The toxic player base is going to kill this game

  • Agree 200% the toxicity and griefing this game has created with people outpost camping is why I'm completely for private lobbies. Some might say it'll kill the game but so will a crew of four staying at an outpost and waiting for someone to come to port. Three days in and im about to quit playing because the player base is beyond toxic

  • there is three types of people in this game, two complain wether about not wanting to do PVP, but some of them just dont wanna get outpost camped. OR the toxic players who are the campers and say "git guud scrublord insert racial slur" everytime you die, or some one posts something about not wanting to get camped. and the rare third type, the people who actually enjoy the game and are semi friendly towards people

  • @brandonblk I'm one of them lol, but I'm also selfish. I'd rather wait than give them the satisfaction lol. Or blast them, either or lol

  • @crunchyotaku83 just gonna drop a fast comment letting you know a sloop is in no way faster than a galleon, it has more manouverability but not speed.

  • @harmonic-evil oh c**p i thought i was outrunning one. Lol thx for correcting me.

  • A sloop can outrun a galleon but only if it is going AGAINST the wind

  • @harmonic-evil dijo en The toxic player base is going to kill this game:

    AGAINST the wind is faster.

  • I mean, to be fair LoL had a notoriously toxic community and they still exist.

But I both sadly and gladly agree. This game deserves better than those that defend broken game design choices and terrible spawn systems (with the intent on manipulating them).

  • I had about around the same problem I was playing with my three friends and two of them their game crashed while they were loading back into the game two randoms joined and they were throwing all of our Treasures overboard the hour that we spent collecting is gone because people want to be griefing highly irritated about it why do we have the have the party system open and have random people join our crew. It's highly annoying it should be invite only so this doesn't happen again.

  • @chaos-children2 an invite only sloop/galleon would be nice in that case, so you dont get rando's joining and just throwing your chests away

  • toxic comments bashing the game are going to kill this game.

  • I'm getting the sinking feeling the game will be practically barren in 2 months or under unless something changes. Camping of locations and spawns is common because it's predictable (at least its relatively quick to respawn I guess). New players bail faster than a sloop with 6 holes under the water line, generally lasting maybe an hour - possibly two of being unable to complete anything due to that and other issues (not getting any credit for actually completing them being a major problem).

The art style, sound production, physical design all good... the inherent game mechanics, quality of player base and content are pretty much abysmal. It's worth maybe... maybe $15.00 if you just want to fool around a bit with the sailing / possibly a bit more if you like running around destroying other players as a group and you have competent friends to play with.

Solo is not recommended at all under any circumstance unless you are a serious m*******t. Currently for the price it just seems a ridiculously poor value especially if you don't have others to dedicated to playing with you (and even then it's a bit of a stretch). It's more enjoyable with a group dedicated to playing and practically a 'must have' to really enjoy the game at all.

Random public groups are just a complete nightmare because the mechanics of the game allow so many ways to grief, ie. people will just sail off with the ship alone leaving everyone who was going for an objective stranded on the island with the chests, skulls, etc - or they'll constantly drop anchor or hop on the wheel at the earliest opportunity and ram the ship into land/rocks etc. The only counter being you'll have to vote-lock them in the brig if the other party members actually respond - but this is putting you at a severe disadvantage. Overall, my time in the game with dedicated players was enjoyable (but see it getting stale fairly quickly - again a month maybe two?) and public groups were anything but enjoyable.

I don't see it doing well long term, much to my dismay, as I had lofty hopes for it. Maybe something will change that, I don't know, just have to wait and see.

  • @brandonblk I don't even mind the PVP or even fighting you for my stuff but the fact that I couldn't do anything and it takes three people to put one person in the brig and both of them where together too so it was just a lose lose situation I hope they do something about it.

  • @chaos-children2 Yeah

Can't disagree more, some players are used to the challenge and the culture or merit and self-improvement.

Others simply complain in the forum of videogames.

