So, to satisfy you, they have to come out and say something about crossplay instead of just modifying the game in patches?
Besides jumping in combat and voice comm differences(which can be addressed) what is the problem?
It isn't a competitive multiplayer game. Almost everytime I'm playing, at least half of my crew is Xbox, while I'm on PC.
The pros are so much greater than the cons.
As to when are they going to answer? There isn't a rush, it isn't a priority. I'm sure they'll bring it up in the podcast, but probably more in pointing out that bringing so many players together is an achievement more than worth it.
I haven't noticed any bunny hoping or the like, but those are things they can work on.
I imagine Rare (judging by their latest podcast - worth a watch here ) are looking at the underlying issues & reasons why people have a desire to revoke or opt out of crossplay.
Which is a good idea.. because people aren't actually against crossplay, are they? There are issues the complainants believe are negatively affecting them because they are sharing a game world between two different platforms.
Rare will have far greater data on this to make an objective assessment on the reported issues.
Given how noisy people are on the topic, I'm sure Rare are just gathering all the info to make a full and objective response and plan going forward.
@drewbob7 You and your friends can still play together... Optional crossplay means you can turn it OFF or ON.
Selfish part about saying that it's fine now cause you can play with your friends is not thinking about the people that don't have pc friends and want to play vs other xbox players on an equal playground.
Optional would be a compromise between the 2 systems, as it's still crossplay but people who don't want to play with their xbox crew vs pc crews can opt out of it, and pc versions won't need to be downgraded.
I'd be selfish if I'd say: I want crossplay to disappear completely because me and my friends don't want to play against pc players, while others maybe do want to play against pc players. (Then my opinion would ruin their opinion, in others words I wouldnt be considerate about other people their opinions)
@samurai-ikakuju a dit dans When will a Rare employee state their points of view on the crossplay matter? :
They day the make cross play optional is the day I quit the game.
Wow, is'nt it a bit excessive ? ^^
Xbox player here
Opening with that so you know not all console players want to make it optional.
Anyways... ever since I was little, I dreamed of a world where any gamer could play with each other. Where the game was what determined who was playing and not the platform. I look at this game and see in part the beggining of that dream. But if we push them to step back we lose the dream. If we regress to optional Crossplay instead of coming up with new and creative ways to face the challenge we have already lost.
Im not asking for heavy nerfs as no one wants to give up an advantage, but if they slowly adjusted gameplay or add specific mechanics that favor console players it would be far better than giving up on that dream.
All that aside, I have bot met a player where after fighting them I was like "oh that was a pc he had an unfair advantage", no I can't even tell. Sure there may be players who abuse the advantages they get but far more important to this game is having a good crew and being clever. :)
making crossplay even optionary, opens a whole another can of worms of posts full of complaining.
pc players will start demanding improvements in draw distance and other things
lfg on xbox (or xbox app) will be even a bigger s*itshow than it sometimes already is.
pc community will probably die of quicker than the one on xbox. (that's just an educated guess)
you'll get "i'm sure he was moving like a pc player, i checked xbox only, fix it!" posts all over.
you'll get people fighting over turning off "crossplay for the whole session" vs "crossplay for the crew only"
imagine a new player on xbox, he has bad luck and gets killed by a skilled pc player twice in his first session. He'll decide not to enable crossplay because he'll read some pc m*********e bulls*it post gloating about something.
Now is he right to do that, given the information he has? Yes. But he'll miss out on half of the amazing people this community has to offer (even tho, they mostly seem to hide pretty well on the forums :D ) and if he then spreads his views on other new players, it will cascade...
and in a year new players will be like "this used to have crossplay??? with PS4 or Switch??"
I know it's a bit too much, but hey, it got your attention and like someone wiser said, I too always expect the worst outcome, only to be pleasantly...... actualy, usualy i'm right....
@MindArchitect I like your complete disregard for my other point, that it would split up the playerbase. If someone have no PC friends how does crossplay involve them? It is an equal playing field, someone just invested their money in a PC, while some invested in an Xbox. The game is still fair, but the decisions you may or may not have made affects this. (I would like to note if Xbox players are made at all the PC "buffs" is just Rare trying to fix problems PC players are experiencing. If Xbox players had a bug only on Xbox, you would want that fixed, wouldn't you?)
@sweltering-nick Crossplay will still be in the game if optional though. And never have I ever read it was FORCED crossplay.
I applaud crossplay, just not when forced with obvious advantages to one system over the other.
@mindarchitect "And never have I ever read it was FORCED crossplay."
You read this game has crossplay and, i'm parahprasing: "you WILL be playing with players from both PC and Xbox"...
In no way was it suggested crossplay was optional...
@sweltering-nick True, they didn't suggest that, we all just expected it as it's common in the gaming world for it to be optional.
Money has been spend, the game is appreciated a lot, and even with crossplay being optional I'll still be there in crossplay servers with me first mate the pc user...
I do however agree that it is a step too far to force something as this upon the console players.
Wether it's true or just perception, the console players feel like they are at a disadvantage and for most people perception is reality.
Those people, wether wrong or not, will get fed up and start leaving the game, as so many pc players advise console players to do if they don't like it.
I wouldn't call that fair.
@mindarchitect said in When will a Rare employee state their points of view on the crossplay matter?:
It's to satisfy the community, which as you can see right now is falling apart.
Is it? Falling apart? Hyperbole.
People are seeing problems then leaping to crossplay as the cause and solution. I don't think Rare will give up on crossplay that easily. Especially as Sea of Thieves is the fastest selling Windows 10 marketplace game ever and breaking all sorts of records on xbox, as well as selling an awful lot of xbox subscriptions.
Crossplay has made this game a huge success.
The perceived issues are all about balance between platforms.

