PC games with similar gunplay to SoT?

  • Are there current games with similar gunplay to SoT? So fast paced, arcadey shooters with relatively quick movement?

Lately, my aim has been pretty bad, and since CQB in SoT is pretty infrequent, especially as a helmsman, I'm looking for another game to improve my shooting skills. :)

  • The blunderbuss reminds me of halo 3 shotgun a little bit, and the general fact that you always have a visual cue and know that their blunderbuss/whatever weapon does the same thing as yours also reminds me of halo. Halo 3 though not the newer halos that didn’t stay with this level playing field approach to gunplay. The newer ones have multiple versions of each weapon, and personally I prefer the complexity of tactics that comes with a more balanced weapon set.

Dang, I forgot to mention that I'm looking for PC games. Sorry about that. Edited it into the title now :D

Personally never got into Halo. Too sci-fi and clean for me. :)

  • @nebenkuh Just thinking about it, I wonder if some of the low tier guns in Rust might be similar.

  • @nebenkuh ahh can’t help you there, I imagine there has to be something though, I think there is a pc halo 1 and 2, though thinking about it further those games not having ADS makes them really more similar in spirit than in practice, but the blunderbuss and shotguns do have similar ranges and drop offs imo.

I think it's not so much about the weapons but the aiming itself, and the movement being similar. :)

  • @nebenkuh you could always try battlefield hardline, that’s the bunny hoppiest battlefield imo lol and if you get good at the gunplay in that game or BF3 or 4 I’m sure SoT gunplay will come much easier. It’s a lot more constant and faster paced combat, Not as similar as halo to SoT even with the ADS though especially movement wise. there aren’t headshots in SoT so it’s hard to think of a game like that haha

  • @a-cranky-eskimo
Right now I'm downloading Unreal Tournament.
Battlefield is too slow paced, you can't shoot while jumping or sprinting.

  • @nebenkuh yeah movement wise totally, the ballistics are much faster though, which adds to the feeling of a lack of freedom of movement which SoT definetly has that freedom of movement, If I remember UNreal tournament correctly that’s probably a good bet.

  • @a-cranky-eskimo
I played the first UT way back in the day. If the current one is anything like that, it should be a good game to train shooting. :)

  • @nebenkuh
There are no other games with shooting physics like SOT.
Just up your dpi & use macros, you'll be able to compete with the rest of the pc players then ;)
Don't worry too much, you'll still have the xbox population to use as easy targets anyway!
Also, as this isn't a competitive twitch shooter, does it really matter :D

  • @logansdadtoo
Too much salt isn't good for you :)

  • @nebenkuh
No salt m8, just giving really helpful, useful, informative advice to a pc player, just like you do to xbox players ;)

  • @logansdadtoo
None of that was helpful tho. :)
Are you really still mad about some threads weeks ago?

  • @nebenkuh
Nearly every crossplay thread m8, not weeks ago.

On one hand you say this isn't a competitive twitch shooter & losing doesn't matter, now you want to play a game with similar gunplay to help improve you (very rare!) CQC in SOT?
Seems a bit of a contradiction if you ask me!

  • @logansdadtoo
So? I still believe I was making fair points. It was you who cried about it, and now, weeks later, you're still salty enough to derail my thread. Just let it go buddy, it's okay!

It's not contradictory in the slightest either. The game is not a competitive twitch shooter. Shooting people is like 1% of playtime.
Doesn't mean I can't try to improve when I've noticed by aim being off recently. :)

  • @nebenkuh
    I don't believe i shed a tear m8, don't flatter yourself.
Your 'fair points' were the generic responses from pc players that have been regurgitated numerous times.
Basically clutching at straws to try & keep your advantage!

So by your own admission, you are requiring help with your CQC so are not an experienced / competent PVPer, but you still think that you are skilled enough to be able to debunk all xbox players concerns about CQC & offer meaningful advice??

  • @logansdadtoo
Keep going, if that strawman gets any bigger you might get an award! :)

  • @nebenkuh
Already have my award m8, thanks anyway :p

  • quake live, Strafe, Unreal tournament, Battalion 1944, any cod that supports pro mod. OSU, Devil daggers, Warsow

  • Halo CE (portable 1.0.10 with HAC 2) on PC is actually pretty similar to Sea of Thieves from a gun play perspective.

First, the most powerful weapon that everybody uses is the pistol, that kills with 3 shots, and you spawn with it.
Second the movement is heavily focused on strafing left/right to evade enemy shots.
Third the shotgun behaves similar to the blunderbuss.
And forth it has a powerful melee that you gonna use a lot in close combat.
    And finally it's just a 100MB download.

  • @nebenkuh said in PC games with similar gunplay to SoT?:

    @a-cranky-eskimo
Battlefield is too slow paced, you can't shoot while jumping or sprinting.

Well, you can, you just won't hit anything.

Unreal Tournament (the original) would be my best suggestion. My old man's in his mid 50s, and has been playing classic UT since launch day, and he could probably headshot most SoT players with one hand tied behind his back.

UT doesn't have the ballistic gunplay, and focuses a lot more on movement, so not sure how well it'll translate into SoT performance, but it'll certainly give your reflexes and gunplay a thorough workout.

  • @nebenkuh @LogansDadToo

We can all agree to disagree on crossplay, though it is a little ironic that you would post this and contend to know that crossplay is fine how it is. I think logansdad just couldn’t help themselves haha.

Though that is a discussion we have all had at length, let’s get some more ideas for similar games going on this thread instead, we are all just pirates after all, we don’t have to agree, but we live by the code. Which is more like guidelines really,