  • @jinnaitag online games unfortunately attract these sort of players but there are a few decent pirates out their me and my was doing a skeleton fort when another gallion appeared we teamed up and split the booty between us then we ran into them being attacked by the kraken so we repaid the favour and helped them but you are always going to get people out to destroy everyone they meet

  • To all of you who don’t understand how to have fun let me break this down for u. This game is about choosing how u want to play. U can choose to not attack people and only do missions or forts, you can choose to kill everything that moves it doesn’t kill the game you just arnt getting the joy.

Let me break this down. I was on a galleon riding toward a skull fort with not one but 2 galleons at it. Behind us was another 2 galleons making the total 6 ships. We got sunk 2 times took our time and won the fort. One of the galleons saw us win and tried to chase us down. They chased us from the very south end of the map to the very north. Do you think we complained no, we had fun with it we laughed and shop ourselves at islands to get resources. It’s not about how much content there is it’s about how you use the content.

Just enjoy the people you are with and life will never be boring.

  • Not sure what you’re expecting from this game buddy, sounds more like you want Sims: It’s a Pirates Life

  • Don't be discouraged. Every interaction is different, and there are plenty of friendlies on the sea. Flash your lantern to show you wish to parlay. Some people will attack you, but other times you may find yourself sailing in a small fleet, with everyone working together.

In one play session, sailing a Galleon, my crew and I saw another galleon firing on a sloop. We rushed to the aid of the smaller ship, because we were feeling helpful on this particular voyage.

The sloop opened up on us as soon as we put ourselves between it and the galleon, and we find ourselves under attack on both sides. One bloke was launched of the ship, another killed outright. After a drawn out battle of we finally managed to sink the sloop and run off the galleon before limping back to port.

I don't hold a grudge against any pirate on either ship, on the contrary. To me it is all part of the game and just one of many amazing adventures I have had on the sea.

    Happy sailing

  • @jinnaitag You could always try and park on the other side of the island. As long as this is a pirate game, I'm going to act like one in the game aswell. Steal, murder, and skullforts, it's kinda all the game has to offer atm :)

  • @tamposla And yet they stressed they wanted a cooperative experience but what is emerging in a lot of cases is the opposite. I get PVP. I played hard core age of sail games where the losses mattered greatly. So you go and learn how to pick your fights. However this game has potential to be much more. A pve race for the loots style server is not a bad idea. Im sure they are going to introduce pve ships that we will have to track and hunt down etc. This is the first serving of the experience. At least that is my hope. They say they want to listen and evolve the game from suggestions and player feedback. TBD

  • It annoying when they just keep coming for you, but that's just part of the game. It would be no different if they just had NPCs attacking you.

  • Those interactions you describe OP are one of main attractions of the game for me( and i have been on both sides of it).

Just out game your oppenent. Or avaoid them.

  • @jinnaitag said in The toxic player base is going to kill this game:

Brand new player trying to just do my first quest. Capture and turn in 2 animals to a specific outpost. I move out, get the two animals, head towards the outpost I must turn these in at and see a galleon parked there. Having read these forums my heart immediately sinks. Yep. People going to try to steal my two chickens. They have no idea what I have, they just see a sloop coming in. I'm pretty good at driving so I manage to park right on the dock without taking damage. Close enough I can literally jump across without getting wet. The whole time I'm being bombarded by canon shot but I turn in both chickens without getting hit. Yay server bug I get no gold or reputation but it does say voyage complete at least. I walk off and the galleon KEEPS TRYING TO SHOOT ME. This is no longer trying to steal someone's treasure and is now just griefing. Hey it's a player that's not part of our crew! Let's kill them! I swim to their ship, kill two of them, and wound a third before the last two take me down.

The guide suggests players should HELP new players. But that's not what's happening at all. I have a group of 12 friends that wait to see what I think of a game before they purchase, because I tend to have a little more disposable income. If I have to get into a fight every time I encounter another player, and it's acceptable for ships to camp outposts, then this game is not going to live long. I'm definitely not recommending it to any of my friends. This is not a PUBG or Fortnite style game. The player base will quickly dwindle and soon just those campers and griefers will be left. With no prey they will grow bored and leave. The game will be dead in less than six months unless Rare addresses this.