So it doesn't hurt when we get optional cross-play. Just as I thought.
@varples "Give up on crossplay"..? Again I'm here to say we aren't vouching for it to disappear completely...
At least I'm not...
And yes, the community between console and pc is slowly falling apart, have you looked at the forums at all?
Look at them being at eachothers throats about this subject, don't tell me we're not already split up.
And I will agree that crossplay can be a huge success, even with advantages from one system to another or vice versa, but so far it is not yet as there is too much friction and negativity around it.
And perhaps it is perception in a lot of cases, don't forget that perception for most people equals reality.
Just said that in my last post in this topic too...
@mindarchitect "True, they didn't suggest that, we all just expected it as it's common in the gaming world for it to be optional."
Could you make some example of games with optional crossplay?
"Wether it's true or just perception, the console players feel like they are at a disadvantage and for most people perception is reality."
Have i not already linked why it's just perception and self-defeating attitudes? ._.
Do i need to post that link again? About this disabled dude who plays games with only his mouth and still managed to win PUBG games by himself?
The dude who challenges ANYONE to come at him saying he can "beat you with his mouth" and isn't afraid of a challenge? :P
Here he is again! :D
"Those people, wether wrong or not, will get fed up and start leaving the game"
The first time i played TF2, i spent most of my time crying and whining about being dead most of the time...
I eventually became one of the best spies in the game, because even though PvP was frustrating, in the end, succeeding and getting good at the game felt good enough to make all the frustration and crying worth it.
I haven't played TF2 in a long time now though, i suck at it now... That was made obvious during one of the times i tested it out recently... My time on TF2 is over. xD
But anyway, people might say they're leaving, and whine nonstop, but, that's just attention-seeking behaviour... Trust me, they can't help themselves, they're still playing the game. :P
"as so many pc players advise console players to do if they don't like it."
If you don't like a core aspect of a game, you wouldn't have bought the game to begin with, we're just calling their bluff. :P
If you weren't aware of an aspect of the game that you really disliked, you buy it, play it, you don't cry about it, you ask for a refund, and move on.
"I wouldn't call that fair."
Yes it is, much more fair than you are aware of. x)
@mindarchitect I don't see people at each others throats. I see a few xbox players posting the same topic over and over again.
@varples sagte in When will a Rare employee state their points of view on the crossplay matter?:

Because Pc players have literally nothing to complain about when it comes to fighting xbox players.
@nic727 Omg stop crying about people that point out the obvious facts and problems about having forced cross-play.
Also going so low to call for censorship. That is truly pathetic.
Rare should either address those issues or create a megathread that is not getting closed when its convinient.

