xbox gamepass lies about SOT

  • you may want to approach microsoft and remind them you are a pvp game. they are blatantly lying about your game. unless something has changed about SOT that im unaware of? nowhere in the capabilities section describing the game do they have online pvp or just pvp listed. though in 2 tags the game is listed as online co-op. while the co-op is possible it doesnt change that it should have pvp tag. when i approached microsoft about it i got ignored. just a heads up that they are lying about your game through omission of maybe the most important tag.

its a PvPvE game. just bc it doesnt mention something doesnt mean they are lying, the just didnt include it. had you watched any of the trailers or screenshots, you wouldve seen players fighting. dude, its a game about pirates! pirates fight! anyway, hope uou enjoy the game.

  • @pteth the store literally has this in the description:

Whether you’re voyaging as a group or sailing solo, you’re bound to encounter other crews in this shared world adventure – but will they be friends or foes, and how will you respond?

it has had that since release

  • @riptide3683
the trailers do a really poor job of portaying PvP. They have 3 ships at an outpost throwing fireworks, 9 pirates emoting in front of loot and being friendly, ships passing by next to each other and waving, while actual PvP makes up for a total of 10 seconds in a 2 minute video. Rare just tries to portray the game as a friendly pirate adventure without emphasizing properly on the PvP aspect to lure players in. Even in the latest video about FoF, FotD they make it seem like it's something casual and easy. That being said people should read a review before buying a game...

  • @gosva5434 They have shown Naval combat, the actual CQC would require some kind of cinematic approach of a Mexican Standoff or similar as the real PVP is bunny hopping all over the place

  • @zig-zag-ltu
yeah and that naval combat lasts 10 seconds, Events are showed to be uncontested and whenever we see 2 pirates together they emote to each other. From the trailers the game actually seems like a friendly PvE adventure.

  • @gosva5434 I know what you mean, I think they should certainly add more PVP related trailers, but this wouldn't stop people who complain about PVP.

  • @zig-zag-ltu
propably but at least more people joining the game would expect it at least. I am honestly tired of seeing every other day posts about PvE servers or people calling anything related to PvP toxic.

  • @gosva5434 I don't think a lot of new players ever complained about general ship v ship PVP. They would complain as they would go to Old Faithful to dig up chests, then sail to Thieves Haven for riddles(as examples) and then someone would come to them and sink them. The beauty of the game combined with size of those islands and difficulty to navigate when you are new, would completely overwhelm them and they wouldn't see a ship approaching. So in their mind those 3 hours that they have spent and the loot they have gathered is theirs and nobody else's.

I gotta admit, the game design could be better when it comes to rewards vs difficulty of obtaining them. Those big island voyages should be late game content for maximum profit (way better than now) and small easy to navigate islands would be where new players dwell more often. I think this would help the situation.

  • I agree that PvP should be listed in the description. However, Sea of Thieves is not a PvP game and shouldn't be advertised as such.

It's PvPvE. It's a sandbox where players are free to play however they want. Making players think they NEED to do PvP would just be false advertising.

  • @riftenwatcher Agreed. Also streamers doing pvp 24/7 did not help with the evolution of the adventure.

P.S. I don't use MS to purchase games. But here are the tags on Steam:

    Adventure
    Multiplayer
    Open World
    Pirates

Here are the user -defined tags:

    Adventure
    Multiplayer
    Open World
    Pirates
    Co-op
    Online Co-Op
    Action
    PvP
    Sailing
    First-Person
    Exploration
    Naval
    Funny
    PvE
    Massively Multiplayer
    Atmospheric
    FPS
    Swordplay
    Great Soundtrack
    Singleplayer

So it's not like its missing exactly. But those 4 core ones, is the vision of the developers and everything that comes with it.

  • When you read this in the store:

Whether you’re voyaging as a group or sailing solo, you’re bound to encounter other crews in this shared world adventure – but will they be friends or foes, and how will you respond?

How did you interpret that? Or did you not read it?

In everyone's defense, the PvP that is advertised in Rare's marketing is virtually nothing like what actually happens in PvP encounters. They advertise more "role play" PvP where as the actual PvP you get in adventure is quite often more intense and is most typically imbalanced from a crew-size perspective.

The first four are also user-defined tags:

As for the OP, on https://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/sea-of-thieves
    it says

    Game details
A shared-world adventure game that lets you be the pirate you’ve always dreamed of in a world of danger and discovery. Explore a vast ocean where any sail on the horizon could mean a ship filled with real players who may be friends or foes. Form a crew and voyage to treasure-filled islands, face legendary creatures and test your mettle in epic ship battles against other pirates.

    And

    Intense action
Engage in intense ship-to-ship battles against other players or fearsome ships of the undead. Raid skeleton forts for untold loot. Take on fearsome creatures of the deep. Battle with skeleton lords.

They might want to update it though as it continues with ...

Or test your crew against other pirates in The Arena, Sea of Thieves’ standalone competitive game mode.

  • @lem0n-curry Oh my bad, but then it's settled. It is announced as a PVP game.

I obviously did not read it properly as I never used them in 14 years ^^

P.S. The arena bit should be edited out tho ^^