Yes, I've seen many posts complaining of griefers and campers. Yes, I've seen the reviews for this game plummeting. Microsoft Store rating is hilarious. Yes, I knew I was getting into a PvP game and I'm all for PvP in the world fighting over the same resources. But when you're forced to turn in at a specific outpost, not that it matters because every outpost I visited had at least one galleon camping, people who bought this game thinking they were going to get a Pirate simulator are going to be disappointed. It's going to devolve to battles at outposts and no longer actually running missions or even raiding a fort. But hey, then Rare won't have to come up with new content.

Countdown to flood of "you shouldn'tve bought this game if you didn't want PvP" flood of replies.

    1. Do matchmaking. You will at least have allies on your side.

    2. I have had more positive experience with players than negative.

    3. Youre basing what you experience based on what you have read which is bad. #selffufillingprophecy. Disconnect from the forum, connect with players and have your own experience.

  • badminded people will disapear when they recognise there is no KD tracker or shipsink tracker for SOT. so its only a matter of time the game will recover from hypeplayers and trolls

  • The PvP is emergent. If you are alone on a sloop and can’t handle a galleon, join anlarger crew. If you want cooperation, you can get 3 other people to cooperate through matchmaking. If you don’t want that, avoid the galleon at the outpost. Come back.lure them away. You get a new ship so no biggie? You can’t avoid playing with other people and play solo and then complain that other crews aren’t being cooperative or that they want the PvP experience? Sailing alone is tough but I do it often and have mastered it. It’s a social experiment and you are experienc My society. I don’t understand this... it’s a PITATE game, not a merchant game. People do this because you never know what someone has. We PvP’d for fun tonight and took down a galleon and her crew and got 13k gold because of it from everything they had. They chased us and we just had 3 people jump off with 3 things and sell them then catch mermaid. Was an amazing experience. We fought that crew all night and they picked most of the fights. Even had a 4 way ship battle. We never sunk and got 6 more chests this way. Was a load of fun. Very rewarding. And we do it because we are PIRATES. Without that threat, the game is too safe and become bland and will turn players into zombies that complain about uninteresting gameplay. The emergent behavior and experiences are what this game is about. Enjoy it.

  • If I see a ship and I want to shoot at it I will shoot at it. I don't need a reason. Maybe I wanto see if they have something, maybe I just want to have some fun sinking ships and killing other players.

I have to agree with Outpost camping though, but most of the time it's just people passing the time taking supplies and trying new outfits. If I was there and saw a ship coming my way I would probably attack it too.

Day 1 of getting camped at an outpost. While floating on the ferry of the damned i turned to my cousin and said "were gonna have learn to fight".

  • it's looking like the warning about the sloop being high risk and for experienced players only needs to be written in much larger text.

  • If you don't like the aspect of the game then just delete it, its not considered toxic or griefing if you get killed by another crew, these comments came in already in beta way before. If you want to just pve then you have to find a different game, don't come here and post numerous threads on how the pvp is killing the game because then you just might kill the game for everyone else. go solo sloop or find a crew for galleon and learn to play.

  • @neptuncynic said in The toxic player base is going to kill this game:

Probably not a popular opinion but some player or crew trying to kill you just for the fun of it is not really griefing in m opinion.

Spawncamping or otherwise hunting you down repeatedly trying to ruin your fun is. But simpl attacking another plaEr? Come on, let’s not exaggerate. This is a PVP game after all and then you went in for kills anyway so wasn’t that fun?

I am genuinely afraid that this whole exaggeration and complaining ever time someone gets killed once somewhere will actually ruin this game.

Unfortunately spawn camping is part and parcel because of how the spawn system works.
If your ship is boarded and a crew is offloading your loot, the only solution to being counter attacked is to maintain the attack. ie 'spawncamp'

Respawning players need more spawn points, like being able to choose which deck they spawn on.