Which issues?
It has been explained several times. I'm sure you've seen all arguments about it but you can't see the problems because its outside of your perspective.
No problem with that but don't come here and call for censorship when people have valid concerns.
You don't care? Good, ignore this thread then.
Personally I want a response from Rare on this matter so that others and I know if its worth to continue the support for the game.

Their official stance is that crossplay is is here to stay. I’m flabbergasted that maniacs in this forum think that because they’ve created a topic that Rare will be forced to take their issue seriously. Crossplay isn’t going anywhere. Microsoft is moving toward PC/Xbox unification and that’s that.
as an xbox gamer i am fine with this, as long as they aggressively deal with the hacks that are out there for sale to any pc player who wants them. that is the best solution. short of that optional cross play is the only option.
They are not specially concerned about the noisy minority of one dozen and a half users that spam this forum to make some ruckus. Sorry.

@sir-lotus "splitting the community" is a moot argument when only 16 people can occupy a server
you don't want a community of sixteen players, believe me...or ask Bleszinski
I actually got into a slight debate with Teddy (PC lead) several months back. His major point was that SoT wasn't about the gunfights, it was about the adventure and that losing to PC players was only going to be a tiny shred of the game's experience. We countered that an entire 3+ hour session could potentially be ruined due to one lost battle due to an uneven playing field, but he seemed pretty set in the idea that this just isn't much of a PvP game.
He also made the point that it's not a twitch shooter so it doesn't matter. I feel like this is a highly flawed mindset because the mouse isn't just better for dragscoping quickly, it's also better for precision aiming. And that's extremely applicable to SoT since it's a game where reloads are so long.
I personally want more cross play games, not simply between Xbox and Microsoft, but also PlayStation. I'm sick of not being able to play some games me and my friends enjoy due to console or computer preference.
I feel like the only real issue of cross play would come in the form of hackers. In that case game companies need a good anti-cheat system. This whole crying over advantage/disadvantage is semantics. There are amazing players who use controllers and are better then you or I with a Mouse/keyboard. You thinking their "skill" comes from a better input device is laughable.
@sir-lotus
I really want to know where you lot keep getting all your information on the future from?
This is the 2nd post today where someone was trying to explain what will happen in the future.
They won't. The game was marketed as crossplay. Just because other games have it as optional, it doesn't mean this one has to. Crossplay is a new thing and there are no laws that say you have to have it as an option. I'm sure in the future consoles will just merge with PC and be fully kb/m compatible as standard. I'm pretty sure that's the direction MS wants to go anyway, and I welcome it.
Also I'm pretty sure it's down to MS, not Rare whether or not it gets removed, and so far I'm quite sure that MS will have seen a tidy profit come from this game compared to any other PC releases on the MS store. I would assume they will view this as crossplay being profitable and I highly doubt that MS is going to sacrifice a profitable business model for a few whiners on the game forums. You guys are kind of like the luddites of crossplay, I'm starting to find it amusing to be honest.

And he is right, the FPS part of the game is casual, ultra easy, brutally watered down to balance the minimal advantage of M/K vs controller: 5 bullets in guns, not 1S1K after the blunderbuss was (rightfully) nerfed, do we even have headshot crits?, the combat is more about good sailing, good tactics, good aiming with cannons, keg gunpowders, all that you can do it perfectly with a controller, the items wheel gives advantage to controller. No twitchy gameplay, no insane flickshots.
If you want a hardcore FPS this is not the place.

Either way, it isn't Rare's choice. Not much they can do about it besides try and make it slightly more balanced (mouse&keyboard for xbox for the hardcore console players, client-side hit detection, more weapon choices).
These guys keep saying "people will stop playing if Rare, and Rare wont make money" and don't realize; Microsoft is the publisher. If losing a couple hundred million to keep this game alive as an ad for Windows cross-platform, it fits well within the marketing budget.
