetizz this also include deleted items. Every day I play with some mates and make gold, we love going to Outpost and spending a little bit on outfits, weapons or figureheads. And every time we go since outfits were deleted, at least one is completing one outfit that now is not complete in-game.

I would really appreciate a word from the dev team, as would be awesome to confirm that they will make an appearance again.

'Shark Hunter Set' lasting even after the Hungering Deep finishes was properly announced from Social Networks, but with deleted outfits it didn't work that way (was only published here and I know mates that also read the forum and didn't even notice it).

Happy weekend and hope we get great news regarding this by tomorrow due to the E3 conference or by next Monday.

  • Not sure if this falls under "customisation" but I think we should get a few more emotes/actions for those moments that really need them.

How about at least adding a Sad Action (for when someone sinks your ship/steals your loot) and an Angry Action (for when someone sinks your ship/steals your loot)?

And maybe one that's a real true, pirate-ty, landlubbing Y'ARRGH arm throw (for when you sinks someone else's ship/steal their loot)?

    #JustThinking

  • Can we get a variety of colors to choose from for the simple cosmetics items like the bandannas? It was implemented for the sails and would be an easy addition of variety to the clothing choices.

  • Hi,

I am a long time supporter of Sea of Thieves and was excited when it first was announced.

As a completionist in games where i strive to unlock everything possible i feel that it's too hard to keep up with all the limited things.

For example i bought the day 1 eye patch out of pure luck visiting the store.

Sadly i missed the limited eye of reach skin even tho i played during this time because there is nothing giving me the intuition to go to the merchants.

Would it not be better to give these limited items to players who played during the time they were available instead of selling them for 1 gold?

Or give some hint in-game to buy it, i like to come home from work and start playing and cannot always keep up with the different social media announcements even tho i strive to check frequently.

There are already to many skins based on buying cookies or being on E3 etc that it feels bad missing out on the few that are actually available in game because i am out adventuring and not browsing the stores all the time.

Because right now most of the skin releases is obtained out of the game, buying something or social media like the flint lock pistol.

    Best regards,

  • I love the new items. But i woud wish for i can dye my hair. Ore chans ethe canons. The ferry of the dam have diferemt canons so why dont gibe this to the player to? Mean we dont need it but it woud be nice :)

  • Let us please switch the eye-patch to the other side..not every pirate is blind only on the left eye...😉

  • @khaleesibot

The changes are much appreciated. It's great to see all the new additions to SoT.

Would it be possible to add a user controllable zoom/rotate when applying customizations to our pirates? Many of the game I've played allow you to preview what an article of clothing or a body change will look like from difference angles and zoom levels.

  • Ok few ideas?

Can we have fire works? To summon rare, bosses? Fight for loot for weekly event? We need (pieret techics)No offences its getting boring...

    Pets? That find supplys

    Friendly piret duels? Borederlands style

    Equipment thats harder to obtain?

    New chests...

Xp needs a boost all that and the xp system is slow

an island where we can socialise with other players to do quests?

  • Hello,

I like, as a pirate, to be bling bling !
I would love to have rings and necklaces, golden teeth and earings.
I have been wearing glasses since i was 4yo. Having glasses and/or shades in game would be cool too.

  • The bone decorations on the Bilge Rats rewards clothes are a bit weird.
Yes, they look good when you don't move, but as soon as your arm moves, the bones bend and stretch with your shoulder. This looks a bit strange.

Also i still have one customisation item on my wishlist, hoping it will find its way into the game one day:
A drinking horn as an alternative for the tankard.

  • What If you added a music box to the boat it would be great to have some music when we are in battle or just sailing so we can maintain the boat but enjoy a good tune to make the adventure more fun !

  • finished the solo thrones but IMPOSSIBLE TO GET OTHER PLAYERS for the duo thrones! I lost a lot of hours without finding anybody to join for the quest. nobody or hostile only.
PLEASE RARE ALLOW TO DO ALL THE QUEST IN SOLO PLEASE. Really depressing not to be allowed to to do them.
a lot lot lot of players have the same problem
stop to make the need of other people to complete the quest. it's annoying, frustrating.

allow the thrones for all the players even alone. no need other crew it's killing the game. hope you listen to me guys.

  • Not impossible at all. I know several people, myself included, that has gotten all of them. Yes there are a lot of people out there that only have an interest in sinking others, but you do come across friendly crews every now and again. I was with one such crew yesterday. (Albeit after they blew my ship to Davy Jones because they didn't hear my call out, but still.) It's entirely possible. You just have to keep at it. And (obviously) it's best if you don't keep any loot on your ship while you're trying to find a friendly crew. =)

As to customizations I would like to see, I would love to see an actual Shark Hunter set made for clothing and weapons to go along with my ship stuff. That's my biggest want at the moment.

  • Just wanna say I'm thoroughly enjoying the event guys, my usual crew found a friendly sloop and we finished the event in practically one night. Had a lot of fun in the process, although Marauders Arch was a total pain.
As for customization feedback; add the cheap solid color option to the livery, I'll buy them the moment I log on.

Also I had an idea to make merchant voyages more interesting; add the luxury crates to the Request voyages and to ensure people find them more often, include them in the floating barrel clusters.
Really I just want Merchant voyages that feel like the Cross Country trucking sims, leave from an outpost with an Order to pick up a shipment of Sugar and Spices from another outpost in a different region, then you deliver them to yet another outpost in a third region all within a timeframe
