Being chased? Turn around and fight.

In the last two weeks of playing I've only encountered maybe two ships that didn't just run away. Most just snipe like this guy or jump overboard and try to board. Pretty dumb mechanics for a pirate game but whatever. Even encountered a pirate legend last night that turned tail and died.

Pirate Legend doesn't mean you're good; Pirate Legend means you have more free time than most.

Well I'll take your patronizing tone and raise you. There was 2.

1. I had hit them but my goal was to keep them occupied with looking at me shooting at them so that I could formulate a plan.

2. I don't know if they were n00bs or not. But they sure as hell didn't know how to sail.

Because I have a brain. 2 v 1 odds when I have loot on board and they don't and were obviously perusing for someone to rob. And in the end, I sold my loot and they had to sail away with sand in their kraken.

I did fight. I was shooting at them the whole time to keep them from being able to maneuver and I won. Not my fault they couldn't keep up. And while you are wasting your time trying to PvP everyone, we'll be over here making money and enjoying ourselves the way we want. Go cry somewhere else if you don't like the mechanics. Sorry sniping very rarely works against experienced pirates. As one who goes after every ship more so to sink it and show me and my crew are the better sailed. Half the time I could careless about your loot. But I will catch and sink you the only question is when i catch you not if.

@edemardil If someone is following me directly behind me (which is stupid btw) I either jump off with explosives and put it in the path of their boat. try not to blow myself up too. then board them and kill them while their repairing. If i dont have explosives I point the boat in a safe direction. jump off. board them. Drop their anchor and try to fight them

These guys were reported because they basically never touched their sails and kept up with me so I think something c****y was going on. I sent the clips to Rare.

But

I was alone and didn't want to risk my ship being alone with them because they were really weird. I had dropped two kegs off the end of the ship on different occasions but they didn't go off. (One hit the ship and one I didn't see).

I will tell you the same thing I tell everyone. You don't have to fight. There are other ways. I rarely fight in this game. If you can outsail and out smart people, you don't have to risk it. I didn't want to kill them, I wanted them to go away. And We all have that choice.

Don't sweat it man. I sink the runners too, it's just got to be really frustrating to snipe/miss, run, jump onto my ship and die and then still sink after 30 minutes. People should just learn to fight and take their chances rather than exhausting themselves and being torn down piece by piece. I imagine losing a fight after 30-40 minutes is more frustrating than one in 5.

But yeah, keep running and sniping. Everything has its place on the food chain.

@edemardil if that's the case there's an issue and rare and Microsoft need to address the rampant cheating from hacking that is coming into the game from the pc area. The other night we had 3 man get onto our galleon with out using the rope latter.

Yes of course. By saying "turned tail" you meant they honorably disengaged from the combat and tactically retreated. Gotcha. Is this the part where you insult everyone's intelligence by alluding to an alternate narrative where you were not trying to say people who run should turn and fight because it's cowardly to run?

Regarding the pirate legend fiasco.

Yes, they "turned tail." They thought they'd have fun shooting at a ship half their size and when they weren't landing hits but we were, they decided to run. When it didn't work because they sailed against the wind for too long, they lost their ship and the spoils on board. The act seemed a bit cowardly, especially given they've probably played the game a lot longer. I wasn't trying to derail your thread with my own personal encounters with people running away though.

Tactical retreat is one thing, especially to try and get to a position of advantage. However, to run away from every single fight, every single time. Meh. I'm not calling you a coward though: it's your choice to make. Running away just isn't always the solution in my opinion.

@maia oh yea bro it's how you avoid pvp which to most is a horrible mechanic in itself. I like that catching people is almost impossible if you know how to sail. It means they'll never get my loot. Then I can do drive by sales and server hop.

I wish more people would just play the game for what it is: an online game. So many people want to just PVE and pretend that social occurrences don't exist. Are there jerks out there who will call you names while they sink your ship and spawn camp you? Yeah, they suck. But server hopping to avoid any social interaction just doesn't seem like what the game is about. It's your call to make though lol

There is a few flaws to hopping overboard with cargo though. An experienced pirate will notice you and chase you to the island, killing you and taking your booty without so much as sinking your ship. Additionally, you can lose distance on turns (you have to eventually turn to the outpost; the map also has bounds). Nothing is perfect but you do you.
